Excellent tie. Really unusual, but expertly done as usual. I didn’t used to like Kelly Gallop. Seemed to always make a 6 min fly tie last half an hour, but I’ve got used to him and now I’m an avid fan and kind of enjoy his ramblings. Now I watch you and Barry ord Clarke for patterns and Kelly if I’m washing up and don’t want to skip an advert with wet hands. 😂

Funny Kelly was just commenting on what a great tyer you were a few weeks ago. Love the Organza wing. The bent hook really can make a difference when the trout get spooky. Thanks again for sharing.

Hi Davie, I use a 4 inch razor scissor which is a popular style with many fly tying companies but you will find many copies some good and some bad..I'm glad you like fly it is a great pattern.. All the very best Davie

I hear you, some days feel like this for me too. A couple aggressive false casts done away from the fish you are targeting work in a pinch, but dry magic and loon's lochsa are the best floatants I've used. They are pricey (10-15 bucks) but a bottle will last several seasons as you only need the smallest bit. Always put the floatant on before the fly gets wet. I forget to do this sometimes and once the fly is waterlogged more floatant doesn't really help. Also some flies just float better than others. Anyways they say 90% of what a trout eats is underwater so I can't see a sunken fly being a bad thing, although I believe you miss strikes this way if there is not a tight line, and when dry fly fishing we do not want a tight line, but a slightly slack line so we do not get drag. I don't know if anything I've said can be of use to you but I hope so, dry fly fishing is my favorite part of the sport and if I can help give any information that may help I'd be happy about that. False casts and floatant! And if all else fails simply change the fly.

@@sirmegallot3276 some good advice..agree, foatant is so important. Wouldn't dry fly without it. False casts and powder floatant to help dry them out if needed. Often use a single klinkhammer or dry with a dropper for ages without changing. Couldnt do it without a good floatant though 👍

Three good flies for me would be the Double Humpy, Shuttlecock and the Bubble CDC though I could pick a few others like the Griffiths Gnat, Sedgehog and Hoppers... All the very best Davie..

Can anybody give me some info, am a right in saying that we don't really get the large Mayflies in Scotland and the flies we come a cross are upwinged duns, mostly, ephemeropteras.

Hi Paul, There are waters in Scotland that do get hatches of the larger sized mayflies like you get in Ireland but not many...The best hatch I've seen closest to me was on Lake of Menteith..There's many more up north and they mainly come off in June and even early July.. All the very best Davie

Thank you again Davie for your reply, may be it is just me but I call the flies we see on the waters as up winged or duns, eg dark olive, iron blues, medium olives and so on, but most other people call them mayflies, that was where I was trying get the differential from.

Hi Jose, I use spinner patterns mostly in the evening and throughout the whole season as they will be on the water at some point, that's why it's worth tying a few different sizes and colours to suit the species that you are representing.. All the very best Davie
