TXT | First Time Hearing Deja Vu | Reaction & Lyrics

TXT’s lore is about growing up and things associated with that (self acceptance, (finding and losing) friendship, first love, escapism). This album is inspired by The Little Prince and was one of the main inspirations of their lore as looking back even their debut date 3-4-19 is linked to the line “if you come by at 4 I will be happy from 3”. I think the main thing is that something becomes precious and special (like magic) because you spend your time on it, like the rose in the story. The most precious things cannot be seen by the eye, but by the heart. The previous two albums were inspired by Peter Pan which has the theme of escapism (Neverland) and not wanting to grow up. Temptation album talks about being tempted to escape reality to Neverland (the sugar rush/staying a child), but realizing after a while that you are still not happy and need to continue with life to have a more complete life. Freefall album is about accepting to leave the temptation and embrace life with all unknowns as it also makes life exciting. But you try to see the magic in small things, like a child would. My interpretation of Deja Vu is this. The first scene in red is in Neverland, but as you mention it is a desperate run and you start to realize this cannot continue forever. The faceless runners represent society that rushes by you and the bump wakes you up to realize that you are missing something in your life (magic), the sense of anemoia or deja vu. The two hand that hold on to each other represent the friendship you made (as shown in CROWN and NAP OF A STAR), but it is straining and slipping away (CAN’T YOU SEE ME). The dark set with the racks represents a maze (MAZE IN THE MIRROR) which can be your memories or the escapism. The sense of deja vu is starting to remember the magic in your life (friendship or love) as seen by the colorful tears. Beomgyu is seen as an ethereal person (can be both male or female) that you are looking for. When the music is getting more intense and the siren is included it marks a crisis where you need to wake up/make decisions/take action (feels like the chaos in FROST) or fall down. The hands holding each other are losing their grip, but you are saved from falling by the one you were looking for. The crown references to your self acceptance of all the things that are different from the rest. The morse code (used since predebut) is like a signal that you hear but cannot easily decode (like deja vu). The promise under the star to stay together is always included in their lore.

I thought this one might be a bit more middle of the road for you! For me it had to grow on me after a few listens. It was mostly just loving Soobin's vocals in the second verse that kept me listening to the song long enough for it to REALLY grow on me, and now I absolutely love it. Your comment about the flowers growing out of Taehyun during the line "Within that long, eternal journey" looking like symbolism for death made me actually perceive the whole of the song through a different lens I hadn't thought about before actually! The more I think about it, the more the subject of death seems to make sense with the lyrics and the imagery. "Since some things are precious, but invisible to the eye, we forget them as life passes by." That quote could totally be taken in the context of losing someone precious to you, and because they're no longer with you, they begin to fade from your memory. In the sense of beginning to forget memories and feelings associated with a loved one, or beginning to forget details of their face or the sound of their voice. "Leaving you waiting at the start line" made me think of someone who you thought you'd run the race of life with, but they never got the chance to make it past the start line. The visual representation of Beomgyu this whole MV was interesting to me, why they chose to have him mostly depicted as this glittery mirage, but it definitely is giving me some afterlife imagery now that I think about it. A lot of the lyrics like "My future is you" "Be my eternity" I kind of just took as general you're-my-everything style co-dependency like you hear in plenty of songs. But the lyrics are filled with talking about promises you made to someone, sadness, forgetting, seemingly spanning over a very long time. Those lyrics could totally be taken as an eventuality or promise to be together in death, even if you never got the chance to in life. "Our place of promise. The land of rest, the return of eternity. You're the one that waited for me." and "Under the veil of light, I'll hug you tight" Those lines in particular seem very reminiscent of that. And then at the very end of the music video, you have the shot of Beomgyu catching Yeonjun before he falls backwards, and then he holds Yeonjun's head against his shoulder. And now they're in a very sunlit green field, together, even though otherwise the MV has had very dark or black and white imagery. So yeah idk, now that I think about it through that lens, it really does seem reminiscent of losing someone very precious to you earlier than you expected to and never getting the chance to keep those promises you made to each other. And you're dealing with that grief but also the confusing aspect of living the rest of your life without them and feeling that distance grow as your memory fades. But also still having this feeling of being on your way back to them as you try to remember them and wait to join them in death. ANYWAYS, that was a very long winded breakdown of my own ideas of the interpretation lol. Which I'm sure isn't supposed to actually BE the message, especially since I'm very out of the loop on lore and how the MV ties into other parts of this comeback. But that's the beauty of music. It means different things to different people and everyone gets something different out of it! Beyond just those ideas, I know there are some aspects that reference their universe, like the line about the dust-piled crown. I also know that this comeback was heavily inspired by the story of The Little Prince, which is something I'm largely unfamiliar with other than hearing a few people explain it in the context of this comeback. I agree, there is quite a bit of imagery and lyrics in here that could deal with the subject of death and waiting for/being waited for in the afterlife. Even if it isn't the original intention behind the MV, but yes, that's what's wonderful about good art. It can be viewed differently by each different viewer.

It would honestly be way too long to explain their lore but basically their mv is a summary of their music storyline so far. It mostly references their past songs like Crown, Run away, eternally, and nap of a star while also referencing phrases used in their storyline like; Morse code and promises. Their lore isn’t really supernatural, you might be thinking of Enhypen with the vampire theme. TXT has 2 lores one used in their webtoon and some mvs called the Star Seekers that revolves around magic then there is their music storyline which is where Deja vu falls. Their music storyline just tells their personal stories about growing up and the hardships and joy of life, the members share together. Minisode 3 tomorrow ep is pretty much a callback to their debut days and how far they have come together alongside moa aka their fans.
