So this is a new type of thing im trying. You come along while I tie a few flies for sale. I really do not know how you all will like this, considering the videos are so long. But, I will give it a try and see how it goes. This will allow me to make more videos for you guys.
So the fly I am tying is the GTI Caddis, a fly created by Lance Egan to match caddis pupae. It really is one of my favorite nymphs to mimmic caddis in the rivers I fished up in Colorado when I lived there. It is heavy with tungsten (I also add lead wraps) and it has a very defined back ribbing, with the light color green body like many of the caddis species where I would fish. It really is a great all around fly.
As always here is a list of the materials I used on this fly.
Hook: Firehole sticks #316, however I highly recommend Risen's Barbless emerger 2488BL to save money, great hooks! - www.risenfly.c...
Bead: Firehole Outdoors Tungsten Gold Bead - But I highly recommend Risen's tungsten gold beads to save money, as they are just as good - www.risenfly.c...
Weight: Lead Wire Size .010 - amzn.to/2Cz0BG4
Tail: Peacock Hurl - www.risenfly.c...
Flash: Crystal Flash Pearl - amzn.to/2ZpwHgo
Tippit: 5x mono or fluorocarbon - www.risenfly.c...
Dubbing: Hareline dubbing light olive - amzn.to/2ZmshXA
Backing: 1/8" Scud Back summer duck - amzn.to/2ZmpLAt
Collar Dubbing: Peacock Ice Dub - amzn.to/3er6j9U
Head Cement - Loon Water Based Head Cement - amzn.to/2OiofZZ
Tools.....
Vise: Renzetti Traveler - amzn.to/2t2FFmo
Bobbin: Stonfo Bobtec - amzn.to/2YWOf39
Scissors: Dr. Slick all purpose - amzn.to/3fbLsZm
Whip finisher: Dr. Slick brass - amzn.to/2tGYwDW

I can attest to the quality of the flies you have tied for me personally. We caught six rainbows over 20” last May using the rainbow articulated streamer you created. Anyone interested in catching big trout needs to have that fly in their box. Thanks for the informative video. I wish I had the manual dexterity to tie flies but I know when to go to the expert when I need flies that work!

I got Loon's water based as a birthday gift once. I like it; it's like very thin paper glue that soaks in deep with no shine. Great for dull natural look and won't gum up hackle.

I got Rumpf head cement because my wapsi head cement glued itself shut and somehow the lid on my new head cement has shattered into 3 pieces for no real reason

Usually 1-6# for trout

M Cap If you want one rod for every situation a 5-6 wt will work. That weight should cast large streamers and poppers OK for bass if you keep the leader short and a 5 wt is perfect for trout. As you get into it you might want to add a lighter and heavier rod for specific species. Great to hear you’re getting into fly fishing. It’s a blast!

I agree with Bob, a 6wt should cover all your basis. However it won’t do dry flies as well as a say slow action 4wt, and it won’t cast large articulated streamers as well as a say fast action 8wt, but it will get you out there with the ability to do both. I say a 6wt because then when you love it, you can go and get an 8wt as well for the larger flies and a 4wt for the dries. Then all your basis are covered. Also a big welcome to the fishing community from me as well!! Always love to see new people

Moderate action 6wt I think, maybe moderate to fast action. Just none of the ultra fast 6wts.

McFly Angler Good point on the 6wt as the mid-way all purpose rod for just about all situations. You can always over line for shorter, more precise casting and still huk a streamer a fer piece.

You sounded a little desperate to talk up ur sponsor, just after saying you use firehole hooks for your online business, if they truly are great hooks stand behind them with your own products and support Risen seeing as they support you ! Sorry Sir about the comments but I did enjoy your vlog

Well no, so here is the deal. I absolutely love them. That is the truth. Absolutely great hooks. I use them for my own fishing, but not many people know about risen hooks. So when I say I use risen hooks, unless they are part of my channel, or have used them before, they don’t know about them. Their barbless hooks are as good as Firehole sticks. Much less expensive also. The other thing is they don’t have as wide of a variety of hook styles. Anyway. I wouldn’t say I was “desperate” to talk up my sponsor. Sorry if it sounded that way. I just didn’t know how to explain this. Haha! To be honest I actually do use their hooks for my own fishing. I do not like loosing flies tied with Firehole sticks as they cost me a lot! Haha!
