Materials Used;
Hook, Fulling Mill All-Purpose Medium Size 12
Thread, Uni-8/0 Rusty Brown
Body, Tan 2mm Foam and Rootbeer Diamond Brite
Wing, Elk Hair and White Aero Dry Wing
Legs, Black and Yellow Rubber Legs
Thorax, Diamond Brite Rootbeer
Head, Tan 2mm Foam

I just tied one of these (never tied a hopper pattern before) and it went right from my vise to the water. The 4th rainbow kept it for good! They were taking it near the banks and even in the middle of the stream. I like fishing with terrestrials, because good presentation actually involves a messy splash to get attention. I love watching trout take such big dry flies; I used a 12 like you did, but I bet it would work with a 10 as well, I'd even give an 8 a try.

Nice job on this fly! It took me a couple of tries to tie foam onto a hook without cutting the foam with the thread. A perfect example where brute force was trumped by finesse and brain power. Who would have thunk?

Hi Ken, I've tyed them down to a size 14 though you could go down a size or two..I'm tying mostly trout flies at the moment but I'll be tying salmon flies as the season goes on.. All the very best Davie..
