Hi Melanie. In this case we painted Swedish pitch, molten bitumen, on the bottom of the posts before standing them upright on stones.

+Tony Wrench Hello !!! First , Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge !!! In your new book, you said : " 12, 13 or 14 rafters for a 5 m roundhouse" , but why just 8 for this one ? Next summer i want to start a roundhouse close similar to this one i'm in Québec.

There are eight rafters for the inner circle, and twenty-four for the outer circle.

Yes i understand ... (but now i'm talking about the inner circle) in your new book, you said : " 12, 13 or 14 rafters for a 5 m roundhouse" , the inner circle here is 5 m ? 8 rafters is an off ?

+Régis Grosset Hi. I try to explain more in my book A Simple Roundhouse Manual. Eight rafters is ok for 5 metre diameter if you can span the gaps with strong enough planks, or poles or secondary rafters. In this case the client wanted a minimum number of support poles in one big 11 m wide yoga room.

Very nice (y) I bought your book "Low impact roundhouse" This method looks different. Did you just burn the base of the uprights or you paint it with creosote or with tar ? Also, these sticks looks less deeper in the soil than in your book i think ... Maybe 6 inch or something like that. Thats right ? Thank a lot for your inspiration Mr. Wrench

Bonjour! This system is different. The posts stand on level stones. There are four arches constructed for the inner circle, then connected as an octagon, then eight arches in the outer circle. J'espère que tu comprends! Je suis en train de publier un autre livre qui l'explique en détail. My email is tony@thatroundhouse.info. Bon chance!

Tony Wrench Thank to you to take your time to answer. You guess i'm french, maybe my english is not perfect ;) I hope your new book will out soon. Can you tell me more about the treatment to prevent the wood from rottenness. There is 3 options in ''Low impact Roundhouse''. Doing nothing, creosote, and burning. What looks to be the best ? And do you think a combination of the techniques would be useful ?
