Would love to see a video where the only thing that changes in the iron is swingweight and how that effects things. Start at say D3 and then keep working up one swingweight point by adding lead tape. Swingweight is something that has a ton of confusion around it and would be great to get some clarity on its effect on the golf swing and at what point the effect becomes noticeable.

A lot of your shaft comparisons are 3 and 4 years old. You also tend to focus on the shafts for tour and stronger players. It would be very interesting to see a test of light shafts with regular flexes for players like your senior demonstrator and us seniors. Specifically I would like to see a comparison of the Project X LZ 5.0 110 gram shaft, the Project X IO 105 gram 5.5 shaft, and the KBS Tour Lite Regular flex shaft at 95 grams.

As one who works in the metals industry, I can tell you that while the seamless tube may not have a weld to deal with, it does have to contend with concentricity issues. This simply means that the wall thickness is more consistent on a welded tube because it starts as a rolled sheet while the ID to OD positioning of seamless tube tends to move around more because of the inherent forces of the process itself. Now that doesn't mean the manufacturer can't sort and scrap tubes that vary outside a given parameter, all I'm saying is that the process itself is more prone to what we call "runout."
@charlieodom91072 жыл бұрын
In my experience, the process of extruding or mandrel forming the tube eliminates any core shift, so thickness doesn't vary, barring any process defects, like air entrapment or pressure vessel leaks.

So go up in weight to gain timing and consistency. Exact opposite from 120 to 105; 120 may be too heavy and can’t control the face to path so go to a lighter shaft to increase speed and gain ability to move the club

Got fit into zx7 irons with Fuji Pro 85s at the beginning of last year. My iron game has completely transformed. Getting out of heavier steel but still with a stiff profile helped counter my miss of a dumped under, toey hook, which usually happened late in rounds when fatigue set in. Currently according to Arccos, I'm gaining 2.4 strokes on approach compared to a 3 handicap. With my previous gamers (z785 with PX, bought off the rack), the best round I had with them was +1 strokes gained, but usually averaged around 0 to -0.5, very excited to see the next installment comparing the best graphite iron shafts!

I dd a shaft fitting with my new irons and saw major difference between steel and graphite. 9 yards more carry yet lower spin with graphite. I use the Elevate 95 grams R and they create a better spin profile. They're shorter in distance by like an iron for me, but they stop faster and that's what matters with irons. I can throw the Ventis graphite into my irons and get another iron in distance but they spin almost an avg. of 1,000 less so continue to release on the greens. My point is the difference in spin profiles can be massive if testing graphite vs steel. At least for me it was. I decided to sacrifice the distance for more control and better spin.

I was fit into the Modus 120’s in my ZX7’s around this time last year. However, after doing a lot of work on my swing, I’m finding they feel too light and almost whippy. Bought an X100 and put it into a random 6i head I had laying around and I really like the feel.. but I’m no fitter. Wish I could get up to TXG!

I was fitted into the Zx7s with the project x ls 6.0 at TXG. Was super happy right up until I wanted to order them. 15 plus phone calls with no answer, 2 emails gave me another number to call, more answering machines and now I'm going to a Srixon fitting at a local golf club and ordering through them. 8 week turnaround is bad enough but when nobody answers the phone to take my money for 3 weeks it pretty much makes my new clubs usable for next year. Great business for fittings, poor customer support and follow up. Consider yourself lucky you can't get up here.

So which one was the right one given THIS test of the AVAILABLE shaft Ian? Also, this goes to show the complexity that fitters have to address given a fitting. Hence, two key elements of a fitting was already established...ie. the ball and club head.

I got a fitting and I drew the ball from 2 degree flat up to 3 degree upright. The guy said that I need to work on my swing. I tried graphite with a 1 inch length. 6'4". 1/2 longer. I have the Nippon 105g stiff. 7Iron . Swing speed 105. He said I may need a lighter shaft. I dont know? I dont mind drawing the ball. Just not consistent. I used to hit it straight. I had my right ankle re[placed. Now i can push off. I am stuck. Probably flipping my hands? I used to hit 130g straight. But the 5,6 were short. Getting good info with the video.

I was fitted for KBS $Taper 130’s in January and still have not received them. Recommendations for alternative shafts?
@AllOutNoobHater2 жыл бұрын
Is it better to get fitted by a company that uses GCQ or Trackman? My local Golf Exchange uses GCQ and Trackman together in order to get all the numbers that they need. But, Club Champion only offers Trackman. There hasn't been a video showing a comparison between the two, besides the Titleist RCT video, so does the club face data that GCQ collects, offer a better option over Trackman?

Great video guys. Would love to see a similar video which compares steel to carbon. As a Modus 105 player who has arthritis in his hands I would love to see what vibration dampening shafts would be comparible to the 105s that I love.

I went from Steelfibers to Modus 105. I put vibration dampening inserts in them to help out my bum wrist. They work great & aren't expensive.

What happens when you have a high swing speed, for example a 90mph with a. 7i, but aren’t that built / gave muscles? Will a 120g XStiff shaft be too heavy in the longer irons?
@andy66l972 жыл бұрын
How important would you say it is to be able to feel the weight of the head during the swing? Thx
@thisjustanother2 жыл бұрын
for me, im still trying to figure out if we are suppose to feel the head of the club as the heaviest point on the swing, or the entire club throughout. i have the elevate 95g shafts, while they are great, does seem like i feel the head of the club more than anything and does make me tend to tense up my fingers as i grip it on the swing. should i be going with a heavier shaft or stay with what i have as it helps to keep track of where the swing is
@BuffaloNickel92 жыл бұрын
No, you definitely want to feel the club head so you know where it is in space throughout the swing at all times! You never want to be guessing or lose feel of the club head. That's always a Certain way to hit a poor shot or chunk. You can demo a 105 or 110 why not? but I don't think Shaft-weight is the culprit for your tense grip. I certainly don't see many people playing the dynamic gold Elevate shafts but they're actually not a bad shaft. At all. Anyting d.g. is going to be reputable. Are there better shafts than elevate? For me yes. For others, Elevate is the perfect shaft. Did I put the Elevate off for the longest time and then was I super impressed when I actually tried it? You bet. Are you swinging a regular flex?

What about Swing Weights? Do swing weights affect ball flight, trajectory, etc.? Or just feel?

Can you look at some graphite iron shafts, please? I have Cobra Radspeed one length with graphite. I got them about a year ago and my iron game is really starting to come around. I have had five back surgeries and a knee replacement. I just could not tolerate the iron shaft. Graphite has allowed me to keep playing. I am 58 and about 6ft2” about 300 lbs. My low back and obviously my weight won’t let me turn like you younger healthy guys.

Ian, is there a steel shaft with similar characteristics as auto-flex? I a regular shaft guy, and really want to feel the loading of the shaft. Thx.
@MrLaboy22 жыл бұрын
For feel, flex, and weight yes it matters. But gimmicky “high spin” “low spin” doesn’t seem to me to be a real thing. Maybe I’m wrong but in irons, the spectrum of shafts and difference between them is much narrower then in woods or drivers.
@kirkridgers61992 жыл бұрын
Hi Guys, currently a modus 120 player but very interested in Oban CT115, cant get anywhere to test, what flex would you recommend for 80mph 7 iron swing speed? They appear to have more flex options including S, S-, R+, R - I find Modus 120 plays soft to flex, I definitely don’t want stiffer. Appreciate it.

Recently got a set of Apex 21's in like new condition with PX 6.0's and really like them. I had been using S300's forever. Little lower flight I feel like but little more accurate for me. I also had a set with dynalite s300's. I liked those for a 3/4 swing but on the course with a full swing I prefer the heavier, stiffer shafts.

As ever I love the video's but......a guy carrying the ball 170 plus, would you really put him in a PX 5.5? When comparing one shaft to another as a second option for availability reasons.....is a PX5.5 comparable to a PX LS which starts at a 6.0? Likewise is a PX5.5 really comparable to a DG X100? The Modus 120 was it an 'R', 'S' or 'X'? I'm just not sure it was made to be as directly comparable as it could have been if it had been say a PX6.0, PX LS6.0, DGS300 and a Modus 120S so all were recognised as being 'S' / stiff.

Been playing Modus 105’s for some time. Before that NSPro1050 so basically the same shaft since 2008. Never got on with Project X, 5.5-6.0. They always felt like they kicked too early in the downswing.

How much of a difference would you really get in feel with x100 tour issue to s400 tour issue? Are you just getting a marginal softer tip and butt section? Also I notice the s400 is a bit heavier slightly, do you know why that is?

I like the KBS Tour stiff flex but it’s hard to get. I don’t like the modus 120. Which of the other shafts would be closest to the KBS? My swing speed is similar to Mike maybe a couple mph’s more

Ian said the ball will produce more difference in height, spin and distance than the shaft. It would be interesting to see Mikey demon the shaft that works best for him with 5 or 6 different balls, both in terms of compression and manufacturer, so see which one produces the best results for him at his swing speed.
