To everyone criticizing me because the video is "too long," or because I apparently repeated myself multiple times: How can you be so unappreciative? How can you criticize free information? I am trying to help the gun community by warning my brothers in arms of shitty companies that treat their customers poorly and don't stand by their products, trying to save YOU from having to endure what I have. So in return for my efforts of trying to help our community, you criticize me? You criticize the free information and my hard work and efforts trying to help? Maybe just bite your tongue and appreciate that I am trying to help everyone. The entitlement and egotism of the modern world just completely blows me away, ESPECIALLY because these people are supposed to be my brothers in arms. YES the video is long, YES I repeated myself several times. To those who have and will criticize this video: I'm so terribly sorry that this public service I did you was so insufferable to watch...

Well I am so glad you let us know how CCI handled this. Or should I say tried to get out of any responsibility for not only making really bad ammo in this case but also damaging your gun and putting you in a dangerous situation. I know I said it before but I am saying it again. I am grateful you didn't get Hurt. Well CCI has lost my business. I will no longer buy or use the ammo they make! Clearly they don't care about their customers safety or if they damage or destroy the gun firing their ammunition. They need to have better quality control. Thank you again! Others may see it differently than me but by posting these videos you may have saved a life or a serious injury. I am grateful to you.

Good video, good analysis of what happened. I can say I learned something. Had the CCI people been smart they would have taken care of you and replaced the entire firearm as a matter of good customer relations in my opinion. Sadly, many companies prefer to "bury their mistakes" until they are sued.

This is a good lesson for checking your barrel every time you have a misfire. I had a similar situation with some homemade 9 mm reloads. Coincidentally it was also a Taurus pistol, a G2C. I think I accidentally miss loaded a round when I was reloading and didn’t put any powder in one of my rounds. I pulled the trigger and it went click. The primer went off and pushed the bullet into the barrel. I manually ejected the casing but the next round would not go all the way into the chamber. That was a lucky break for me because I didn’t realize the other bullet was lodged in the barrel of the gun. Had it gone another quarter of an inch, the next round would have chambered and I would’ve sent the next round right behind the stuck round. Not sure how lucky I would have been when I pulled the trigger but I’m glad I didn’t have to find out. I’m not blaming anyone but myself for that incident. It was a total lack of focus on my part while reloading. But a very important lesson for being totally aware of everything around you when you are shooting. If something sounds off, the report, the recoil, or anything else, you should stop what you are doing an examine the firearm. It could save a very serious injury.

Did you not say that CCI was sold to another company or did I misheard. If in fact they were then I wonder why it is that when someone buys a successful company they tend to run it into the ground apparently for short term profit which I think is stupid. Long term brand loyalty is so much more profitable and dependable. At any rate I guess I'll have to drop my Stingers in favor of Yellow Jackets. Hope the squirrels and rabbits don't notice.

When the gun goes CLICK! you need to stop firing, to keep the gun pointing downrange for at least 30 seconds, and then to pull carefully the slide back. If you see the casing is still in the chamber it may have been a hangfire. This can happen quite often with rimfire ammunition. Then, when the casing is extracted and you see that the bullet is missing, anyone who has any sense would check and see if there is a bullet lodged in the barrel. This is the procedure spelled out in all the gun safety textbooks used for hunter safety and concealed carry courses. I am sorry, my friend, but it's you who screwed up. When the gun went CLICK! you should have followed the correct procedure. BTW I was a gun safety and hunter safety instructor in Montana and Alaska, and was an NRA-certified rifle instructor.

I’m afraid I have to agree with the instructor. Last year I had bought 500 rounds on the Internet after being told they were run off an industrial reloading machine. Out of the first two boxes I had seven rounds that gave a funny pop and the case stove piped in the gun. This happened because there was not enough gunpowder to fully cycle the slide and it left the bullet halfway down the barrel. After each malfunction I was smart enough to check the barrel and find the lodge bullet. The rest of the ammo was pulled down and reused as parts. I kept shooting in order to see how many malfunctions I would have in a box but I was very cautious when I did not hear the bullet impact the target.

@@billmiller6274 The advice is spot on. If you can't rapid fire safely, then stop rapid firing. Don't ignore safety just because it's inconvenient for your enjoyment. I'm disappointed with all the people turning this shooter into a hero for getting CCI to settle his beef. CCI has all the legal warnings on the box explaining misfires can happen and how to handle them. This shooter choose to ignore those steps and created an accident. CCI knows even when they would win a lawsuit in an objective civil court, they've already lost the case in the court of KZbin opinions. Sad day in America when people have lost the ability to think critically and take responsibility for their poor decisions.

Ammunition manufacturers are dealing with potentially deadly products, even on the range with training ammo etc, they should investigate to the fullest extent when dealing with obstructions and exploding cases. Even if the CCI rep didn't get a direct video link, he should be taking information, any information, and being much more thorough than he was. Technically you're supposed to wait 30 seconds before doing that, too. Actually 10 minutes to strip the weapon. Slow cooks are more common than squibs in my experience, especially with off the shelf ammo, even more especially with rimfire. We all know that's the rule, but have you ever seen anyone wait? Do you wait? Since you didn't mention it with your advice here, I'm guessing not. I haven't, and I've been an instructor for years and have been around more than 100 instructors - never seen anyone do this. It's easy to know exactly what he should do after the fact, but we should probably give him a break because he did what 99.9999% of everyone does, yourself included probably. If he had field stripped and checked the bore, a delayed cook could have caused serious injuries or death. Replace one rare circumstance with another rare circumstance and your KZbin advice just killed someone. It was a fluke, so let's all step off our soapboxes for a few. :)

I get what you're saying, but even with ideal conditions (>72f, >10% humidity, >21% O²) rimfire ammunition ages and goes bad, mostly due to the primer composition (hehehe actually decomposition!). Do like grocery stores do with stock rotation if you aren't already. Shoot your oldest ammo first, your new ammo should go to the back of the line. Not a bad bet to do this with all ammo, but especially rimfire.

He may have missed the part about the barrel rifling issue, but it was good of them to replace it no questions asked when CCI just wanted to call me a liar. Yes the TX22's were initially released with bad barrels, but my squib load was 100% CCI ammo and not the gun. The return time was partially due to the barrels being on back order due to how many were faulty, and also due to the fact that they (Taurus) were mid move from one state to another. That being said, I am pretty disheartened (that's putting it nicely) that they didn't issue a recall about the barrel rifling since there were thousands. Then later my slide broke and now that's a common issue, so there's that too. But my Taurus G2 and G3 run flawless for what it's worth...

You have done all shooters a good turn by persevering with this. A box of ammo with multiple mis-loaded rounds means quality control failure at the factory, bad machine maintenance and inspection. This points to change of management practices, and guess what? CCI are now owned by Federal. So in a nutshell, some penny-pinching corporate suit was nearly responsible for a very nasty accident, and you were saved by a strong barrel in the Taurus. Lots of lessons learned, but not by CCI, apparently.

I think CCI might be right in this case. The first (non gnarly) shell casing showed I OoB, right? So the gas escapes the wrong way, you get a squib. Makes sense, except that you never heard the 4th bang, right? The fourth bang would be simultaneous with the 3rd. I'm sure we've all had slam fires, and unless you're talking rotating lug bolt design or some sort of delayed roller system, its impossible to distinguish between the two pops. Hell, even with delayed actions it's still almost imperceptible usually. And with super hot ammo, that ejector can turn into an ad hoc firing pin. Let's not forget this is exactly how John Norrell builds full auto 10/22s. Once that squib was in the barrel, the rest was pretty much inevitable. Everyone wants to do the hindsight 20/20 thing, but funny enough no one accounts for slow cooks and while preaching that in this rare circumstance you should have field stripped your weapon....none of them talk about the 10 minute or 30 second wait. So if this was a slow cook vs squib, their advice would kill you. I think maybe everyone needs to keep the preaching to church and give this guy a break. It was a freak circumstance, but it was most likely caused by the gun/ammo combo. I'm not the smartest guy on KZbin, though - so if someone knows something I'm not considering, share please.
@BuckeyeBallistics
@BuckeyeBallistics 4 жыл бұрын
I could be wrong, but personally I think the first shell that blew the bottom out just a little (not the one that completely exploded) was due to a squib load also. Squibs cause a buildup of pressure if another round is fired behind it, and this can blow out the bottom/rim of the shell. I think it was just much further down the barrel, at the very tip, so it wasn't as explosive as the one that got stuck and caused the explosion at the end that damaged the gun. Just my opinion, could be wrong. Another reason I lean torwards this is because the gun only had a few mags through it when this occured, so I doubt very seriously that there was already enough carbon buildup to not let the shell go into full battery. And also, if one wants to claim I may have "outran" the gun and caused it to fire out of battery, then they should watch my "tx22 full auto" video where I bump fired it very rapidly several times without any issues. So obviously I cannot outrun the gun. Thank you for the support on all your comments and for watching the videos.

Over the past several years periodically I have had CCI 22LR ammo not chamber in my Smith & Wesson model 34 22LR revolver. It barely fit in the cylinder even though I cleaned it. This does NOT happen every lot of CCI ammo. I know some know it all will tell me the cylinder has a tight chamber. OK so why is it that Remington, Federal, Winchester, S&K , all fight into the cylinder with ease? Never had a problem with any of those brands...ever.

I've had a TX-22 since January; it's been great, so far. I've only fired CCi Mini Mags & Std Velocity. However, notice how thin the barrels are on these, I would be very careful with any ammo with higher pressures than high velocity. I'm surprised that Taurus doesn't have a disclaimer on ammo type. You could never bulge a barrel on a Ruger MkII bull barrel. I'm with you 100%, no one would ever think a click is a squib. A dud is not a squib. Be glad that Taurus is taking care of you; in the past their CS was abysmal. BTW, my TX-22 is the the reversed color combo, i.e. Burnt Bronze slide over Black frame. It's not even shown on Taurus website.

I have seen those here. Sometimes manufacturers make custom color combos for the sellers know as "dealer exclusives." My 10/22 for example was a dealer exclusive, purple laminated stock. Came from Ruger that way, but you could only find it at certain retailers and it wasn't on Rugers website.

I used to use their primers exclusively, but their arrogance when their customer's call is astounding. Needless to say, when a company's customer service is that bad, I stop doing business with them regardless of how good some of their products are. I'm not surprised to hear that they won't do anything. Frankly, I'm surprised that they're willing to replace the ammo.

no critisizing But, you DID fire another shot, after the barrel was swelled..are you saying, you fired another round? and moved 3 bullets thru the bore??? I am a little confused here....my barrel did not swell when it (the SuperX winchester round) blew up in the chamber.....but the round before that one I fired, did the identical thing your round did, and I did NOT print on my target either..leaving me to think the bullet did NOT get stuck in the bore, but trickeled out the barrel and drop way short of the target paper...it did not eject the case, and when I mnually ejected the case, and chambered the next round, it blew the back of the case off and blew the PPKs extractor clean off my pistol..lol

Good set of videos that can be used as an educational tool in firearms training classes. My concern, over and above the obvious damage to the barrel, is whether other components of the pistol were compromised by the event. My advice is to contact Taurus with this concern or take the pistol to a qualified gunsmith once you receive the barrel for inspection. If nothing else you can have a little peace of mind.

I have watched all 3 video's now, and the whole time I'm watching them, I'm starring at a partial box of Stinger here near the computer. The reason its partial is because 11 rounds are in my new LCP 2, and 20 more in the my spare mags for said pistol. While the ammo was purchased recently, about 3 weeks ago, I don't know how long they were at the gun shop before I purchased them. Looks like its time to get out the old Remington single shot rifle and let the Stingers go ONE AT A TIME, and look into a different flavor of ammo for the LCP 2 while its here in the house.....

I would not use the Stingers in your (or any) pistol. They will be fine in the single shot. Many high-end barrel manufacturers caution you to NOT to use Stingers due to the slightly longer case length. There is the problem, the case is longer than normal, hence the higher powered round. In general, I find standard velocity to be more accurate and do not have any function issues even in pistols that specify "high velocity rounds only." In my experience, in the case of .22lr, more expensive, higher velocity rounds are a waste of money. Less accurate, louder and more expensive. Lately I have been using Federal 45 grain "suppressor" rounds, sub-sonic, 970 feet per second and they reliably feed in my Sig 1911-22 that is "High Velocity" only. The CCI 45 grain suppressor works just as well. At any rate, less seems to be more these days. Play safe :) Thanks.

So what responsibility do you , as the person firing the gun, accept in this matter? ANY anomaly or abnormality when firing that gun should have been investigated before continuing to shoot any further. Nit-pick between "off-sound" and "no sound" all you want, the fact is you knew something wasn't right and you blindly ignored it and continued firing. Anyone could pull a bullet from a casing, empty the powder, replace the bullet, load it into a gun, fire it while recording a video, totally ignore the squib round they created not functioning as usual, and then try to extort money from either the gun or ammunition manufacturer by telling them repeatedly " I have this on video." ITS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SAFELY OPERATE THAT GUN . You knew something wasn't right and like a happy dumb-ass you just kept right on going .

@Guns&Cars - Just came across your channel, NEW SUB btw. Used to be a big fan of CCI for 22, specifically the Stingers... but I won't be bothering to buy any more CCI from here forward just because of the fact that they should have taken care of you (their customer) asap and with respect. Glad to hear that Taurus at least took care of you, even if it is going to take a bit. Once you get the new barrel (which with all that's going on.. hopefully you will get it...) you should make a NEW TX22 REVIEW Video with NON-CCI ammo :-) Further, after seeing your video concerning this, for myself and all of those who have never had this happen to them.... From Here Forward, ANYTIME a shell doesn't "appear" to eject, I will be taking it apart to check and clear the barrel, to MAKE SURE it wasn't a squib load stuck in there. I'll also warn others I know of this as well. Thanks for the videos and all the information concerning all this!!

Thanks for subscribing. I like your video title idea lol, I just might have to do it if I remember whenever I get the barrel (still waiting). Yeah this was a learning experience for me too. Anytime anything seems odd or doesn't work right in the future, I will be checking. A good tip someone recommended was to keep a rod that fits down the barrel on hand. If anything is in question, you can just open the action and put the rod down the barrel until you can see it in the action. If it stops, then you know you got a problem. With this method you can check in about 2 seconds without taking the gun apart. I'm glad you liked the videos and found them informative- thanks again for subbing.

@@BuckeyeBallistics Yeah I was thinking about using a long barrel flag or even a heavy duty zip tie (as its plastic and won't damage anything), that could be used to quickly run down the barrel for checking also. 22lr ammo casings vary quite a bit in size. I have learned to actually remove the barrel and physically check that ammo will fall in and fall out of the chamber. Also, Stingers have a longer than normal casing and I know for a fact that I read that you should check to make sure your chamber is deep enough to accept these abnormally sized rounds. I do this before using Stingers or the new Federal Punch ammo as they both have a longer casing. I would be curious to see how easily these specific rounds would drop in and out of your chamber.

Just found this, so I will add my CCI stinger experience. Have used this ammo for ever with no issues, but, I had several hundred rounds that were approx. 7-8 years old. Had this because I stopped shooting .22 unless I had a stray snake here and there. Well I dug it out one day to shoot some in my rifle and my buckmark and about 1 or 2 out of 5 would not fire, no primer ignition. These were out of freshly cleaned firearms. I had some .22 ammo that belonged to my deceased father in law (Remington) that was at least 30 maybe 40 years old that I figured for sure had to be bad too. Every single round fired. I know a lot can happen in 8 years, but that experience has soured me on CCI.

@@deadonleprechaun I'm assuming that you have shot Velocitors before? Because they are a lot hotter than high velocity rounds by design, because they are 40 grains at 1400ish fps instead of 36-40 grains at 1200ish fps like most high velocity rounds. So if you are familiar with them and know this, then you are telling me you got even hotter than normal ones, which is definately a problem. Otherwise, yeah, they have more pop. You can post a picture on youtube under the "community" tab, if that's available to you. Back when they started it you had to have so many subs to be able to post with it, not sure about now. I normally dont reply to KZbin but in this case I make an exception. So seldom these day does a young man admit to their error, you did congratulations. I respect your honesty. We as shooters are responsible for our mistakes and as humans we make them. I have been shooting for 50plus years, yes I'm an old fart. I own over 50 firearms and have been reloading for 40 plus years. I have had 2 reloading failures both squibs I recognized both thankfully as both were high power rifles. I have also had 2 ND thankfully with no consequence as I followed the rules regarding muzzle control. My fault on all counts. I do believe the round was faulty and was manufactured without powder. . .22 ammo is made on automatic equipment at the rate of 100s of thousands an hour. We demand this as we want low price plinking ammo, I for one will be glad to not see .22 cost twice as much just to slow down production and add quality control. I bet I'm not alone. Bottom line with .22 if anything is unusual when shooting STOP and check. We will all pay for your new barrel in the cost of ammo. You did not have any problem with the BIB you caused the problem by replaceing the mag and loading the round and pulling the trigger. I have a range dowel in my bag to check my bores, you need to slow down and think or someday you will have a grenade in your hand. You say the gun just went click, well a click wont put a bullet half way down the barrel, pay attention you were at fault.

This sort of thing always happens when a company is sold to another. I’ve seen it happen to companies I’ve worked for. The hotshots come in and create “cost saving measures” to increase profits. Then they leave with big checks and big smiles while the company goes down hill and customers suffer. Almost seems like a long term plan to destroy America from the inside out.

I had to wrestle the deer down and kill it with my hunting knife. I had used new brass and had the bullet seated to engage the rifling so it had stuck when l attempted to eject the round. Later l had the same thing happen at the range and had two new cartridges, unfired cases with unfired CCI primers with firing pin dents in both of them. I sent one to CCI and kept the other one. CCI refused to take responsibility or admit any thing and, like you, pretty much blew me off. I still have the one brass with the dud primer in my shop and have avoided anything CCI ever since.

That sucks what happend brother. I love Taurus and their customer service. Sucks you have to wait that long, seeing as you already purchased the firearm, they should attend to you first even if it means taking a barrel out of another gun. Now, as far as cci, 1 their overpriced, 2 I've had some issues as well, and 3, after hearing and seeing what happend, I will never buy cci again. I will also let alot of my friends now ( who are avid shooters) exactly what shitty customer service they have. Hope you get your gun back soon brother

Thanks for the support man. Still waiting, but I expected to be waiting forever as indicated by my phone call with them. I'll post a video whenever the barrel finally gets here, probably summer if I had to guess. Also I'm probably transitioning to Aguila as a CCI replacement, since they wanted to do me like that. Sucks cause I still have many thousands of CCI rounds left, just about every type they offered, and was hoping for sponsorship one day after my 20 years of loyalty to them. Maybe Aguila will be happy to adopt me into their family instead...

Thank you for the update, yes, a little long, but, the right to have your rant was earned the hard way. A couple of takeaways from your situation for everyone: 1) always clear the weapon and check the already "SAFED" weapon after a misfire or even a perceived misfire. 2) any suspect ammunition should be weighed to check for more bad rounds. If you shoot, you should at least have a cheap scale that could tell the difference between good and light loads. CCI used to be the highest quality round on the market. Its a shame to hear something like this complaint about them. You hit on several issues that currently plague all businesses. The first issue, low quality standards, most likely due to some bean counter trying to maximize their profits. This issue is most likely what caused the base problem at CCI and Taurus. The second issue, seen again at both companies, they ignored the actual problem and looked for the cheapest way out. For CCI, that meant initially blaming you, until you explained you had evidence. For Taurus, that meant just burying your problem with their current headache. Sorry to hear about your issues, but, all of us can profit from your update. Thank you

I appreciate your time to share this pretty shitty experience. I gained great info no matter how you point the blame. I personally clean and lube to my standards all new firearms I acquire. I do wonder if your firing the gun straight out the box could somehow have assisted in leading to this chain of issues. Not saying it did just food for thought. I found several shavings and goop inside the last couple guns I prepped from new.

I had a primer only squib load, meaning only the primer went off, which was just enough propulsion to silently put the bullet 2/3rds of the way down the barrel. Then the next round slammed into it due to my failing to detect the squib. Obviously the condition or maintenance of the firearm will not affect this, as it was faulty ammunition. Just to clarify...

i think the taurus issue is related to the shoddy ammo. they don't want to argue or fight about it so they just replace the parts since they don't cost much, to them. they don't want involved in any legal battle with other companies, that will just cost them even more money and time. so they did the right thing and replaced the barrel free of charge. now i'm not gun smith so maybe i'm missing something but it seems like taurus did the right thing. IMHO

@@BuckeyeBallistics i think i caught that, i just assumed that they were just saying that so as not to say anything bad that could result in a law suit by the ammo company. seems odd that if you have a KNOWN defective part in a GUN, you wouldn't contact every person who owns one to correct it so as to avoid a huge legal problem that would cost large sums of money. after all one serious injury and.... but maybe i assume to much. seems odd that they would admit to have a defective barrel so nonchalantly.

@@frotobaggins7169 Maybe if you watched my video about it, it would make more sense, as I showed the issue. Some people found the issues before they fired a single round through the gun. Taurus wasn't making the barrel themselves, another company was. Once they found out about the defect, they switched suppliers- understandably so. And yes, they should have absolutely contacted everyone, put out a recall. The fact that they didn't is dirty business, so that's why I exposed them before I even talked to them, to warn owners and would be owners since Taurus was trying to sweep it under the rug. I assure you I wouldn't blindly mislead my audience about something like this; I did my research before ever speaking a word about it.

The shell of the stinger is longer than a regular long rifle. So by using it the shell on some guns with the extra length will jam inside the barrel and the shell can't expand when fired so the pressure comes back. A lot of manufacturer say not to use stingers in them. Its not the fault of the ammo if you choose to use extra lengty ammo like stinger. Some of my guns I can shoot stinger and other ones say not to use it.

@@BuckeyeBallistics ... because they're fine. Well.. they were fine, apparently. In a .22LR all a longer case will do against you is be that little extra that doesn't clear the chamber on extraction when you have a semiauto that short strokes due to design, dirt, or too much recoil spring. .22lr is a heeled bullet... the chamber is line bored all the way to the rifling because it's the same diameter as the bullet; as long as OAL doesn't stick the projectile into the rifling it'll headspace where it's supposed to, on the rim. Other guns just say "no" because the pressure's higher and they're marginal on timing.

As an owner of multiple Taurus firearms and someone that had always considered CCI as a quality ammo I really found your posts very helpful. I don't understand why the primer fire did not ignite the propellant unless it was bad ammo. I only use my Taurus pistols for fun because I consider it an off brand for quality anyway. Personal protection deserves the big bucks. So I'm disappointed in both products, but I'm very surprised by the CCI ammo issue. That said, I will offer that j have always advised against using Stingers in semi auto pistols because they have a slightly longer case than "normal" .22 caliber rounds. Thus, they at times jam on ejection. Regardless, great videos. Thanks.

Slam fire, ignition out of battery, lower chamber pressure, squib, looks like FTE, next round grenades when hits squib. Would be beneficial to show viewers, especially rookie shooters, the proper procedures for a malfunction. I personally use a zip tie to ensure my barrel is clear after I give it about 10 seconds waiting on a delayed round to go off (supposed to be 30 seconds, aiming downrange to reasonably ensure it wont fire after a delay), but it is vital that you're not firing in to an obstructed barrel. Be glad it was 22 caliber. Usually that is a mistake people make that puts them in the hospital. With 50 BMG a la Kentucky Ballistics, it can kill you to have an obstructed or malfunction in the barrel, defensive calibers aren't typically fatal, but they can take off fingers. 3 problems present. The round firing a primer, or whatever the exact failure was, and blocking the barrel, a pistol firing out of battery (an assumption made off the input from the CCI factory, which I have my doubts about that particular situation, having watched the first video), and failing to ensure the barrel was clear before firing another round, unfortunately, that one is on you. Pretty disappointed in CCI after hearing this, even if the customer isn't giving perfect input (video link etc) the customer service rep should take all the information they can get and investigate fully when it comes to malfunctions in firearms, if that had been a 9mm it would be a personal injury situation, not an irritated customer. Thanks for the input and the thorough recount of events. Glad you weren't injured, it could've been much worse than what it is. All the best.
