I love the PTN but why all these years did we use for the tail which break off after a couple fish. I now spade hackle fibers which are really tough

I have no idea, but you actually make a pretty good point. I suppose it may be a tradeoff between stiff and tough barbs, and ones that might have a little action but be less durable.

Great tie Matt. I ll be throwing a few in my flybox. I live in NE Pennsylvania so I'm always interested in anything Joe Humphreys .I have both books; "On The Trout Stream" and "Trout Tactics". I cant seem to find any pattern specifics in either book. Where did you find the pheasant tail recipe? Thanks
