Tying the Grey boy buzzer fly

Early season buzzers are big and so is this pattern . A top point fly for straight line buzzer fishing when you want those flies to get deep .
Hook : Kamasan B110
Thread : Black 8/0
Rib : White / Cream Spanflex
Wing buds : Orange goose biots
Thorax : #14 Uni Mylar
Finish : Sally Hansons hard as nails

Hi Tim, thanks for the video and a killer still water pattern. As an alternative to Sally Hanson. You should try Solarez uv cure resin. It works well for me. Cheers Mike Robinson

Hi Dave . Have a look at Fly box they do a decent range of Spanflex / Flexi floss and some nicely dyed biots . Also Funky fly tying .

Nice buzzer Tim would you fish it with a Di3 or Di5 and a slow figure of eight retrieve

Hi Rob . Buzzers , usually I will fish on a floating line or a tip line . It enables best presentation . The trick with buzzers is to fish them a slow to static as you can . With a DI line it sinks to quickly and means it needs to be retrieved and moved.. which isnt a great way of presenting a buzzer . If we can get out in March and April I will film a vid of how to fish buzzers from a boat and in deeper water .

There really is no limit to the Variations on the theme with this buzzer . This is my favourite though as its the closest to the naturel . Definitely worth playing around with different Goose biots , sunburst is great and white can be good . Using a red or orange spanflex gives you more of a blood worm pattern ideal for deep fishing .

@@daveramsey100 Spanflex is also sold as flexi floss now days .. its essentially the same stuff and will have the same results when tying .

Looks like a superbly tied fish catching buzzer Tim. I guess you are too busy to offer flies for private sale as I don't tie my own due to poor peepers! If you do I would love to buy a selection of early season buzzers suitable for small water trout fishing?

Hi Tim It’s me Bob again, looking at purchasing 4 wychwood connect fly lines, but looking at them they are 120 ft long. I’ve had trouble with other fly lines being too big to fit on my reels. Do you cut them down? I can’t cast a full fly line out anyway. What would you recommend? Some advice would be more than welcome. Cheers Bob🎣🎣🎣

They fit easily on any modern reel .. i.e that isnt 20 years old . Also it needs to be a reel rated for the lines i.e 7/8 wt for a 7wt line . Theres plenty of room and some backing too . I never cut my lines down . If you need to do this it wont alter the way the line fishes .. obviously cutting away from the reel end not the head ! ..

@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 Hi Tim, Thanks for that info, my reels are 6/7 and I always use #7 lines. I had an Airflo 40+ and it wouldn’t go on my reel properly even with minimum backing. So maybe chop off 30ft from the running line will do the job. Cheers Tim.👍👍👍🎣🎣🎣
