So i was curious about why Idia is using the "shi" honorific bc id never heard it before. Its another way to say "san" but more unfamiliar. It seems that idia keeps so much to himself that he basically views cater, azul, malleus, etc as strangers. Though he has shared interactions with a handful of people in his stories...hmm

It's not really more "unfamiliar" but simply particularly old-fashioned and formal. In Idia's case, he's using it (and 拙者) because his speech is a combination of gg leet gamerspeak and M'Lady Big Words Formality which is as popular in JP net slang as it is in EN.
