Making my TX22 Reliable. Break in, Polish, Dry Lube

I love my TX22. Very consistent and accurate UNLESS I use cheaper ammo. I put a laser on it and w/cheap ammo it shot everywhere but the bullseye. W/CCI I was shooting thru previous holes. Also, had issues when I pulled the loading tab too far down to load, but figured that out real quick.

I have had my tx22 for about 18 months and have never had a mis fire or failure to eject and so far shoots many brands of ammo with no problems. Now my glock 44 is a different story its very picky on ammo but I still like it , but my favorite 22 is the s&w 22 victory. Happy shooting everyone.

I was having problems with failure to feed from the Taurus clips. I tried a number fixes with no results. I finally bought two new mags from a company called Pro Mags. The new mags looked different from the mags supplied with the pistol. The new mags look to be much better quality and there have been no more ftf,s. I am very pleased with my Taurus TX .22 now. I wanted to share this fix with other TX .22 owners.

get an ultrasonic cleaner for your mags ! and other gun parts. use hot water and whatever Degreaser you want to use. Then sit back and watch the gunpowder melt off! Then I clean everything off after rinsing with compressed air then add gun lube

100% agree. I had the same issues from my newly purchased TX22 TORO. Cleaned the mags and it feeds perfectly now! Was regretting my purchase but now love it.

I'm 2:45 seconds in. I have a TX 22. Bulk ammo is hard to run. CCI standard velocity is a little pricey, but you'll never have any feed our fire issues and it stays clean. Cleanest most reliable shell in my TX 22. The most inaccurate is Federal automatch I think I already saw in your table. I've shot 20 or more brands and styles of ammo for it. Federal automatch groups like a shotgun on a 6 in. Target. All others from Eley competition to Herters bulk 36 gr CPHP. But, still the most accurate and the most reliable. CCI standard velocity. Plus it's so clean, shoot 100 rds and no carbon anywhere in the pistol besides the chamber a little. One pass with boresnake. Done. Reassemble and keep in shooting. Rails, trigger assembly all still carbon free. It's just the most accurate and reliable.

I’m just putting this out there I was shooting of hand at 75 yards and was extremely impressed with my tx 22 very impressed yes my sights where off I’ve ordered a replacement to try but mine is very very consistent for a pistol mine is also a recent one made in ga so that might have an effect

i also have one made in ga and i have none of the problems he is having and it shoots accurate for me at 60 ish yards, the only problem i have had with mine is after about 300 rounds the slide starting locking back every other shot. but i fixed this problem by taking it apart and on the part where it holds the trigger there is a spring that pushes the slide catch lever down, all i did was stretch the spring out a little bit and now its running flawlessly. i have nearly 1000 rounds through it now using cheap ammo and have had 0 malfunctions other than the one i just mentioned, which was an easy fix.

I've ran mine with over 800 rounds with 6 different brand ammo and only had one failure. Never done anything to it clean it after I shot it. Every video that I've watched on this Pistol had the same that I had. I can shoot this gun at 100 yards and hit it almost every time. Live this little pistol.

Only rounds iv had an issue feeding are the Federal punch, I think if I polish the feed ramp that would take care of the issue, there flat nose and very sticky wax is used on them..

The Ruger has a much longer site radius. Not fair. I shoot two inch glow dots at 25 yards pretty consistently. You might have the dreaded barrel chatter in the rifling. You would LOVE a competition upper.

I have a Tx22 competition model. It is stovepiping and has feed failures. I have 6 taurus magazines as there was a magazine giveaway when I purchased the gun. I will definitely try cleaning the mags and polishing the parts. Thanks!

I recently got the TX22 Competition SCR and had failure to eject, failure to feed, and stove pipes out of the box. I cleaned it but it didn't help. After watching some videos and a review left on Bass Pro shop website, I cleaned the mag (didn't use dry lube) and polished the ramp and it worked wonders. Search KZbin for "how to polish ramp TX22" and you'll find a good tutorial if you need. After that, I had two or three stove pipes out of around 150 rounds which was massive improvement. Still need to put some more rounds into it and will probably polish the other areas mentioned in this video, but it did wonders.

Your TX 22's result was identical to mine with the defective barrel. My early production model was made in Miami. Severe chattering in the barrel. Shots all over the place with a lot of key holing. Taurus immediately mailed me a new barrel. Now it's on par with my Ruger 22/45 bull barrel. Machine marks should be easily visible from the end of the barrel.

Also, accuracy with even cheap Winchester is very accurate. I shoot 1" up to a 2/12 in spinner. I have one set with 4 one inch, and the top resets to drop them back down. Then a dual ( 4 paddles) spinner with 1 in. at the top of each and a 2 1 and 2 1/2 in at the bottom. Finally I have a 3 spinner with 1" 1 1/2 then 2 in. At 10 meters and CCI standard velocity you can eat every one of those spinners alive. With aguila standard velocity, the same POA and POI as the CCI STANDARD but at about 3 -4 cents less a shot. But, what I'm trying to say is, if you want fun and unreal accuracy, try those standard velocity loadings. As for the sites. I first used Testors Sublime green model car paint and a tooth pick to put one small drop on the back 2 dots. And then a bright orange testors model paint similar to hunter orange for the front site post. Same thing one very small drop with the very tip of the toothpick. So it's a nice green on orange site picture. That will improve your groups a ton. But, ebay sells a knock off at of finger optic sites for 10$. Lol I'm not kidding, but buy extra filaments. They come in a 3 pack of orange,red, and green. So for both the sites and extra fiber optic rods, 20$ will cover it. But it has bee no rear adjustments besides right before you tighten down the rear site with loctite on the screw and on the oppsing sides of the site itself. It's milled aluminum front and rear and full. A full set btw. Anyway, good video. Than you

*RELIABLE* Out of box, shot 100 rounds using Remington Bucket O Bullets, Fed M21 (not a fan) and CCI Mini Mag. Had one failure to fire due to ammo. Reloaded round rotated, it fired. Enjoy shooting. Fast trigger, short reset & "assisted" reset, trigger drives out with enthusiasm. *ACCURATE?* My indoor range 15 yards max. Shot my Buckmark with Red/Green Dot for comparison. Buckmark tack driver 1". The Taurus TX22 iron (plastic) sight was accurate, but not as accurate as Buckmark. *HOWEVER SOME OR MOST OF THAT WAS ME.* I forgot my glasses. I need reading glasses. I adjusted the sight, was high and left out of box. One CCW turn elevation & one windage adjustment screws did trick. Rounds centered 5 inch pattern, with issue of eye focus without my glasses. *CONCLUSION* I agree it is not going to be as accurate as a Ruger MkIII or IV or Buckmark, fixed longer heavier barrel. As far as sights, I am going to look into fitting a RED DOT to the Taurus or buy the TaurusTX™ 22 Competition with fixed Red Dot. Bottom line, the light weight, ease of cleaning the TX22 is a winner, it will be my hiking, camping gun. The Ruger and Buckmarks are heavy but more accurate (especially for me with a Red Dot). You can get Ruger or Buckmark lightweight 4" barrels, aluminum, fluted, steel lined. Taurus does well overall, especially for price. The 16 rounds is really nice. Ease of cleaning, light weigh, ergonomics fit my hand perfectly and nice balance.

Mine work great out of the box with only two ammo related failures to fire in over a thousand rounds. No failures to feed, jams, failures to extract or stove pipes. Mine has been accurate, reliable and eats everything I feed it from day one. Sorry to hear that you experienced issues but glad you have gotten it working. Thanks for the video.

Same here ,my tx22 worked flawlessly right out of the box but I did clean it and polish the feed ramp first like I do with all new or used guns I buy. Later I added tandemkross 5rd mag extensions and thier green springs .

I have over 1k rds through my tx22 with no gun malfunctions ( I have a +5 baseplate that will sometimes have a ftf) I did however polish the rails and feedramp before I took it to the range. But I do that with all of my guns

The largest contributing factor to my gun's issues was the dirty mags. They were incredibly dirty and gritty from the factory. Once I cleaned them and put dry lube in them, my tx22 hasn't jammed once.

Only issue was with aftermarket mags (Promag). Factory mags no issue. Great gun, no other issues so far.

Thanks a ton for the tips! Dry lube on the magazines makes a big difference. I used Motul Shine & Go, since I had some around. The follower seemed to bind a bit, even after cleaning w/ CLP. Now it's nice and smooth. Hopefully it lasts a while!

Agreed! I use LPS 1 Greaseless lube in all my mags (TX, 9mm AR & AK) If they get any dirt or grit in them, I'll just blow them out with compressed air and they're good to go.

Mine was a dud out of the box too. Constant malfunctions starting from the first time shooting. Went back home and saw all of these issues and how to correct them. I'm hoping next time out with it, it does its job like all the other reviews claim it to do.

I saw a guy report barrel rifling mechine work was not consistent he sent the barrel back they sent him a replacement and again the rifling was not done right, another guy showed a heavy lead buildup Fowling in barrel and that was causing all kinds of accuracy problems .

I’m more concerned with the barrel cracking at the front from the spring. I’ve seen more videos about this issue than anything else. I have 102 rounds through mine and it’s concerning, but hey - can always send it back I guess.

Soon as the grooves get fowled theres no twist, it's like a smooth bore, bullets can't stabilize in flight they key hole flying side ways . My'n does the same thing, I even ordered a new barrel from Taurus and did the same thing. I'm going to order one from LakeLine marksman barrel . I saw a guy shoot 2" groups at 15 yards with a LakeLine marksman barrel

I must have been lucky, ive never had a single misfire or failure through my tx22. Although i cleaned and lubed it prior to shooting, as i do all my new guns. Ive shot a few hundred rounds at this point, mostly Remington gold and federal. The remingtons were old and the bullets were all loosey goosey seated in the cases but even with all that its NEVER misfed

The early versions had issues, especially with the barrels. They fixed it in the later versions and the new barrels were even marked with a Roman numeral II. I don't know you, but it seems like you know what you're doing. It should be obvious to you that there was a problem with your tx22 straight from the factory. If you're not interested in sending it back, I get it, I sent 1 firearm back before, I'll never do that again if there's any possible way to avoid it. Taurus may still be willing to send you one of the new barrels for free(assuming yours is from the problem batch), their customer service is actually pretty good, especially compared to others today. If not, you can get new factory barrels and there are even aftermarket barrels ( along with other mods) available now. Not a fan boy, and it's your gat, do whatever you want with it, but the performance you showed is significantly below average for what others are getting out of the tx22.

Oh wow.....thank u for this video! I absolutely loved my TX when I first got it but after a few hundred rounds thru all magazines I had for it, I couldn't even get 4 rounds off without failure to feed & that was super frustrating considering I even bought the mag extenders so it would hold 21 rounds in the magazines. After multiple cleanings & probably $60 in different types of lubricants for the magazines, with no luck, I was seriously getting ready to retire the TX22 & it would have been a shame because that's one of my favorite guns to shoot.👏🏻👍🏻😁

What it came down to was magazines that needed to be cleaned thoroughly & then lubed with the correct solution....which happened to be a car wax(Lucas slick wax) & ever since that.....ZERO feeding issue's. I even bought 2 more of the mag extenders so I have em on 6 of 8 magazines. Again.....with zero feeding issues

It's a shame manufacturers don't go the extra mile to do all of these things in the factory. I saw another KZbinr had the same problem with the magazine--rounds getting blocked by nosing-down into the front edge. He too did some cleaning of it (didn't lubricate) and that fixed it. But that was only one of his magazines. The other one worked fine.

Yep, every gun that's new to you(brand new or previously owned) needs to have an initial cleaning prior to your in intial firing. Will it blow up if you don't??? Probably not(used guns need to at least make sure there's no bore obstruction). Well why then?? For used guns, it's pretty obvious, you don't fully know their history, allows you to inspect and ensure function and safety. New guns, especially today when most manufacturers don't actually care about quality despite what they say, allows you to inspect and ensure function and safety so that obvious issues can be addressed prior to firing. Machining fluid is not the same as gun lube, it gummier(after sitting on something for months) and at best is more similar to a light coat of cosmoline. Also in the machining process, metal chips and other debris can get in and on the parts and significant burrs can be left behind. So you're gonna wanna clean all that out before pew pew. Is it the end of the world if you don't??? Probably not, but it's a good idea to help prevent problems before they start or keep existing problems from getting worse...

Get some of the TK +5 mag extensions. You have to remove the little loader button, but you use the same factory mags. A lot of fun.

I have seen 3 year old video's by MAC, Paul Harrell and HR Funk with the TX-22 and all 3 had issues with Federal. I have seen other video's including the one I saw before this where the guy shot 700 rounds with only 4 issues and he said it most likely in all 4 cases was the ammo and that did include Federal.

Nice report. Hope you got that barrel looked at and maybe replaced by Taurus. As others have noted here there were some early ones with heavy tooling marks and poor concentricity of rifling to bore. Also, the barrel lock into the frame leaves a little be desired. Accuracy is tough if the barrel can move relative to the sights. I made a little shim from a piece of aluminum flashing to fit where barrel sits on the frame. It has helped tighten up movement a bit. Not perfect, but better. It’s not a long range target gun but it is great for plinking and steels. It is a pistol, after all. I get good reliability out of the TX. Handles well. Lots of fun!

Great vid. One comment, though: Standing at 25 yards almost everyone is more accurate with a heavier pistol. So that part of the review was more of a test of your abilities than the firearms in question. I've shot competition for a number of years and I can still shoot far better with a heavier arm and from sandbags / rest than offhand. A shot a friend's TX22 and it was quite accurate (less than 2 inches at 25 yards) with CCI high velocity and sand bags. Thanks for your vid. Might buy one of these myself!

It wouldn't hurt if you do a light polish. What symptoms is your gun showing? Polishing the chamber generally aids more in extraction.

The ruger he was shooting had a longer Barrel. So how can he expect To get the same results from the Taurus. When the Taurus have a short Barrel.

There's more to accuracy than barrel length. However, yes, the Ruger has a slight advantage due to the longer sight radius. Trust me though, if I hacked off an inch from the Ruger's barrel, it would still outshoot the Taurus in every regard.

Cool vid. Looks like a good trainer gun but fixed barrel 22 is the way to go for reliability. Couple spots could have used Sound leveling here is the one that actually caused me to have to adjust volume 3:56. I used a program called Shotcut for the one video I have made, easy, free, and a sound adjustment like that is super simple. That Gun Golf idea you mentioned sounds amazing. Would love to see a game or two of that. Hole one should be a shot at a golf ball lol.

I think the biggest impact for me was cleaning and dry lubing the mags. The polishing helped run some of the softer shooting rounds.

@@22addict40 That's not what the woman at Taurus said. I tried using lithium grease, I think it was, and scrubbing the magazine with this wire brush and instead of jamming every round or two, it actually worked. Maybe good enough. I still hate it though, and don't trust it at all.

My tx22 has shot everything I have run in it with not one jam or failure to feed. Now my glock 44 22lr is another story, it's really picky on ammo but I still like it.

The guide rod is supposed to look like that. The flat part is how they get the spring into the guide rod. I just took mine out to the range to run 100 rds. Had FTEs and FTFs with Remington golden bullets. Took the pistol home, cleaned and lubed it thoroughly, and took apart the magazines to clean and lubricate as well. Will take out in a week or two to see if the issues went away.

I had a few jams using Golden Bullets, but ever since I thoroughly cleaned the gun and the mags, AND started using a better ammo (CCI Standard Velocity 40gr lead round nose).....it hasn't jammed once! I'm really sorry to comment 3 times but federal automatch may be fairly accurate in the other .22 pistol, but the TX 22 is not accurate at all with it. Shooting a quality round ( CCI, Aguila/dirtypowder but still accurate/Eley, SK, etc.) My TX (and yours) will shoot extremely accurately. Out to 50 yds at 4 in Paddles rapidly. I can shoot soda bottles at 50 n

Cci standard velocity is my favorite for an inexpensive target load. I've tried multiple different offerings from eley, wolf, cci,.etc., and none have posted acceptable accuracy in my TX22. I'm sure yours shoots straight, but I believe mine is suffering frome the barrel issues that plagued so many early guns. I really need to send mine in to fix the key hole and accuracy issues.

Great design, poor quality. Most of the problems with my TX22 were from the poly magazines. Out of four mags, one was a total dud. Another mag had a rusty spring out of the box. The only thing that seemed to help was coating the internal mag surfaces with dry lube.

Slug your barrel. Mine measured .2225. All my federal auto match bullets measure .220. I won't use that ammo anymore.

Mine never cycled properly, stovepiping constantly, and the slide broke in two pieces at around 500 rounds. Yes, I loaded the mags correctly, and did the mag tap. Sent it in to Taurus, but will most likely trade it on a reputable .22 pistol, when I get it back. I sure can't trust this pos around the ranch.

Just bought myself one for Christmas. Took it out to the cinder pit to fire it for the first time yesterday. I used Winchester .22 LR, 36 GR Plated Hollow Points. 13 stove pipes or failure to feed in the first 50 rounds. No, I didn't clean or lube it prior to the first fires. It seemed to be feeding better the next 20-25 rounds, and it was noticeably better if I didn't completely fill the 16 rd mags. I cleaned it today, and it didn't seem particularly dirty. When I take it out again next week, I will try the same as well as different ammo. At this point, I'm not particularly happy with it. It doesn't match the raves of the majority of reviews.

Did you not see that the TX22 is key holing even at 25 yards? That's why it's not as accurate. My shooting speed is not the main variable in this simple demonstration. Look up TX22 barrel problems. This is not an uncommon issue.

This is not a true test ! Ruger is a longer barrel length given it a truer shot. The Taurus is not for long range ! It will but not actually and they all hang up on 2nd round. It’s the mag and not the gun ! Clean magazines with a 20ga. Brush

I'm sorry but I watched 2 times you're just not steady your muzzle is moving quit a bit on both pistols, however more with the TX22, you need to retry this with some kind of rest - maybe try some CCI ammo also. The "Old Fat Dad Goober" shoots his TX22 a lot without hardly any problems.

Here's my opinion; a 4in group from a standing unsupported position at 25 yards (75 feet) is perfect acceptable using bulk ammo and a 70 year old gun. Specially seeing as this was done cold, and for a quick demonstration. You're more than welcome to post a video shooting your TX22 @ 75ft standing unsupported. I'd love to compare targets.

@@ironridgeoutdoors Realistically there's no way the TX22 will match the Ruger's Bullbarrel in accuracy but for what you get the TX22 is a bargain. I'll disagree with 4 inch group at 25 yards is acceptable -- if you was in a survival situation that will not get you feed --- IMHO squirrel size is min at 25 yards. Hopefully you'll never be in that situation but you never know what's around the corner.

Either way, I'd love to see a video of your 10 shot group @ 25y standing unsupported with a bulk ammo. I worked for years as a RO and I can tell you, 90% of shooters aren't just casually putting groups like that. If you're in that top 10% kudos; I'd love to see a video of you doing it.

Yes, the TX22 has a very good reputation, that's why I bought it, and yet many had to be sent back for various reasons. Mine, wasn't one of the good ones, and it needed work. I have read every comment, and multiple people have had similar and worse issues than mine, so I'm not alone in this endeavor. Let me know what you think.
