Thought about doing the back of the fly in 2 prosesses? First tie inn the stuff going to the back of the chrimp (The tail) Then another for the back its self. It gives a mutch bether durability of the fly when it comes to larger fish. Just a though :)

G'day Mr McPhail, Out of interest.... who inspired / taught you to tie flies ? He or she must be extremely proud to see the exceptional tier that you have become , You have certainly been an inspiration to me in my tying. Keep up the good work mate. Nick Bell from down under.
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick, At first I used a book to learn how to tye called Lets Fish the Cylde by Robert C. Sharp as I was only interested in tying dry flies to fish the rivers as I wouldn't fish until I saw fish rising...I read many magazines too and there were many tyers that had great articles which helped me. But most of what I learnt was through fishing and working on waters and tying many patterns over many years. The most inspiration comes from kind people like yourself asking me questions and letting know how much I have helped them as this is the best inspiration anyone can ask for, so thank you for all your kind words... All the very best from Scotland.. Davie....

Hi Davie, I also like to buy a Regal Vise. Let to hear your advice. I bought my First vIse The Norvice with all the different Jaws. But I cannot get the thread very tight by rotating the vice, I give up and bought a marc petitjean premier master rotary that can be use as a c-clamp n also a desk pedestal. But seems the Jaws starting to get rusty. Heard the Regal was good and I know you can't be wrong. I like to know the normal rotary or the revolution rotary would be more desirable. I only fish in the sea and Hooks size is no. 4 to 4/0. Greatly appreciate to hear your valuable input and opinion.A big game Jaw or the stainless will suffice…or need both… Thanks in Advance. Jparry Singapore
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Jparry, If I was you I would contact Regal direct and explain to them what you tye and what flies you tye and if the revolution rotary action would be best as I just use the normal rotary action version as I prefer this as this is the style I've always tied with....The big game version would be the head that you would need as it holds the hooks sizes you tye on.. Let me know how you get on... All the very best Davie
@jparryprodeal
@jparryprodeal 9 жыл бұрын
HI Davie, Thank you for your advice. I like yours rather then the seller as their interest may be different. Although I just started fly tying I am still more comfortable tying the thread round the hook manually then rotating the vice. I just could not mastered it to get the thread real tight on the shank by rotation. I only rotate the flies occasionally to look at n apply a little adjustment. I think I will go for the normal rotary regal. I saw yours was a stainlessJaw, But the big game is not stainless,, I am afraid it will get rusty, my Norvice brass finish all tarnish n becomes ugly, and the marc petitjean becomes bait rusty and I have to apply a thin film of oil…So the stainless caught my eyes… I love to watch you tying your flies, you are really crisp and detail in all your flies… thank you so much for sharing… hope to see u tie a baitfish for salt water soon.. Cheers Japrry

Hi Gavin, If I'm having problems with a dubbing I'll put it in a small coffee grinder that I have and pulse the blender to mix and air out the fibres which should make it easier to dub..I also like to blend in a finer dubbing if this doesn't work like rabbit or even some lite-brite or something similar which will help bind it which will help it to dub onto the thread really easy..I do have a video on youtube which I have attached for you to see how I blend dubbing.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6KqlJ6obLmlmac All the very best Davie
