TE could make a desktop mixer that's much larger, has balanced 1/4" inputs, nice analog EQs, and the effects from the OP-1, charge this price for it, and sell so many more. I understand that they're a sort of lifestyle brand first and foremost. Hell, I could do with one of the $700 radios or $1200 speakers when I buy my first italian villa. But who is this for? It seems like they've bypassed the consumer and started marketing directly to synthfluencers. Like, sure, it will probably look good under a ring light with a ton of pocket operators hooked up into it, but is anyone going to use it that way outside of an instagram post? Also, I'm sure that the design/components justify the price. I'm not claiming this is some cash grab. I just legitimately cannot imagine anyone with a use for this, lifestyle or otherwise. What's the pitch? You show up a party and everyone wants to play music off their ipod minis and you starting handing out plugs? Also, the hand in the ad page for this looks like the poster for a made for netflix stephen king adaptation about diabetes testing supplies. Like, seriously nightmare inducing photoshop work. (Edit. I am talking about an uncanny photoshop on their website. I thought that was clear)

Well you can send all six signals into a daw on your smartphone. So it is a mixer and audio interface. I think that is where the use becomes more clear. You can basically have an amazing studio in a small bag. Hook in a guitar, a couple portable synths, a microphone. Do a live set while simultaneously recording each part separately into a smartphone daw (or something bigger if you are into that sort of thing). A long lasting battery to boot.
@KINGJADEX2 жыл бұрын
@@lemonrain2741 I'd actually much rather it be 3 or 4 times the size, with more usable knobs, a power switch that won't easily flip with normal handling, MIDI ports and typical 1/4" ins/outs. Preferably bus-powered as well. Then it miiiiiiiight conceivably be possibly closer in value to what they're asking.
@lemonrain27412 жыл бұрын
@@KINGJADEX just curious, is this not bus powered? It has an internal battery. So I would assume you could also power it by usb. I think the 3.5 inputs make more sense for portable synths which might be what they were thinking, and of course allows it to be that much smaller and more portable. Hopefully this will inspire more fully portable mixers/interfaces from other companies. I have a Roland go mixerprox, which is fun and perfect for my ambitions. But I do think it is cool that TE is pushing the boundaries of portable and high quality. Not for everyone though.

@@matt-lang yeah, very different indeed, but comparable in the category of “cool musical devices released today by Sweedish makers.” in any case, smaller than the synktat and way cheaper than this thing is a Bastl Dude (and all other mini mixers). Only four channels? No stereo? Get two! Four! Six! Still cheaper and more interesting... And good luck to the buyers of this thing trying to sequence or control anything via MIDI with this tiny knobs, screen, and sliders. Really a beautiful gadget, but really poorly conceived.

This design is great, for the very specific niche that TE has designed it for. Currently, the knobs seem completely useless for any performance oriented mixing (for example using the EQ as a DJ would) since they are way too small. The price point is, considering the build materials and engineering, completely justifiable, but also the direct result of going for a design that is, arguably, about twice as small as it really needed to be...

For those complaining about the price, note that there is not another product like this on the market. The main selling point is the size. In this ultra-portable unit you get: * 6 stereo in (and a mix in) * 2 stereo out (3 if you count headphones) * audio interface built-in * battery inside with 8 hours life. * display * internal synths, sequencer, and fx. * ultra-durable design, metal chassis, etc. * T.E. behind it. You know they'll be making it better over time. It is possible to get all of this (and much, much more) at a lower price point using multiple independent devices. Can you get them to all to fit in the palm of your hand? No way. This is a premium/luxury product. It is a no-brainer at $1,200 for the right customer. If you find it too expensive, perhaps you are not the right customer? I don't say that to be elitist. I'm not the right customer. I don't need a pocket tool like this. I'm happy lugging four or five units around, gaining the additional flexibility. I will still have money left over for dinner. That said... This thing is amazing. If I had a good use for it, I'd insta-buy it.

You’re absolutely right. I don’t want to sound snobby, but I’m so sick of seeing every TE hardware Facebook group, Reddit page, etc. endlessly complaining about the price of their hardware. Everything is more expensive now, they can charge whatever they want, and nobody is under any obligation to buy it. If it does well, then the price was justified. If it doesn’t, it wasn’t. The end. I can’t imagine that any of the, say, Apple or Gucci or whatever fan groups are just a couple hundred people complaining about the prices.

I love all these “have you seen” comments pointing to other (admittedly awesome) products that are literally not the same thing. It’s about the sum of variables. It can be the most powerful mixer that resurrects your granny from the grave, but if it’s twice the size and doesn’t use trs 3.5mm, and doesn’t run for 8hrs on battery - guess what???? NOT THE Fing SAME. There are cheaper mass produced components that allow you to build that device at 3 times the size for 500$. I tried to make something similar to this with a raspberry pi a few years back. finding the miniaturized components that are quality enough to last is extremely difficult. Size makes a difference in this case.

@@Leo9ine whoooooooosh. Dude, I have the bastl (see what I did there?). I also have the Hart. Looked at a few others, and there is that new one from Mackie. None of those is even remotely this. Again, it’s all about the specific mix of variables creating the right feature set. This is just not gonna be for the peeps that want to play with stylos and volcas and altoid tin headphone amps and see it as a source of pride. The engineering going into this isn’t easy or it would have been done 20 times by now as companies realized the market trend towards portable gear. I mean… Just the cnc frame manufacturing process puts it over the cost of most of the ones we all know about. that doesn’t even get into the pots and slide mechanisms, etc that are all custom, per usual with TE. There are people that pay this much for a pair of headphones. Literally two speakers attached to a band and sitting on your head. only so many ways to make that shit and prices vary from $10 bucks up to frigging $10k. This has far more reason to be the price it is than nearly 90% of high end audio gear on the market, but here we are with the coupon clippers all mad about it, while simultaneously saying they can just go get the Bastl, etc… Enjoy what works for you.
