I just stumbled across this older video. Your videos make me consider getting a FJR... I'm a Honda man and ride a very early (1990) ST 1100 daily (except when there is ice on the roads). I simply love this bike. Yet it feels more like a car than a bike. In most of the FJR reviews I read that it has a more sporty character. Yet especially ex ST riders do mention the higher centre of gravity. How to experience this? I got myself a 1 owner, very low mileage XJ 900S Diversion. A bike Yamaha primarily created for the European market. In line 4, only top fairing. I like the engine, it is so much more a motorcycle engine than the ST's V4. I like the simplicity: naked, air cooled. I'm a relatively old guy and this is how bikes used to be. I dislike indeed the high centre of gravity. It has a 22 liter fuel tank and you notice the difference when it is full. No such thing on the ST... It is early days for my Yamaha so the jury is still out. Thank you for your excellent videos!

does everyone agree with the 8000 mile change stated in the manual? (2015). Thanks for the video, was dreading it and got it done, hands tired from pulling the caps off and all the fasteners. The old plugs not bad at 8k miles but the new did look much better. I think one reason for the 8k change is not letting plugs sit in there too long, they may never come out again.

Don't know, but I pretty much keep my RPMs at or below 50% max so I can't imagine my plugs are worn out at 8K. I changed at 15K and again at 30K. Fuel economy still good, no running issues.

Been putting off tinkering with my bike due to missing or tired old tools. Thanks, got new enthusiasm to bo update my toool box and get stuck in ;-) I reckon the slow idle on warm start up is due to either throttle sync or plugs, can't wait to find out. (31,000 miles)

Bryan, Your mechanical maintenance instruction videos are excellent. Were you ever a teacher by trade? You make the business of maintenance clear and motivational by encouraging the average person with limited mechanical experience that it can be accomplished. I will be changing spark plugs and a throttle body sync on my FJR1300ES on Monday. I believe i can do it but just in case I have a mechanical engineer friend with an FJR to support me when i do the job. :)

Like the video thanks. I have to change my plugs this weekend its finally running a little "ratty". never changed the plugs yet in this bike 07' FJR 136,500 miles. The bike has been ridden hard and only required tires (8K-12K), brake pads (3K-4K), oil change 10K it took that long to get dirty, timing chain tensioner upgrade. and Fork seals I used to have a wheelie problem.. :-) ...

Good point, my 2014 has 31,000 miles on the clock. A lot of people are precious about things like changing plugs, the bike runs fine, maybe a little slow idle when started from warm tho!

Thanks for the video. All of these are extremely helpful. Only problem I got was that my spark plug socket getting stuck (disconnected from extension) in the chamber on #1 plug. Maybe my socket is on the fatter side but it is a pretty close tolerance and it takes a little bit of force to get in/out. Took me close to an hour to get it out. I then taped the socket to my extension and the remaining 3 were a breeze.
@TwoWheelObsession

That's certainly not normal, yep try a better socket.

@jontroiano415

Wedge a piece of paper or electrical tape in between the socket and extension. This also can be used when you have to put a bolt or nut in that you can't start with your hand. usually the paper works better and then just falls away afterwards. They do make special extensions that lock on sockets. Waste of money for a home enthusiast.

Well I changed the plugs on my Gen 1 (03) and it took me over two hours from start to finish. One of the rubber lugs on #4 spark plug boot broke off :( . I don't think they had ever been changed and it has done 40,000 km (10,000 mine)...Just slow and steady and plenty of patience (and spare leads from the wreckers incase). The plugs 3 dark brown and #4 was sooty black :(

Is syncing the throttle bodies a regular thing that needs to be done? What are the symptoms implying it’s needed? I have a ‘05 and it runs great. Gonna do the plugs soon so was wondering how hard the syncing is.

So what is the gap for the plugs. Also why not anti seize it will make life easier the next time they get changed also less chance for corrosion.
@TwoWheelObsession

You can use it if you wish. I have never needed it but it can't hurt. Gap on an fjr is .7-.8mm

If you are using NGK plugs, they come from the factory with antiseize already applied (invisible). DO NOT apply additional antiseize.

My 2013 FJR is shuddering at low RPMs. I have tried the fuel injector cleaners and switching to 93 octane with no change. I am not able to find a reference on changing the fuel filter. 23K miles with original plugs. Hopefully you can help keep me from loading the parts cannon.
