I use a pen tube with the refill removed to push over the eye against the deer hair and lock it in position with 2 or 3 thread wraps around the pen tube tip to lock the thread in place instead of whip finishing….two steps in one! I trim after this step! Then varnish! Interesting colour combo!

Best technique I have ever saw for trimming a small muddler head using a single pinch of deer hair. I have to tie this pattern up just to make some. They look to nice not too.😅🤣

Must try tie some Davie though I’m hopeless with deer hair on small hooks - too many thumbs . I have never seen anything like this fly - have never fished or tied muddlers😂thanks

Great muddler pattern, thanks for sharing Davie! Did you dye the deer hair yourself? Teal blue comes out quite dark I found, less dye in the bath I guess.

Hi David, No I didn't though I have dyed it in the past, this was a nice piece I found in the Glasgow Angling Centre a few years ago...I'm glad you liked the fly, it was a gentleman called Wullie Marr that originally tyed it.. All the very best Davie
