Great videos that are helping me a lot. Good teacher !! By the way, what do you have on your finger to put the thread?Thanks👏👏👍👉
@DavieMcPhail4 жыл бұрын
Hi Chus, It's a small piece of wax for the thread which helps give you grip when needed especially when tying the hackle and wing on..I'm glad the videos have helped you and thanks for the kind words.. All the very best Davie

Followed you're wax video when I put mine on my hand still to hard to wax thread
@steveg83224 жыл бұрын
I use a tube of archer's wax, it's meant to wax bowstrings to keep them pliable when shooting. I'm not the most fastidious tier,but it meets my needs,tube just rests on the table til needed, no mess.
@quincym-e46804 жыл бұрын
@@steveg8322 I'll keep that in mind , just checked veniard do liquid wax going to pop down my local and try that
@DavieMcPhail4 жыл бұрын
Hi Quincy M-e, I really work the wax between my fingers to make it really soft and tacky but make it as thin as you can as the warmth from your finger will keep it usable rather than being too hard to use.. All the very best Davie
@quincym-e46804 жыл бұрын
@@DavieMcPhail I'll give it another go having on your finger is alot more convenient and less hassle losing every 2 mins lol
@callumclark33584 жыл бұрын
@@steveg8322 Yes, I think for most amateurs there's no need to get too obsessive about what wax to use. At present I keep an old tin of jacket wax on my bench. More or less does the job. Should see me out, being in my sixties. If not I've got a tin of dubbin in the shed. I still have the hard Veniards wax I got nearly 50 years ago, and some cobblers wax, but I don't use them very often. That said, for tying lots of flies at speed Davie's method is the way forward.
