Had some issues with my throttle not closing when I would shift and a little hesitation on some slow speed stop n go's where you don't actually put your feet down.... cleaned the air filter and lubed it and nothing. Replaced plugs with new HD factory recommended plugs and nothing. Finally took the air filter back off and back plate breather assembly, got a can of CRC Throttle Bottle Cleaner and went to town cleaning. Took me about 30 minutes to get all the carbon build-up off the TB intake area and clean the butterfly valve with a rag and old toothbrush. Then fired her up and gave her a good 15 to 20 blasts with some throttle. Shut her down. Put her back together AND I CANNOT BELIEVE what a DIFFERENCE it made. I swear it's a new bike (2015 Electra Glide Ultra Classic Low with 23,000 miles). CRC TB Cleaner is GOLD!!! :-)

@@TwoWheelRocco I believe he is running a K & N Air cleaner that requires cleaning ( spray can ) and flushed with water and let dry in the garage for 24 Hrs. Then you spray light coat of the red K & N oil that is supplied in the K & N cleaning kit that costs around $ 16.00. I have the K & N filters (life time) in my 2008 H-D Dyna and 2017 Triumph Bonneville 900.

Just a suggestion try to run it clean without the spray oil on it. See how you like it. Then spray the oil on and see how you like that. I believe blocking any of the air is restrictive. Thanks for posting! I just did this to deal with a P0507 code on my 2012 Dyna. Cleaned the oil fog out of my air filter housing with Denatured Alcohol, used CRC Mass Airflow Sensor cleaner on the MAF, throttle body, and IAC. Idle is back down to 1,000 RPM and runs great.

@@dononeill9701 - I've since sold the bike, but I took off the air cleaner assy completely and sprayed into the throttle body. In the end, I needed to bring it into the dealer. They adjusted some setscrew, locked in place w/loctite red, and reset the idle w/their computer. In the end, that was the actual fix. Best of luck-

I have a 2011 heritage the throttle feels a little gritty doesn’t snap back like I think it should ….i think I might get a can of this and make sure that butterfly is clean do you think it might be caused by some build up in the throttle body?

Rocco, i have a 2002 ultra classic, s&s 510 cams, adjustable pushrods, Arleness stage 1 air filter, s&s 2-1 sidewinder exhaust (race baffle). And a v&h fuelpak. Recently replaced ignition coil, screaming eagle plug wires, plugs. And about to replace Tps...cleaned the throttle body today. I have been having issues jerking/ cutting out and bogging down in all gears not as bad in 1st-3rd but highway is bad in 5th gear cuts out terribly. Any help? Its not as bad around town but it's all the similar symptoms to a bad tps.

I don't have an idling problem on my 2014 883 but i'm sure this needs to be done anyway. From time to time, the engine makes a sucking/vacuum sound at low rpm and higher gear (when I give throttle). So it has to be something with the TB. I opened my filter and there was oil.. so I drained her a bit. Dealer went crazy with oil probably (bought it from them). This video dates a little bit so i'm wondering if you will see my comment.. in case you do, please give me your advice :) Thanks for the explanations here.

Happy to help, Sportsters like the oil to be halfway on the dipstick. My first indication too much oil is the oil filter has oil on the bottom of it. I do not like to run any oil on my filter. Some K&N exactly filters people put oil on it. I find it to attract dirt and it just doesn't breathe right. Any questions just ask, Throttle body cleaner is a big plus you might need to do it once or twice clean air filter, halfway on the dipstick with oil. Minimize your oil problems. Hi Rocco, I’m in need of your advice. I have a 2013 Dyna superglide. It idle’s very rough and rpm’s are high. Followed by check engine light. Even as I get going the high rpm’s are still going & check engine light still on. A couple miles later, both disappear but later on, reappear and the same thing happens.

Happy to help. I would clean idle air control. Did you flash the code to see what that states? I will try to re-clean the IAC. Make sure you don't have oil on your filter. That will caused a lot of problems. lot of times we just have too much oil in the motor. I like halfway on the dipstick and a clean air filter no oil on it. Let us know how it works out. Hey Rocco, my Sportster winds out in every gear before it should. Example in 5th gear at 50 mph it has upto 5000 RPMs and sounds redlined.the bike will eventually go faster if you hold it there. Then maybe because of all the heat from redlining downshifting disappears and finding neutral is hard.

Happy to help. Tried to clean out your intake starting with the Filter and put a little additive in the tank for the injectors and see what you got. I noticed these bikes only like halfway on the oil dipstick or they get overloaded with oil that could cause a problem. Rule of thumb slide your fingers under the air filter box and if there's oil on your finger tip.. You're running too much oil in the motor clean your air filter and do not put oil on the filter. leave the filter dry. Let us know how that works out, Thank you for watching and all your support. I have a 2004 harley heritage softail after i cleaned and oiled my k&n filter ran good for abit then now i start it and it idles really high when its cold and when put in gear it bogs and stutters then goes then when it warms up its fine heard if theres to much oil on filter it gets on the sensors, going to try this but was told should clean the IAC when its cold

I have 2010 wide glide, and when I start it, it idles rough, if I dont rev it a little, it will stall, one time I rode it and the engine light came on after it cutoff a few times, I believe the codes were p0261 and p0263 and 1003, I looked it up and it said both front and rear injector circuit low, and relay, so I swapped out the relay the next day cleared the code and rode off, it seemed fine but cold starts fails to start as I stared above, and now I'll here a unusual sound in the tank when it re prime

The lower the gas levels the more air get into your Fuel injector system This is why you will see codes. You will need a new check valve. Hole in line from rubbing on the edge inside gas tank. @@TwoWheelRocco that bukebis a nightmare, went as far as loosening the torques bolts and gas started rushing out, the tank is fuel and putting the bib or dash back on for some reason was giving me trouble. I hope I dont get raped at the dealership, and I still owe on this bike and I feel as if everyone's enjoying their harleys more than I am

At the dealer it is a $325 job. It is a very common problems with Harleys. The fuel pump cover Is spring loaded, screw down evenly. Not a problem. Let us know how it all works out. Get it fixed and get out there. Any questions just ask.

Hey Rocco, I have a similar issue as Tim described. In my case its a 2012 Sportster XL Custom. It backfires from the throttle body. I will try to use some carb cleaner to check for leaks on the intake manifolds. Mine usually happens around 25-35 mph and when I give it gas, it goes away. I have a K&N air filter, Python Throwback exhaust and FP3. I think the FP3 tech tried to enrich it but it still didn’t help. Thanks as always for sharing your knowledge and help.

Sounds like a bad check valve hose in your tank. That is the weak point on these bikes. Open your fuel tank when tank is low on fuel and listen for air bubbles. Dirty air filter and too much oil in your motor. Look at your filter, is it oil stained. if so clean and set your oil level to a little move then 1/2 on your dip stick. and ride for 100 miles and recheck plugs and air filter. Let us know how that works out. Ride Safe and have a great day.

Tried doing this unfortunately no go for my prob. 08 xlc1200 with rpm’s fluctuating when clutch is engaged, it will reset if i come to a stop but after hitting the highway coming to a stop it’s going up and down? Not sure we’re to start any recommendations

I would take a look at your air filter being dirty with oil. Take a look at your oil level on your dipstick. Make sure it's no more than halfway full. Because this will cause problems like a dirty rich running system, Your air filter will get clogged up with oil. I like to run my air filters dry. Lots of people take the K&N and oil them up. I find it problematic. Clean air filter and halfway on the oil dipstick and your bike will run great. Let us know how it works out. Thank you for watching. Rocco, I greet you with pleasure. I want to ask you about a concern about my sportster custom 1200 year 2016 and 8500 miles and v&h slip ons. I recently cleaned the throttle body, air filter (k&n) and changed the engine oil. The motorcycle presents a semi rough acceleration, I maintain 1/4 to 1/2 throttle, approximately 40-45 mph and when going through rough or uneven asphalt the acceleration becomes a bit erratic and on some occasions there are explosions unrelated to combustion, the failure feels like when a carburetor is dirty or it begins to run out of gasoline. At the moment, I changed spark plugs, I adjusted the clutch and primary chain, what other verification or adjustment could I do to reduce said failure? I don't have remapping on it. I appreciate your collaboration.

Happy to help You will have to run some sort of map because of the slip on, exhaust and did you change the intake air filter? @@TwoWheelRocco Rocco, I tested using the original exhausts and the error persists. It occurs at 2000-2500 rpms, you feel that it is choking and a second later it reacts by giving short jerks accompanied by small explosions. What other test do you suggest?

With the year and the miles on the bike it should be problem free. With no codes flashing. I'm sorry I'm all out of any kind of suggestions at this point. Let us know when you do figure it out. Sounds like something stupid. How does your air filter look, is it all oily? If so, you have too much oil in the bike? Sportster's tend to like halfway on your oil dipstick. Your filter will be all oily and that causes a lot of problems. I like to run the filters dry. A lot of people suggest to put oil on themI like, KN that is. Run dry and see how it runs. That's why I'm suggesting take her for a ride without your air filter.

Happy to help. Backtrack Sportster's like copper core plugs nothing fancy. And see what was your problems is with your ignition.I hate those plugs. Never had any luck with them. Hi there. Quick question. I got a 01 heritage. I'm having problems with the bike not idling. Itll run fine for anywhere from a block to miles and then it will cut out for a split second, usually when accelerating, and after that it will no longer idle until I shut the bike down. I tried cleaning out this idle sensor with carb cleaner (didnt realize it wasnt good for the throttle body). Anyhow, it didnt seem to make a difference. Was wondering about your thoughts?

Mr. Rocco, my 2014 FLS, started up with no issues, but every time I slowed down and downshifted neutral to stop, the RPM would drop way low and the bike would die. Hit the start button and it would fire back up, I'd have to keep pressure on the throttle at all time to make it not stall .... There's no code shown....Any clue where to start to fix this? please...

I find you have to clean the AIC thoroughly. Times it takes a few times. That Is what controls your idle. there is dirt in that hole That meters the air. As you look into the throat of your fuel body you will see a small hole at the top spray and clean. Let us know how this works out. If you have any problems send me a cell number I will call. Ive got a 09 Sporty 1200 thats Idling wayyyyyy high. Got her to the next bar, shut her down, when I got going It idled fine again!!! I checked the throttle cable spring, seemed okay. Gonna do this and see if it fixes.. Might need a new sensor tho

Great video and I will do this this weekend. Rocco, recently I changed the fuel pump, pressure regulator and filter, on my Night Train 08 and today when accelerating in 3rd gear, I felt like bike was choking. Thank you for these videos! I just performed this operation on a 2017 883 sportster; turned out great. I am looking for some guidance on the Mass Air Flow sensor cleaning process ... I’ve read that sensor can trigger a false positive code on the o2 sensor. Is that the sensor that is plugged into the top air intake manifold? There isn’t much out there on this and saw Brian G’s post I am new to bikes, this is my first Harley. Any guidance is very much appreciated. Don O from Az

Happy to help. Warm up the bike make sure you keep your oil level, halfway on the dipstick. Check your air cleaner for oil residue. This is what happens when you have too much oil.CRC spray and clean just like the video shows, once a month whenever you feel it's a little sluggish. Keep air filter clean intake cleaned don't overfill the oil. And you'll have a lot of enjoyable miles Sportster's last forever. Thank you for watching and your sub Don. Happy to help. Yes do that a few times. Make sure your air filter is clean and doesn't have oil on it. These bikes like to have halfway on your dipstick oil level, halfway that's what they like. An easy way to tell is if you run your fingers under your air cleaner, and you see oil on your finger tips, there's too much oil in that motor, which will cause other problems. So I decided to take the bike to a Harley Davidson shop, to see what was the problem, and they told me that it was the goat leg sensor. It is crazy. I enjoyed trying to fix my bike by myself, but this problem it could be very complicated to do it with no idea of bikes. But thanks to your videos I am starting to understand a little bit. I would install a new battery. Remove old fuel and replace with new. Remove air cleaner and clean. Choke motor then spray some fuel into carb and try to start your sportster. Then see what you have as problems. You probably will have to clean carburetor then oil and filter service. Be careful not too over fill your oil on first start up, Your oil level will appear low because it sat so long and settle in the bottom of your motor. Start and let it cycle threw. @@intelin123 sounds like a fuel pump issue. You could have the pressure tested. from your fuel supply. did the fuel pump sound normal well pressured up? Remove gas cap and listen to the pump for air leaking.

I know if the motor is not running it tends to overload the system so with it started and you play with the throttle a little bit clean it shut it down and it would've brush clean it start it up. You can tell when it’s going to happen it idles low and decelerate pops a bit. Then eventually after you pull up a couple of times it stalls, I can’t make it do it but I know when it will do it. Tonight as an example I pulled over to see if it was going to stall as it was behaving like it was and then it stalled. But I started it ran good and then seemed to high idle a little and take a while to come back down

Sometimes will take take a few times to clean your idle air control sensor. Is your air filter dirty if it is, you have too much oil in the bike and that could add to this problem. Make sure it's halfway on the dipstick. Don't overfill the oil creates a dirty situation. If you could rub your finger under the air cleaner box and you get oil on your finger you're running too much oil in that bike and that causes a problem.@@benpaynter8348

Patience my friend it all work out clean Idle air control. Sometimes it takes a few times you could always just replace it with a new one. I replace one in my career. Sometimes it takes two or three times to clean it and run good gas.@@benpaynter8348

Just performed this cleaning on my 1200 nightster... plus fully cleaned air filter. I was getting a hesitant miss at 70 to 80 mph on motorway after a 350 mile ride in last 50 miles so hopefully it's this. Bar for bad fuel not sure what else it is

I just bought a 1997 Roadking with the Marreti marelli injection...the warmup idle idles normally about a minute or 2 then revs down to a good lower idle with a 2 into aftermarket exhaust but after a five minute ride up the road, I then shut down the engine, heads feel nice and warm....., when restarted within a couple minutes from stopped it seems to high idle all over again for 20 to 30 seconds......is this normal for these injections? Do they need longer rides to get the warmup idle to let it go lower? Are there adjustments to remedy?

Sportsters are notorious for the intake boot you can do it the ghetto way and I thank you spray something around the intake where it meets the cylinder and the idle will go up or it'll kill the engine I think it's propane

So your worried about damaging the coating but use a brush that is had a metal handle or atleast collar holding the bristles and can clearly hear it scraping around why you use it. That seems pointless to worry about a coating then.

You don't take a tiny paint brush and clean out the throttle body that's just smearing the dirt around inside , you need to take a clean shop rag and wipe out the dirt and fluid from the throttle body, don't use a brush like this guy.
