That's a great looking little fly! I'll have to make a couple and try them out. As always, thank you!

tasty bug Matt. On peacock bodies I usually leave the thread tag and and twist it and the herl together before wrapping the body. Good idea on the bright egg sack, subtle hot spot. Thanks Matt, have a good one.

Good morning Matt. ☕️. Interesting variation of the caddis. The caddis has produced well for me so far this season. I’ve not seen that variation but just within the guys I fish with we’ve had about 4 or 5 different variations but only one seemed to be “the one”. 😀. Enjoy the rest of your week and have a great weekend. I’m headed out for some Lake Trout fishing today.

Good looking fly. You can also add the same egglayer ball to regular elk hair caddis as a variant. That green ball would work quite nicely on the Penobscot especially if you pull the fly under water at the end of the drift. It mimics a diving caddis.

Great note and you're spot on! In fact, when using this the last time out, I got a few fish at the end of the drift when pulling the line tight getting ready for the next cast. The tension pulled the fly just a couple inches under the surface and bam, they came up 3-4 feet for it. After the first time that happened (surprising me), I started doing it on purpose and it was a great tactic. :-)

@4:38 - I actually pre cut my deer hair like Kelly Galloup suggests, that way when you put the wraps you don't have a mess of hair you are trying to trim and make look neat

Hi Matt, as always very nice pattern. I made a similar version and for imitate the eggsack I used a colored glass bead. Effect, the butt sinks a little bit in the water level and the glittering of the pearl is a additional attraction. Regards.

Just fished the foam wing Caddis you had on the channel a while back. It slayed brook trout and cutthroats in Colorado’s Sangre de Cristos. Thanks for the pattern.

Outstanding to hear! I love that little foam wing guy too. Since sulphur season has ended here in Maryland, I've been fishing a lot of caddis patterns lately. And I haven't been skunked in a while. :-)

Hold off a day Tom and try Wednesday's pattern. It's similar but has a full body of chartreuse. And it worked pretty well for me on the Gunpowder last weekend. :-)

I have had good luck with caddis patterns with a collar hackle....especially the Chuck caddis i first tried after seeing it tied here. I'm not surprised the herl body caddis worked for you. I have had luck with a caddis pattern I found that has a herl and floss body like a royal coachmen tied on a curved caddis hook.....I call it my "Last chance caddis" as it has saved more than one day, especially at dusk.
@SavageFlies
@SavageFlies Ай бұрын
Great note Kevin! There's some other pattern called the Last Chance "something" but I forget what exactly it is. But I agree. In fact, tomorrow's fly is another caddis with a collar hackle. And it did pretty well for me last weekend too. :-)
