I’m so old now at 67 I remember John’s Les Paul when he had a black pick guard, don’t ask when that was 🤣. His style in Tygers made me change mine resulting in me playing in a much bigger band (UK) than I would have done had his influence not been so massive on me. All memories now, thanks JS

The Tygers of Pan Tang are a part of New Wave British Heavy Metal and they formed in 1978, in Whitley Bay, England. The band name is derived from Pan Tang, a fictional archipelago in Michael Moorcock's Elric of Melniboné fantasy series where wizards keep tigers as pets. The band was originally formed by Robb Weir(Guitar), Richard "Rocky" Laws (Bass), Jess Cox(Vocals) and Brian Dick(Drums). Their first album, Wild Cat, in 1980, reached No. 18 in the UK album chart in the 1st week of release. The Current Members of The Tygers of Pan Tang are: Robb Weir(Guitar), Craig Ellis(Drums), Jacopo Meille(Vocals), Gavin Gray(Bass), and Micky Crystal(Guitar). They released a lot of singles and albums and have changed personnel a lot too. If you like British New Wave Metal give them a listen. 😎

Yeah Sykes is my cousin, liked the tigers, when they played 'reading rock'in 81i think, the band all stayed at my parents over the weekend, cos we lived in reading, I was in a punk band with my brother, our band was practicing when the tigers turned up, and we jammed with them, it was great,I loved it when John joined lizzy, phil Lynott became johns best friend, they both stayed at our parents when lizzy played reading in 86, johns mums my dads sister, all our family's us johns parents and another of my dads brother 'bill' we all emigrated to Ibiza in 72, they were the first brits to open a nightclub in San Antonio, my uncle bill started teaching John the guitar then, we all moaned about the racket he used to make, but they were great times, we all moved back to reading after a while :( then a few years later Johns parents moved to Blackpool, and his stepdad my uncle Ron built a class recording studio on the side of his house, phil and John lived there for a few years, then lynott had his overdose,it was a terrible time, when I read your messages about the Tygers I thought I'd just add this, I hope you've enjoyed it, I'm not gonna talk about white snake, they were shit and even when John wrote their best album off all time, the cheated him over royalties

Man I am from Brasil but let tell me something Sykes made Thin Lizzy metal withou loose Phil cool and lovely voice e made David COVER Plant finally stop to struggle in USA.The reason was Rock in Rio 1985 Sykes took the spotlitght from David and he got jealous because he moves on stage.Sykes guitar is his extension.I could see in 1987 in Worcester USA Whitesnake com Vandeberg oh my God!David try to cover Sykes. And thank God I watched alive Blue Muerder and Sykes playing Still of the night and sing prove who made 1987 album.I used to like Whitesnake but after the Cover Plants move against John many fans got away from the most ridiculous atitude in Rock Story.

Great story. I am waiting for a new Sykes album for so long. Tell John to put it out someway!!! Flew to London in 98 to watch him with Lizzy in Brixton Academy. Great show. Made some great pictures. Gave it to him a few years later in Germany while he was touring with Lizzy. I talked to my hero, he shaked my hand, he signed my photographs. Manager wanted to chase the fans away from the tour bus. John told him to stop that an let me in the bus. Gorham was there to. I talked to both. Great moment in my live. Great guys. I hope John is doing well and starts making music again. I love their music, love their style. These guys lightend the flame in me to learn to play the guitar. Sure not as good as them, but they are a part of my live and I am greatfull for every note they played. Some poor ideas of myself, if you want to listen. Best wishes! kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZovKZ2tuh9aLj8k

I hear you, I just think that the Sykes/Deverill lineup was one of those where the sum is greater than the total of all of its parts. I actually love Wild Cat, it is raw, bluesy, and has great riffs. I give the rest of the Tygers more credit. We're not on totally different pages though, Sykes is amazing, and I wholeheartedly agree they fell to shit after he split. I'm content to disagree, I always enjoy debating good rock with someone who has an intelligent opinion. Keep rockin'!
