I agree, did very well with this in 16 for Brook Trout in spring creeks, also used a shakable top ride floatant by Loon for the first time. The combo made the fly very realistic and a killer for the surface.

What is traditional attire for fly fishing? Would a kilt be frowned upon? I'm a quarter Buchanan. My grandmother was the first of her family born here in the US. Just wondering. I recently taught my dad how to fly fish. Thought it would be neat to do it the way they used to back in the old days. My great grandfather fought WWI in a kilt. He was a Highlander brigade soldier (I forget the actual unit name) and he got sent home after he and like 7 others survived a gas attack out of stone 300+ men. His uniform was crazy by today's standards and I mean that in the coolest way.

Fantastic Video as always Davie, my tying is going fantastically now amd I really have a good rhythm with it now. Sadly my father died last year and he was a massive part of fishing for me so I sold my vice, rods the lot.. Happy to say I have a tying table again now and have in the last few weeks started tying again. Ive had to tie everything from scratch so Ive tied a few hundred over the last week or so to get a good box together......... Anyway I digress,..... Could I use a grey CDC and olive seals fur blend for body and then use a grey feather for the wing.. I don't have any olive cdc amd I doubt the died grey ones I have will dye well olive lol. I have dyes I just have yet to buy a bulk pack of CDC. (Just finished tying a cross between an olive bumble and a pearly palmer on a size ten, used a white/grey partidge and a died hot orange Partridge as the front hackles.. Was alot fun. Thanks fpr teaching me Davie)

Brilliant Davie. I know you're concerned about ads in your videos. One to start and one to finish seems fair, but were FOUR in this one, including two in mid tie. We're all grateful for your work, but four ads is so distracting. Are there pressures from Fulling Mill?
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Duofold, I have always blocked the extra adds that they want to put on as I hate them myself especially the ones in the middle.. I just checked and it seems they have changed things so that when they are over a certain length they automatically put the adds in to run in the middle so I have now went back and took these out for the last 6 or more and then I'll look at checking the others for this year to see what settings they are at..It's nothing to do with Fulling Mill as it's a banner I add to the video myself when editing and it's KZbin that controls the default settings for the adds so I'll need now to keep an eye on them...Thanks for letting me know and if you see a video with too many adds let me know and I'll change the settings.. All the very best Davie..

Davie, As always enjoy your videos as I've been doing for many years. Question: As you know, typically when using a CDC feather for the body, Marc Petitjean will twist the CDC as he wraps in around the hook. That technique provides a tapered effect, but results in a bit larger diameter profile than the technique you used in this video of wrapping the CDC flat, without twisting it. Do you prefer this technique when using CDC as a body on dry flies? Again, thank you. Cheers, Bryan
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Bryan, I do like and use Marc's method as well though the way I used it will give you a finer body especially on the smaller size dry flies.. Some cdc feathers can be quite sparse in fibre and twisting it will help you get a better body unlike the feathers I used in the video that have a lot of fibre so I have to watch that I didn't tye in too much..I'm glad you enjoy the videos and thank you for the kind words... All the very best Davie

Hi Dragon-Wolf, Unfortunately the vice I use is no longer being made, it is called a law vice named after the gentleman that made it...I have attached a link to a video I made showing it as I do get many questions about it..There are lots of vices out there as you said and it can be hard to pick one. One of the best ways to help you make your choice is to go along to a flyfair / show and look at the vices being used by the many tyers and you'll see the one that suits the flies you tye..Unfortunately until this virus gets under control I can't see one for a while.. @@DavieMcPhail Thank you for the quick reply. I researched it and found out that those are going for thousands of dollars on E-Bay now. I'm reluctant to spend hundreds of dollars on a first vice, never mind thousands. I'll continue my search. Take care . . . John
