From oil and spark plug changes to carb cleaning to petcock replacement to brakes to ALL things VTX, ROCCO IS THE MAN. Can’t even speak to how much time/money his videos have saved me and how much he’s helped keep me keep riding. Bought a VTX 1300R used and in need of some TLC, couldn’t have brought it back to life without his help. Thanks Rocco

Hi Rocco. Thanks for the video. One thing I decided to do is put a thin layer of brake grease on the pin. I just figured it would help to facilitate removing it and maybe protect it a bit from the elements. But really thin.

Hi Rocco, do you have any video for show where the retainer clip on 2005 VTX 1300s caliper go? Also if you can show or direct me to where the correct placement of the anti rattle clips on the front caliper, thanks your videos are great. Both of those parts mentioned came out in the process of a tire change and brake pad replacement front and rear.

Hi Rocco. Jeff Cranston here from TX with the 04 Honda VTX 1300c. We talked years ago about my carburetor work and such and you were extremely helpful. It's been running great for many years. I'm having and issue with starting this year and suddenly, I have 99% no rear brakes, yet the pads look ok and I changed them around 5 years ago. The pads look like they are almost or are touching the disc. I assume there should be some pad gap and hitting the foot pedal makes it pinch. I pushed the foot pedal with a deck broom so I could look at the pads/brakes and I don't see any movement at all. The other issue is, with newer battery, checked cable tightness, cleaned switches near throttle, I am getting intermittent starting issues. Today, I went to start it and it started right up. Then I drove about 15 miles and stopped for gas. When I tried to start, I just got the "ug" sound for a second and then nothing. Took about 6 pushes and then it turned over fully and started.

Be very careful the start switch is all dirty. There will be a little ball bearing in that switch so when you take it apart, be conscious that it will fall to the floor and you will lose it, but you need to clean that switch up with some electrical cleaner first I will try to just get the electrical cleaner and spray the switch and see if that works. Let us know how that works out as for your Brake Pads put new pads in. Ride safe and have a great day. Like I said, taking me to the park could be a little tricky with that little ball bearing in the 1300s bad design you lose that ball you're done. Hope this helps let us know.
@Jeff-Cranston
@Jeff-Cranston 6 ай бұрын
@@TwoWheelRocco I mentioned that I did clean the switches (as I have in the past). No issues doing that. I use a high grit sandpaper piece to gentlely make a few passes until it is clean fully. And I add a little conductive anti oxidant thinly on the surface. Done this kind of thing for many years. So I think it's fair to say it's not the switch or the battery connections. The voltage levels measured at both off and idle seem to be where they should be. The battery fairly new and kept trickle charged in the winter. The last similar battery I had lasted about 8 years. So now I'm thinking I need to analyze the starter itself with a bypass heavy duty jumper to exclude it vs the starter relay. I also plan to take it to Autozone where they can put their battery tester on it to verify it's health, as an exclusion.

Update: I used a heavy duty jumper across starter relay contact (with key on) and the bike started right up 3 times. Which to me means more likely the relay is issue.

Great source of info Rocco, thank you! In reference to a comment made earlier, do you recommend removing the caliper in order to use steel wool on the pistons, or is a blast of compressed air and a good squirt of brake cleaner sufficient to clean the pistons without removing the caliper? Thanks!

Gday Rocco, this question is a little off subject but I value your opinion, I’m thinking of getting a stage 2 kit for my 2015 road king 103, will it shorten the life of the motor due to increased temperatures, and would you recommend it, I’m after a bit more torque, cheers 👍

ROCCO , even though i had compressed my rear piston all the way in , it seemed not enough room for new pads and all the metal shields on brake pads , i had to skip one of the thin white shields to get it back together , do you see a problem with that ?

Hello Rocco hope you’re doing good, in a VTX 1300 , the lower flange bolt of the rear caliper broke, the same bolt you removed when the outer brake pad was stuck , i couldn’t find the exact same bolt but i found a bolt with the same thread size and same length but all the bolt is threaded not like the original one half threaded and half smoothed , so my question could I install it or it will not be right to install it knowing that i ordered the oem bolt but i takes about month to be delivered to Egypt, thank you in advance

Happy to help. Can you spin the rear wheel? If you hit your rear brake pedal it stops when you release the pedal does the rear wheel move forward. Yes, they do get hot to the touch of your hand quickly, so you're probably all right. How many miles since you changed your tires and brakes? If those brakes were not installed properly your rotor would be turning blue and you would smell it that's how hot it would get. If in doubt, take it apart and reinstall and inspect that's what I would do if in question. Thank you for watching and your sub Tucker Dave.. Let us know how this works out.
