I began working recently as a pipefitter and welder and after seeing this video i am very happy that i got lucky with a nice colleague who taught me those tricks in my first days of working, but still - the process of learning never ends its until you retire hehe. Nice and helpful video !

Been a pipefitter welder for 50 years and have used those techniques forever although I have never liked using the paper to divide the pipe rather I will find the circumference and divide it into fourths, eighths or sixteenths, use a 1/4” wide tape measure to make my measurements and then use the angle iron to make my lines .

Nice 👍🏽. How do I miter a Y on a 6” pipe were you would have your straight peace and then Y off your next pipe on a 45%
@benjaminvalenzuela394819 күн бұрын
I think you are referring to a branch. Just so I understand correctly, you have one continuous pipe that goes through, and then you have another pipe that connects to the straight pipe at a 45° angle?
@danielbadiang381719 күн бұрын
@ yes exactly

You could also use the first method to quarter the pipe. Just mark on the side
@frankreinhardt4417 ай бұрын
Yeah, a lot faster to use the square and level to quarter it than to make and use the tape method.

Bro, you can just crease your tape lined up with the side that makes it square. Also using the square method for finding center works on the sides as well as the top using the 1/2d method.

Use a small magnet to hold the paper tape in place at the seam. Bigger pipes it gets hard to transfer the marks while holding the ends together.

The paper tape trick is great, though, I think I would make the second folds separately, (so that the resulting tape made a "W" instead of an "L"), resulting in a more accurate 90 and 270 degrees. More important in machining than pipe fitting. Also, using the tape trick would provide a more accurate circumfrence tjan using a tape measure.
@johnjacobjingle83022 жыл бұрын
Ok you could just skip most of this video and go to 4:03.. put the level on the blade of that straight edge for plumb.. turns it 90 degrees for level and have 4 timing Mark's in 1 min.. you could even rest the end of the straight edge on top of the pipe.. find level useing the blade and mark both ends..
