Nick CHAVEZ II - I saw John at Toad’s Place in New Haven, CT on the same tour (probably within a few days). I was wearing a Thin Lizzy t-shirt I made and he played the solo to Thunder & Lightning about three inches from my face!! I met John afterwards and he told me how he first met Phil Lynott (through producer Chris Tsangerides) and signed my T&L album cover. It was one of the best nights of my life! He was so cool and gracious! L’amours was an amazing venue!! Night after night there were incredible metal acts playing there for years! Man, I miss those days!! Peace, brother!

ChrisWhite85 Sure Chris. I get that. And in many ways I liked the 80s stuff being there and all. Sykes is one of my fav guitar players. However, whitesnake has had several big eras and the first was in the 70s with Marsden who is a great blues player. Shame Coverdale is such an apparent ass. Recognition for the Sykes era never really said that the biggest hits off the 1987 album were actually written by Sykes before he met Coverdale. And they were cracking tracks and he is a cracking guitar player. I wish I had his royalties :)

Mendoza is such an underrated bassist but he is a god, and he sings, I mean he SINGS, he sings backvocals, 2nd voice, harmonizing and rocking. it's like half & half WhiteSnake right here (the better half, of course :))

A savage on the guitar but has incredible vocals as well. It's pretty obvious why Coverdale felt threatened. A highly underrated human being.

John Sykes is one of of my favorite guitarist right up there with EVH, SRV, and Jimmy Page! An inspiration for my own playing these 44 years, though I can’t come near his skill level or speed! AND HE CAN SING WHILE PLAYING ALL THAT!!! MINDBLOWING!

You can't teach the stuff John does on a guitar...the tone, vib, melody lines, riffs ... it's all right up there! Guy can sing a bit too! Love it!

Isn't it amazing that even after he walks away from the microphone, you can still hear him singing 1:40 ? And that the video was obviously shot with cell phones or consumer cameras, but the sound is pretty good? It's almost as if it's an overdub and not real. Almost. I hate fake shit. You should too.

He has astonishing licks and riffs. He was the bright and burning torch for Whitesnake for many years. I always wondered why he never auditioned for Dio. He would have been a classic fit.

Eddie Trunk said that he DID audition for DIO in 82 or 83 but lost out to Vivian Campbell - A decade later Sykes auditioned to replace Steve Clark in Def Leppard - and again lost out to Campbell.
