Lovely tying as usual. I remember a few great days fishing with this fly and a Baltic Special in the estuary in Dundrum Bay at the foot of the Mournes. Spectacular views! I like to tie it with holographic silver tinsel and rib the silver wire over the top of the mallard too, to protect it as I doesn't tend last too long once you've hooked a few. Great idea with the peacock herl. Thanks for sharing

Thanks David great looking fly!Perfect for minnow imitation here in eastern Wyoming.A few are going in my box.

I did enjoy it, Davie... enjoyed it a lot, thanks. Every once in a fly or so, I get caught up in what you are doing with your fingers. This fly, winding the hackle and stopping the wrap with your finger to re-grab. It's a thing I learned from you back in the beginnings of your KZbin videos. You've changed the way I tie flies, Davie, and I'm a happy soul for it. Mike

Another great informative tying Dave, you make it look so easy. As others have said this would be great in smaller sizes for the reservoirs, however I’ll be trying to tie a couple for some Welsh sewin.

A beauty of a fly. The use of the dubbing loop to protect the herl great idea. I am going to try them in smaller sizes including down to comp legal. On the stillwaters as a pin fry imitation. As well as the larger examples for deep big brownies.

I was thinking the same thing for Stillwater. That fly looks just like our stunted strain of silver salmon here in Montana, in the lake I fish.

WHOA Davie man .. 2 awesome things here. 1 what an elegant fly.. and second that peacock hurl loop is the best way i have seen to do that.. other methods with a loop spinner are a bit much but the way you show is really nice the hurl came out great!! gonna try that for sure ... Thanks again for sharing your mastery < J

Great fly Davie. I've had some big browns out of the lough. Also has a lovely shape I think. One question though: it appears to me that all the white thread except for the tail tie in is covered, so why use it for the majority of the fly and then change to brown? Apologies if I missed something... all the best. Cuan

Does the Globrite floss shine thru the Mylar tinsel and/ or the peacock?
@DavieMcPhail2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, Not really though it does show up well if you leave a space between the turns of the silver tinsel so it would be certainly worth tying some like this... All the very best Davie..

Tried tying this ages ago, but could never get the back to sit right. Wasn’t it meant to be a sand eel imitation? One of his other flies, Rogan’s Extractor, is good for the loughs.
@DavieMcPhail2 жыл бұрын
Hi Rossa Mullen, I believe it does represent a sand eel and when you see the eels feeding you can see why it works so well..I was over there at that time as a consultant for Rogans so I was lucky enough to see a few patterns by him.. All the very best Davie..
@keithr42242 жыл бұрын
Nice move on the tail. Makes it a total different fly. Would you consider it Wet? Or, Streamer?
@DavieMcPhail2 жыл бұрын
Hi Keith, I would would say it's both though it's classed as a streamer/lure just by the size and what it's trying to represent being a sand/eel pattern..I'm glad you liked the fly.. All the very best Davie..
