For our cell service, we usually buy sim cards in each country. Some people use e-sims, but we found it too expensive. And yes, what an impressive cathedral!!

Yeah, the traffic can definitely get Gnarly but at least the city is designed in a manner to deal with it (for the most part). Thanks for watching as always! 🍻

Hi guys. I’m going back over your vids as we land back in Puerto Varas Chile next week for our Part 2. Cold and wet south of Santiago so looking at your routes up north. The roads and routes all look very tempting. Not so much the city traffic. Meanwhile, what’s the “Three Sheets”?

OMG. I took the ferry from Uruguay to B.A. in 1976 and got snared in the immigration in Uruguay but Customs on-board confusion. Spent an anxious hour detained in B.A.before it got worked out.

What were you smuggling in??? 🤣 Damn, I would have loved to have seen Buenos Aires back in 1976... that was the heyday!! How much time did you spend there? What was it like?????
@amygregfrancisco4372
@amygregfrancisco4372 Жыл бұрын
I was going to school in Uruguay at the time and a friend of a friend invited me to come visit her in B.A. for a week. I got confused and didn't understand I had to clear immigration on the boat, during transit. So when I tried to disembark and they checked my passport, I lacked the stamp. What should have been a simple matter to resolve started to escalate and the next thing I knew my passport had been seized and I was stewing in a detention cell, scared as hell. Unbeknownst to me, and as implausible as it may sound, my hostess' father was a very high-ranking official with the B.A. State Police. I did not know that so when they asked me where I was staying, I just gave them a name, an address and a telephone number, and said “This is my host. No, I've never met him and know nothing about him” It took about an hour and I'd assume a few phone calls to verify my story. How was B.A. In the mid-70's? Tense. Very tense. The Dirty War was hitting its full stride. This was before your time in Chile and I don't know how much those who lived through it have told you. It was tense in Chile, too Military patrols were ever present and there were sandbag redoubts w/ 50 cal machine guns on many corners, particularly around banks and government buildings. And people were disappearing-up to 30,000 by some estimates before it was over. Socialists, trade-union organizers, and student activists were in the cross-hair. The party went on, albeit with a midnight curfew, but there was definitely an undercurrent of tension. One plus (?) for me though was that due to my being a guest of this family we had a security detail with us whenever we left the apartment. I asked if that was necessary and my host told me, “Oh, don't worry, the chances of anything happening......mmmya, one in ten.” And then he laughed, so I dunno. Looking back, I think the reason things escalated at the gangway was in fact due to the Dirty War. I was a student, my luggage was a ruck sack, and gasp, my hair was long & I sported a full beard. In other words, I fit a profile. Then I tell them I'm here to pay a visit to someone who turns out to be a high ranking police official who I have never met and claim to know nothing about. Enough red flags there to warrant further investigation Really enjoy your videos. Keep on posting

Now that's a story!!!! I know it may not always be fun when you're stuck in the middle of it, but those are the times you remember most, and the stories you tell most often! No one ever remembers the trips that go according to plan! I've been regaled with plenty of stories of life in Chile during the Pinochet era, but mistakenly thought that the Dirty War in Argentina was in the early 80s... I remember you mentioning that you were going to school in Uruguay during the rugby team plane crash...

I was a high school foreign exchange student '72-'73. Went back for another 14 months '75-76 ostensibly to attend University but ended up deciding it would be more fun to make a circuit of the continent by bus and by thumb. I had a front row seat for the Dirty War. Made me really appreciate our American democracy.

Argentina is like Death Race on the roads lol That was a amazing town. The whole underground cash exchange is just crazy but makes it feel way more exciting. Pretty sure I could spend the entire day in that cemetery.

You could easily spend a couple days in that cemetery - especially if as, as someone suggested, you reenact the Easy Rider scene and drop a few tabs!! 😳

you've had the same shirt on for the past 3 episodes. 😁😁 I thought I was bad. but staying in a south florida home in the A/C 24/7 does not require to change much of anything. I am guessing you need proof of ownership of the bike and insurance. What else is there? Not that I am going out of the usa with my 94 honda goldwing 1500 🤣 It's only a highway adventure bike.

Ha ha... I own other shirts, I swear!! 😅 I don't have much room for clothes with all of Rose's snow globes... All you need is a passport, the title for the bike, and a little bit of gas money!! 💪

@@TwoWheelsThreeSheets at around 40 mpg with 2 carbs and no fuel injection, that would be alot. My old bum can't handle long distance riding anymore. I have no idea how your wife sits on the back like that all the time and so many times just sits there when you stop to do something. She must be a real hard case to sit like that. Or in the long distance bike riders, Iron butt they call them. You forgot insurance too for the bike. So, 3 things. thanks. Now I can sleep at night. 🥰
