Girl 👊👊👊 Ive been homeschooling for 10 years- how did I not think of this? This is the perfect answer to my hesitations with the numerous pre constructed Book of Centuries!! Doing this for sure. Thank you!

I love that you added in a grid page for the whole century (I can see that I might use these in various ways, perhaps coloring in years in which wars happened, presidents were in power, art movements, etc.). I also love that you included copies of book covers along with the other info including dates covered, this is genius! Thank you so much for sharing this.

This is the best option I've seen so far!! Thanks for the idea! A notebook seemed too restrictive to me- this is perfect!

Yay! I hope it works as well for you as it does for us! The flexibility has truly been key.

Love this idea! I've wanted to do a book of centuries or timeline or something for history but, like you said, the thought of running out of room (or doing it wrong) has made me very hesitant. This idea is brilliant, thanks for sharing!

So glad to have found this! I have a kindergarten interested in history but have a fear of “messing up”. This is such a great idea! Getting a binder and tabs today!

This is very similar to how we handle Book of Centuries. I basically took the CM concept and just figured out how we could do it for free and in a way that would be adaptable. So what I did was get a binder (we all contribute to the same binder) and tabs. For the more modern era I have tabs for every century but my tabs are less frequent in the earliest history. Once a week the kids decide what they want to add. It might be something that we actually read in our history studies, or it might be a historical event in another read aloud, it might be something significant that happened in their own life, sometimes it's when someone they're interested in was born, or when an invention they learned about or appreciate was invented. Pretty much whatever. Whatever it is we find out where it needs to "live" in the book of centuries. If that year is already in our book of centuries (ie if we've previously added something from that year because I don't add pages ahead of time) we add the new item to that peice. If not we label a new peice of cardstock with that year and add it to the correct place in the binder. My kids love to draw so they usually just draw a picture and then either write or dictate to me what it is that we are adding.

I love this. It sounds similar, but I love that you have a space for it in your homeschool and that the kids can choose anything to add!

Love this idea. Would love to add agriculture or weather related items too (think farmers almanac). Maybe even composer’s or artist.

I just created a 10x10 grid in Google docs (a table), but then I wrote all the numbers by hand. It took a while. I should try to create something online I can share. I also didn’t make them all at once - just as needed.

I finally added the grid page templates to my website. They are available to download for free at the link in the video description.

This is cool. I like your binder method. We've attempted several timeline methods over the years without much success. I personally just feel like I'll only attempt it again if one of the children show interest in keeping one.

That makes a lot of sense. I’m not perfect with this one, but I figure over years of homeschooling, whatever’s in there will be kind of a keepsake, and hopefully will help them tie a few things together.

I’m learning to do better at adding things too. I’m getting a good system worked out - it’s easy to forget. The kids can add anything whenever, but I’m trying to add a few things into my lesson plans to put in too. :)

Wonderful! I will start putting this together with my student very soon. I have downloaded your free pages and was wondering if there is any way I could have a copy of the grid you showed. Thank you so much for a great idea and free downloads.😊
