Kelly hello from Peter town! For more than 10 years I have been watching videos of different knitting masters. I came across your template just today. I am amazed at how much it gives a wide field for creativity. Amazing !!! Especially on the hooks of high numbers. With your light hand, I take it for myself. Thanks for the ideas. Sorry for my english and google translator. All the best!!!

Six years on, this video still offers received wisdom. Kelly - the peacock wing case can be enhanced beyond belief by adding a few (maybe a dozen) strands of Peacock Ice Dubbing. You're the Master, but trust me on this. This dubbing is a swine to control, but it's just about doable. I feed in at the strands from the corner of the packet, and ease it out as I cinch down. There are SO many flies that can be transformed for the better by Ice dubbing applied VERY sparingly.

I just picked up some wine colored thread and some more peacock. I really like tying my hares ears this way. The wing case shines and the burgundy colored thread makes a cool looking head. Thanks for the great ideas a great tying tips. I appreciate it. Super cool. Can't wait to fish these nymphs this season in wisconsin.

I been tying my hare's ear nymphs with peacock for a wing case since around 1985, I needed a few and I ran out of mottled turkey that I was using, by accident of making due- I found that the fly was more effective, I just caught more fish, I could have been that I just gotten more skilled at fishing a nymph. Dubbing loop is the way to go on these too, makes for a more durable segmented fly in my opinion, I once caught some 30 trout on a size 14 hare's ear in the course of the day, the fly was chewed up a bit but still fishable, my favorite nymph too! Simple and cheap to tie, and the materials are just so common!

Kelly, You mention at the beginning that you probably only need two colors of hares ear to cover all bases. Natural and olive or some other combo? I assume dark and light.

Kelly. Great videos. You mentioned adding UV ice dub as an enhancer in some of your other videos. Do you recommend adding some to the hares eat nymph? And how much do you blend in with the hares ear dubbing?

Great video! I am having a hard time figuring out what you use for tails on your brown and olive versions. Also do you use full hares masks for the brown and olive or premaid hares ear dubbing? Thanks in advance for any replies.
@TheSlideinn
@TheSlideinn 6 жыл бұрын
Jared, I use Hungarian partridge for the tails. I will use the dyed colors on the olive or brown but don't really think it matters. I prefer hares mask for the differing hair lengths, I tend to use the shorter ear hair a lot. on the one I tied I made it a little more long int eh thorax than I normally do (or at least it looks like it in the video) but I was trying to show the technique style. I generally make the thorax just slightly bigger than the abdomen and thats when I lookfor a little longer hair in the mask. Thanks for watching, KG

any reason why not splitting the thread for the dubbing loop find this much easier and less bulky.

I like your style of tying but it took me a long time to run in to you. When you are talking about your system to get the fly down is that a splitshot or something else?
@TheSlideinn

So Kelly, How small are you able to tie those hare's ears with the dubbing loop method? You mentioned baetis. I fish so many rivers that are home to small bugs.

use 8.0 instead of 6.0 or just counterwind your thread and divide it super easy..

Nice buggy fly. You mentioned how simple it was, yet it's an 8 or 9 minute fly with 2 dubbing loops. Methinks you and I have a bit different definition of simple. ;)
@joshhigdon4951

Chris Miller without tutoring, this is about a 3-4 minute fly off you're at your tying station pumping out quantities.
@MillerOutdoors1

Josh Higdon Beg to differ. I put out 15 to 30 dozen various flies per week, looking for all the efficiencies I can, and this fly with 2 dubbing loops is not a 4 minute fly. Tie one and time it. You'll see.

Wow, 2.5 sentences and you confirm for all the type of person you are. It is always nice when someone leaves and the area gets better just by their departure. It is even better when they publicly broadcast the appreciated exit.
