The thing that made me commit to ECOs was that they don't dry out over reasonable time frames. I live in a low-humidity, mile-high environment, and I can keep the ECO inked-up for well over six months and have it still be fresh and able to write when the cap comes off. For me, that was such a killer feature that I now own seven all ready to write at a whim. That they write well is a nifty bonus.

I love my TWSBI ECO. It's my favorite go to pen and I use it to write all the time! I got the clear demonstrator but I noticed that I have hairline cracks in the cap originating from the threading. I was disappointed to see these developing because the pen still writes and functions amazingly. As of yet, they have not formed on the barrel of the pen nor have they affected how the pen performs.

While I like the TWSBI ECO in general and other TWSBIs, I find that more than half of the ones I own blob too much. I have yet to nail down whether it is an ink problem or a pen problem. I have five of the ECOs, and right now all but two are in the box because they blob on first write. At some point I am going to figure out how to fix that because it really is annoying at least, and when it is in a journal or on a letter, it means clean up, or starting over.
@Gouletpens
@Gouletpens 4 жыл бұрын
There's a couple things to check in my experience. Definitely try a wide variety of inks, because that could play a part. Next, make sure the feed/nib are entirely set in the grip section properly. They sit at a certain orientation, so even a slight different could cause that ink flowing out. Third, make sure it's a full fill, as the air could be expanding in the barrel and forcing the ink down. This is a common issue with eyedropper pens, but does happen with piston pens from time to time. - Colin
@kg4giy
@kg4giy 4 жыл бұрын
@@Gouletpens Thanks for that Colin. I had tightened the nib and I always fill it full. The blobbing does seem to be pen by pen. I have not nailed down the ink issue. It seems to be a pen by pen issue, rather than a particular ink. For example, I use Elysium Blue. It blobs in one ECO, but not another. It is a hard nut to crack.

@pointeplusplus
@pointeplusplus Жыл бұрын
This is my first fountain pen and I’m in love with everything but the nib width. Even the EF is too thick for me =/ . I love the filling mechanism, how you can see the ink, and the way it feels in the hand, how secure the cap is to keep it from drying out, and at that price point my dream was to replace my colored pen set with a set of these (over time). I’m still trying to figure out if I can change up my ink to fix the problem (I only have pilot iroshizuku take-semi right now) but I do like the paper I have so I’d rather not change that up. I’m considering other options for a daily writer with blank ink, but I haven’t let go of the idea of having a set of these for colors. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for all of the great content!

I've been using the Pilot Vanishing Point (fine) for a few days, and I'm already in love with the nib performance, because of its smoothness with a slight touch of feedback, as well as the weighting and the shape of the pen. It feels as if it was made to fit perfectly in my hand. If I want to step up a bit further into more expensive fountain pens, which ones would you suggest to try out first?
@Gouletpens
@Gouletpens 4 жыл бұрын
The VP is kind of in its own league in terms of shape and style. The LAMY Dialog 3 is another retractable nib option with similar clip placement, could be an option! If you're liking the Pilot gold nib writing experience beyond the VP, the Custom 823 is a natural jump at just under $300, or Namiki as you get closer to $1000. - Colin
@AbdullahArRafi
@AbdullahArRafi 4 жыл бұрын
@@Gouletpens Thanks Colin, for such a great suggestion. I'm looking for something a bit more traditional looking than probably the retractable ones since I already have the VP as my workhorse. Will I get a similar writing experience with pens that are known as a bit toothy(Platinum 3776, Aurora Ipsilon or 88) or pens that are known to be smooth writers, like the Sailor Pro Gear or Lamy 2000? I'm also considering to get into the more expensive line(Let's say it's my grail line), where pens like Pilot Custom Urushi, Custom 845, MB149, Visconti Homo Sapiens, Platinum Izumo, Pelikan M1000, and Sailor King of Pens are. If I'm considering getting something in the similar price range of VP, which should I get first? And, which one should I buy from the grail line first?

i got two and neither of them wrote out of the box the broad eco-t has a splayed tine, I fixed that andthen it wasn't writing due to baby's bottom, it's always hard start and skip my eco has a baby's bottom too so it hard started but it's less severe, it's also VERY feedbacky which isn't what i like, the tipping is shaped really strange, it writes like a zoom nib, way thicker or smaller depending on my holding angle. the feeds also have a really restricted air channel, they write really wet at first and then choke up and dry up on rhodia or premium paper, my ECO mainly really works on cheap paper on with really wet iroshizuku inks they are sending me replacement nibs/feeds(and a barrel as taking the nib out to fix it cracked the barrel :|) so i'll see if i was unlucky :o i only had to pay for shipping. i otherwise really love these pens, I wish they had an option to choose an eco-t barrel with any of th colors, I really don't like the round barrels (pretty much a minority here!) and love the eco-t handles, round ones are small and angled weird and makes holding the pen really hard, the eco-t handles are the comfiest handles ever! tempted to find a broken eco-t and swap the caps and pistons to make them match xD
