Crazy how the wrestler couldn't do anything with the takedowns after he got tye down. He was either in a sub or backed off because he didn't know how to engage the guard. On top of that he had a hard time standing with tye as well...soooo wrestling doesn't stand a chance against high level Jiu Jitsu
@mikegold31303 ай бұрын
I don’t understand why people are justifying this by saying Nolf has zero jiu jitsu or that he’s a white belt as if wrestling doesn’t directly translate to jiu jitsu. A wrestler has takedown defense and offense, top control, passing, the ability to get up, those are all aspects of jiu jitsu yet when a wrestler loses to a jiu jitsu guy it’s because they suddenly have no jiu jitsu. Most of the time control comes before submission and Nolf is as elite as they come plus he has been around the sport of submission grappling for some years now. Obviously Tye is better at submission grappling but to act like wrestling doesn’t translate or like it’s as different to jiu jitsu as golf is to football is just insane to me.
@juniorsmith77773 ай бұрын
Wrestling translates to jiujitsu in many ways like you said however the submission element completely eliminates the usefulness of a lot things in wrestling. Low stance? No way, blast double, high-c? Think twice. Bellying out? Exact opposite principle to pulling guard. These are all fundamentals of wrestling that are nullified by jiujitsu. You really aren’t appreciating that they are not at all the same sport otherwise the transfer would go both ways, there’s a reason you don’t need world class wrestling to be a world class jiujitsu guy. Boxing would be completely useful for k1 kickboxing but you simply cannot ignore the first 4 letters of the latter, that is essentially what you are doing here.
@mikegold31303 ай бұрын
@@juniorsmith7777 my point is wrestlers have an immediate advantage when coming to jiu jitsu that you wouldn’t get in other sport. Many aspects of wrestling translate like I said with things like Takedowns, top control, the ability to stand up and scramble. Those things directly translate to jiu jitsu where as hitting a golf ball doesn’t translate to catching a football. When an elite wrestler has success in jiu jitsu it’s not surprising because it’s all forms of grappling. A highschool state champ will beat the average blue belt because takedowns, top pressure, and aggression all translate to jiu jitsu in which wrestlers have the advantage in over pure jiu jitsu guys and unless you’re an elite level finisher you likely lose on points to elite level wrestlers more often than not. Both forms of grappling and wrestling is huge when it comes to jiu jitsu which is why people shouldn’t be surprised when elite wrestlers can have competitive matches with black belts.

The judge who gave the 10-8 round needs to be evaluated. Flying arm bar attempt by Nolf at the beginning of the round. Shot by Tye is easily stuffed by Jason. Jason dumps Tye with a single leg and then disengages. Jason shoots a double and takes Tye down. Tye then defends and is able to take a controlling position where he spends the last 90 seconds working on a submission. Both men were aggressive, that's not a 10-8 round.
@Michael-ii9fs3 ай бұрын
Ok guys, to be clear, Tye isn't going head to head in Nolf's strength. That wouldn't involve the different scoring and submission elements. If it were wrestling, Tye would have been tech falled from takedowns quickly, if not pinned. Different game. The takedowns here have no consequence going to the back, and involve submission risk...Nolf is playing it safe there because his submission game isn't on par with Ruotolo. There was an element of wrestling displayed, but not exactly the same deal. Nolf needs time to improve submissions if he's going to go this direction.
@Michael-ii9fs3 ай бұрын
Also, there's a ton of film on how Nolf wrestles. It doesn't matter how much someone watches it, it won't help you unless your name is Kyle Dake. The advantage goes to the one with a ton of experience and domination. Not the rookie.

Nolf did pretty well. A world class wrestler with no experience in BJJ and he made a world class athlete like Tye bust his ass. Really the only reason Tye was able to beat Nolf was because the judges weren’t going to award Nolf the win if he kept taking Tye down so he needed to try grappling from the top position. If this was a takedown competition Nolf would have kick his ass. No question. But BJJ requires more skill than that and Nolf will have to get over that hurdle
@mikegold31303 ай бұрын
I mean to be fair Tye beat him because he’s better at submission grappling. Nolf obviously isn’t only training jiu jitsu but to say he had no bjj is crazy when he’s been training submission grappling for years now. He did very well but that’s also because Tye was brave enough to wrestle with him. Anyone else would’ve pulled guard and just rolled for his legs for a much less entertaining battle. Yes in wrestling Nolf dominates no questions but in submission grappling where finishing someone is the goal, there’s just no way he was going to submit Tye.
@zekegaeta91693 ай бұрын
@@mikegold3130 no I whole heartedly acknowledge that Nolf lacks the experience or to submit Tye. Like I said the most Nolf could do to him is take him down and throw Tye all day long. Brave enough to wrestle with him? What bravery ? When it comes to jitjitsu most wrestling is neutralized. In 10 minutes nolf could take him down 25 times , LITERALLY , NO QUESTION about it , but what good is it if they just put him in danger, so there is no bravery in trying to wrestle Jim
@mikegold31303 ай бұрын
@@theneonandchromeshow Tye was brave for wrestling because he didn’t need to do it. Ehh I would have liked to see the first round 10-9 Nolf. If you shoot a takedown you are more likely than not going to have to fight out of a submission attempt. Nolf fought out successfully without being swept and was punished for the entire engagement. I think that was an error in the scoring criteria. It's almost impossible to shoot a double leg like that and not get your head caught, that doesn't mean that the guy who got taken down won the engagement.
