Hi Davie, Thanks for sharing your version of the IBD pattern. You actually brought back some great memories of when I first tied this wet fly over 50 years ago, I used red Pearsall’s silk and was also taught to wax and spin the Moles fur dubbing, in the same manner you described in your video. This is still a good technique to follow with many other dubbing materials and pleased that this traditional method has not been forgotten. Best regards, Wayne 😀👍

I enjoy tying the more challenging flies to develop my skill but I usually give away them to my friends. It’s the simple, sparsely tied flies like this one that catch fish for me. Thanks for sharing Davie! Hank

I love that you're on KZbin. Every now and then when I need to see how a particular fly is tied I always look at your videos, you're like an encyclopaedia on fishing flies, and to tie such a simple fly as this one is a true mark of the type of person that you are. It's easy to get caught up on Tying the hardest most complicated flies, which we all know you can but to put on KZbin such a simple fly, thats so simple to tie tells me that you are a genius.

Hi Vincent Donnelly, It's the simplest flies that catch the fish as I'm sure you know and to be honest these are the flies I fish and enjoy tying the most.. It's very kind of you to let me know what you think which means a great deal to me...I'm very lucky as there's many good people like yourself that help and inspire me to keep doing these videos... All the very best Davie

Hi Andrei Dume, It's great to hear that you find my video very helpful and that they have encouraged you to advance your tying but remember it's all your practice and the enjoyment you get from tying your own flies that makes them turn out to be very good fishing flies, so well done to you....Thank you for your kind words... Beautiful tie Davie. I am amazed you can tie those tiny hackles in with your fingers. I have really small fingers but the starling can frustrate me a lot. All the best to you and yours. Sean

Oh and by the way Davie, thanks very much for “lighting” the fly - I do this all the time. Oh and by the way Davie, thanks for "lighting" up the fly.Oh and by the way Davie, thanks for "lighting" up the fly.I have an aquarium that is about 18” wide, 12” high and 3” thick that I use for water-testing my flies and find it illuminating (sorry) to light and back-light the flies. Find it amazing how a fly that looks OK dry suddenly looks way over-dressed when viewed the way the fish see them. Cheers, Hank

beautiful. I have silk thread now from my grandma and a friend that purchased one of our dogs. he also gave me lots of wood duck, lemon & blk+wht barred. wood cock too. I have a midge bobbin that I almost broke trying to put standard size spools in. so now I'm set for tying soft hackles & wet fly's. also have a few starling feathers from hawk kills on my property. now, thanks to you, I know how to touch dub by spinning thread. beautiful sparse body on that fly, it had that halo glow. I have some slf prism & ice dubbin that I'll be blending now. thanks for pulling me out of a tying rut!! PS my biggest fly hooked trout was on a #12 grouse & orange, hares ear thorax. I let line load the rod at the end of a drift to make my forward cast & my reel screamed! first time I had smoking runs like that. Mary my wife tried to net it for me after 5 runs but it broke off. anyway you're a cure for cabin fever. thank-you sir. ATB!!!

+Davie McPhail yes I will. hope you're feeling better. any luck on the audio problem? I'm still learning how to use this tablet & hone my typing skills. thanks for the practice. at 63 you'd think I would've learned long ago. my wife is a programer too! I'll let you in on secret, your channel keeps me out of trouble! so keep'em coming, stay safe and God bless you & yours!

Hi Joe Duca, I'm still working on the audio, it's always caused me problems giving me lots of headaches..The problem is all down to buying the new camera and software as the old one was over ten years old which is 10 life times to the computer world so you can see what I mean, your good lady would understand this much more due to her being a programer as things change very quick in this world of computing...I'll always keep working away so I hope to keep you entertained for a long time to come.... All the very best Davie..

Hi patrick mc earthy, I've fished them in many ways especially the two that you have mentioned. I also like to fish one below a dry as this works well when a hatch is stopping and starting and the fish are not fixed on one stage of the flies that are coming off...I'm glad you liked the fly... Hello Davie... I've been meaning to ask for a while now. What Pearsall's threads do you find most useful? I've got primrose, green, orange (tying the classic 'partridge and...' flies), brown for Stewart's Black Spider, crimson for iron blues, gold for your beautiful Grouse and Gold. I've noticed you tie Kite's Imperial with purple. Are there others you would have? Thanks for your help, Davie... Mike

Hi Mike, The main colours i like to use are orange, black, primrose yellow, purple, red crimson, claret, brown, gold, blue and olive I've mostly used them on wets though I've used them on a few dries as well... All the very best Davie

Dear Davie 's. please tell me. Is not it loop dubbing?
@DavieMcPhail6 жыл бұрын
Hello, I spin the bobbin holder anti clockwise which will cause the thread to untwist then I wax the thread so that the fine dubbing will stick then I can spin the bobbing holder clockwise so that the thread will tighten up griping hold of the dubbing..This will give you a very life like body...I hope this is what you asked... All the very best Davie..
