Davie, Just a short Thank You. I'm an East Texas crappie jig fisherman and you provide great instruction and ideas that I use in crappie fishing. Bottom line, we are all after some specie of finny critter, and good patterns will cross over to different fish. Thanks again for all your hard efforts.

Interesting fly! I love a Y2K, heavy and bouncing the bottom, maybe I need to try this one or stick some foam on a weightless Y2K.

Hi Davie, you got some fans that want something from you. I read the previous posts and am amazed about the competition over fritz. Anyway, never used them, never tied them. So many other skills I am trying to learn. I may get to them someday but now I am trying to learn Atlantic Salmon flies, and keep up with the ones my friends want too. All the best and don't get caught in the straggle war! All the best to you and yours. God bless. Sean

hi Davie, I see you decided what to do. I only know of these flys by what I've read in UK fly fishing magazines. they're beautiful attracter patterns, I wouldn't hesitate to use for Kings or steelhead under certain conditions, drifted on the river bottom without the foam, or still fished off bottom with the foam in lakes. I've used similar type material for bodies, but the split foam application was awesome. now I've read that the fritz type material has to be tied in by the end opposite of the flow of the fibers so it lays back wet fly style when wrapped. is that true? it looks apparent on the boosted but not the other. thanks Davie, great tye.
@DavieMcPhail8 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe Duca, These patterns are very popular over here in the UK as you have seen in the magazines, I worked for over 14 years at a trout fishery and I was always amazed how many fish these patterns caught even fish I would say know what a fly look liked would have a go..Even if you wrap the fritz the wrong way it will lay back eventually but I do prefer to get it to sit like a hackle would in a wet fly... All the very best Davie

Thats a beautiful looking whip finish tool, where can i purchase one? Great fly as always If you don't mind, could you tie a snake pattern? They're a good and productive pattern used at Grapham

Hi Ayman Choudhery, I've attached a link to the whip finisher I used in the video it's made by Tiemco... I have never tyed a snake pattern so I would need to look at these flies and tye a few before I could film one but I'll certainly keep it in mind... www.fullingmill.co.uk/Products-UK/Tiemco-UK/Tiemco-Midge-Finisher-UK All the very best Davie

What is the difference between tying foam at the head of the fly vs the back of the fly. Is it just that the fly floats head up vs butt up. Any difference in retrieval action? If the fish are suspended at 10' in 15' of water,should I just use a 5' leader that would allow the fly to float up to 10' if the sinking line is on the bottom?

@jimfurik10424 жыл бұрын
Hi Davie, what is the purpose of using foam in the tail. Is it for density of colour more than its buoyancy?
@DavieMcPhail4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jim, It's both for colour and buoyancy as you can use it to control the depth of your other flies, it does take a lot of fish as well so it's very popular when fishing competitions on the lochs and lakes of the uk.. All the very best Davie

@DavieMcPhail7 жыл бұрын
Hi Stryker 2, I rarely fish these flies but when I do I use it on the point to control the depth of other flies on the cast or on the top dropper especially when fishing it on the hang just before you lift off.. All the very best Davie

Hi Davie, I was wondering what is the purpose of splitting the foam? Is there any reason?
@DavieMcPhail3 жыл бұрын
Morning Tom, The main story behind the foam was to slow the sinking rate of the fly especially in competitions as this can be a great advantage.. By splitting the foam and tying it in like this helps to keep it's shape and looking like a normal blob and hidden from your competitor, this was a great advantage to the Scotland team when it first came around though now most know about it.. All the very best Davie

Hi Davie, very nice blob, what is the dimension of your foam tail? 4mm? Thx
@DavieMcPhail5 ай бұрын
Hi @przemyslawtomaszewski8567, I did use 4mm though I have tyed them with 5mm and even 3mm though the 3mm fabs I use less turns so they are much sparser.. I'm glad you liked it.. All the very best Davie

Hi Sandra, I have tyed blobs on a few hooks over the years from the Kamasan B175, B160 or the Fulling Mill versions being the most popular barbed hooks..I have also used some specimen hooks for carp though most now are barbless like the one being used in the link I have attached which is sold as a blob hook. funkyflytying.com/product/fasna-f-500-barbless-blob-hooks/ I hope this is of some help to you..
