Hi Mitchell. You likely already know this, but when I figured it out, it fascinated me. This knot is the same as the diamond knot. Different hand positions, same outcome. This technique is much more comfortable than the typical diamond knot but requires much longer leading ends. And of course, there's also the fact that you make the sign of the cross several times in the process with this technique.

For my brothers and sisters learning this: It is going to take some time to be able to quickly and easily get the knot to look perfectly symmetrical. Just start making knots, maybe practice tying and untying on a small strand of thread. When you get comfortable, make a bracelet and keep doing that. To be able to do thus knot quickly takes lots of practice and patience. I've made 2 bracelets and a 50-knot prayer rope and only just started being able to tie one of these knots (and have it tight) in less than a few minutes. And even so, before I pull the loops through, sometimes it is wonky and lobsided, but that RESOLVES itself (usually) if you just patiently keep tightening different parts of the knot :) Don't worry about being perfect, just get going and get the practice and feel for it!

I'm sorry I took so long to reply, but I had trouble at that stage, too. I just wound up being very particular with how I held them on my fingers. If you still have tricks after that, you might try using stitch counters or baby pins. Close them around (not through!) the cord of the loop, and it should help you keep them separate if they fall again.

It's been years, but I want to say I started with about 10' (around 3m) of each color. I had a lot left over at the end, but it was better to be safe than to run short. I wish I could give you a per-knot number; I did 50 knots for this one, which would be 2-3 inches per knot if I'd used all my cord.

@-Ravenscroft-5 жыл бұрын
Use a lot more cord than you think you need, because at the end of all your knots, however many you make, you're going to put the two ends together. I like to leave between 18"-36" of extra cord before my first knot, and the same or more after the last one. Bring both ends together, making a loop of your knots, and then use them to tie one big SUPERKNOT with all the cords of both ends (should be 4 cords this time! Starting position should be doubled!) This knot is just like the ones you've been making, except it's huge-mongous and made of four cords. Otherwise, just proceed like you have been. After that, leave a few inches to fray into a tassel, or to tie to a pre-made tassel, and cut the rest off.

I can't speak with certainty, as I haven't made specifically a rosary with this method before, but when I made the rope I made, I merged the two ends with another knot exactly like the others, just with both sets of strands. As for the cross, I would use a method similar to the method used with cord rosaries, personally, consisting of between 4-5 knots.
