Tying The Angler Fish with Kelly Galloup

In this video Kelly will show you how to tie one of his favorite trigger style streamer patterns of all time: The Angler Fish. This fly has been a code cracker on those days when nothing else seems to be working, and has become a go-to pattern for us over the last several years. The actual angler fish lives in the deepest parts of the world’s oceans and uses a fleshy luminescent organ called the esca that they wiggle to imitate prey, which in turn lures the angler fish’s prey close enough for them to devour whole. It is this bright contrast of orange and sunburst yellow marabou in the tail that we believe elicits the strike from predatory fish, and we hope you enjoy the tutorial.

Great job on the angle -fish fly. I'm very impressed with it's profile and when I was a kid the lucky 66 was the best fly on the lake or River. I met the original maker of it's son. I tried to buy the original mold for it but he wouldn't part with it. Do -it molds has made it. I've got it and make it And it is my favorite lure in the tackle box. Your angular -fish reminds me of it a lot. Very nice fly well done 👍🎣🤠 Dave Hughes. I've been tying your's for a while now and it's a killer walleye , bass,. And stripped bass lure. In smaller sizes it's a great lure for panfish 8-10. Thanks for your time and knowledge.

I have a question why do some people put bees wax on there thread what does it do and does it really help that much to do so and why don't you use the bees wax or does the thread you use already have some sort of wax on it

When tying in your Marabou to Palmer it, is it better to tie it in by the shaft or by the tip. I've seen you do it both ways. Great videos very informative thank you very much keep them coming.

Derek, I beleive the proper way to tie them in is to tie it in by the tip but I found I can put more pressure on the hackle by going butt first and I really dont see any difference in the look so I switched to butt first. KG
