A great fly the Jock Scott, I always carry a few in my box, a handy fly if there are sea trout on the go and of course a reputable salmon fly.A nice bit of tying, stay safe.

Its really nice to see that these flies are still used. I live where there are no sea trout or Atlantic salmon so I've never used these flies. I'm physically unable to fish any longer so its all for art and collecting now. I would have loved to fish some of these and caught at least one nice Atlantic or sea trout. Tha ks so much for watching!!!! 😎🤘

@flytyingwithrichlamonte4008 A pleasure to watch, my hands are seizing up gradually with arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome, so it is getting difficult setting the wings place, it takes a lot of patience and frustration. My mentor many years ago set me the task of tying a Jock Scott as my first fly to tie, I made many mistakes over the weeks until he examined my finished fly and said you are now fit to tie any fly you please. That fly nearly drove me insane but I thanked Jack for the task he set me, poor Jack is long gone but I remember everything he told me and showed me about the art of tying classic flies, long may the Jock Scott continue to bring pleasure both to fly tiers and anglers alike. All the best for 2023.

Excellent video Rich, really enjoyed watching this especially bits that I have been finding tricky. I'm sure you all ready know that the macaw fibres are the shape of a T and the blue is the top of the T, hence why it's near impossible to tie one in with the blue facing outwards😬

Yes I agree. Its darn impossible. Actually just about all feather fibers are T shaped to some degree..... It just depends...

@3:35, curious why you don’t use the pinch method to tie your wings? I noticed this on Part 1 and on another video where you tied the Blue Charm. That method prevents the wing from twisting on you and having to adjust as you do here. @57:58, it’s been a very long time but when I took a class with Ron Alcott to tie this very same pattern, I remember we soaked the head with head cement, let it dry well and then used a razor blade to remove most of the tying material including the thread, I believe. Then started to build a small head from there on. The class was not recorded and this took place prior to cellphones. Thanks.

I prefer the drop bobbin method. However this video is an older one from last year. I've learned a bit more and am a little better at forming heads. Thank you for the comment tho it gives me something to think about a bit more when im tying. Thank you for watching so intently as well! I really appreciate it. Hope you are well

The burnished pretty much is polished stone. If you go on to Amazon and look up jade jewelry burnisher it should pop up. They are less than $10. Very nice tool to have!!
