Too often I get a steak pie and it is blatantly mince. I miss the bakery's of old they really aren't the same anymore. And on that note are there any fish and chip shops left?

My local bakery burnt down a month ago, and it turns out it was the owner trying to claim the insurance because they weren't making any money, that bakery has been there for 30 years... Seems like alot of people are sick of overpriced pies made cheaply and are avoiding bakery's now. Gone are the days of "ill just grab a pie on my way to work" Can't afford that anymore

If the Meat is really tender it breaks down allot when you cook it before loading it into the Pie. That's cool you like Pies made with really cheap Meat, you can always just go to the Servo and get one there.

Come to south Australia and drive to McLaren Vale or Meadows. The bakery is called Pik a Pie. Great food and excellent value. I cannot fault it. Chunky steak pie as if I was having a steak on a plate. Jam packed with meat. I guarantee you Greg. Best in the country.

Dropped in at Buck's Farm, Chillingham, quite a while back (you might have driven past the place on your way to Tyalgum). At that time they had the best pies I had ever tasted (might have been a venison pie - was so good I went back for a second). Haven't had many better anywhere since. Other thing, seem to recall the locals pronouncing Tyalgum, 'Talgum'.!

Many bakeries use a premix of seasoning and thickeners to make their pie fillings. Two or three chunks of steak is pretty measely. The shape of that pie is strange. Maybe trying to have a more rustic appearance?

Years ago I got a pie from a tourist trap gardens in the Hunter Valley that was filled with gravy and not even a speck of mince or steak. You've not hit that rock bottom yet.

I think you may of had some bad luck with that one Grego. It does looks like a wardell pie and if they are the same ones sold at the Lismore pie tram I’ve had a chunky steak from there and found them ok plenty of chunks. The best pies I’ve come across in our travels are at Yackandanda near Beachworth Vic.

That place used to make their own pies, being generous 5 out of 10. The pie you have there is not homemade. You can get the same thing in Billinudgel, Wardell and Coraki. Probably also at the Lismore Pie Cart. They are all 0 out of 10. They don't taste good and they fall apart while you are trying to eat them. No meat, just glug.,
