I can't thank you enough for making these videos! Your tying videos are basically tying classes. It's amazing for a new person!

Kelly, This fly saved my trip to Central PA this past weekend. They were all over the size 14 in black on a curved scud hook.. The naturals were all over the trees and the fish were waiting for them to fall in. THANK YOU.!

I absolutely love your videos. No one I'd rather watch. Love the stories, the explanations and especially your interactions with your crew. Great stuff. Keep it up.

Love your style, approach and knowledge. Of the thousands of flies I've tied, never even thought about adding a bead to an ant pattern! Tomorrow for sure. Everybody stay safe!

When everything here shut down, I started tying a ton of flies, and came across this video, and admittedly I didn't have any in my box, so naturally I tied a bunch up. Then my local river closed.. but it opened again yesterday. Well, I caught my biggest rainbow on a fly with this pattern. Cheers from Vancouver Island!

I always try ants in streams. Never thought about trying a sunk ant in still water. Those big carpenter hatches are so fun. Thanks Kelly, nice looking pattern.

On Colorado's beautiful Crystal River last summer there was a bunch of nice rainbows sipping emergers in the slack water on the other side of a powerful central current. Although I came up with a kind of pre-mended roll cast to slow my fly down, it was still drifting much faster than was natural. Nonetheless, one rainbow caught sight of my clumsy beginning tier's sunk ant pattern whizzing by and aggressively chased it down for a take. That was when I realized just how much trout favor ants.

Thanks Kelly for great tip on ant pattern. I tied some up and killed it back east on Yellow Breeches PA.. 👍👍

I agree with you... having ant patterns in your box is a MUST. Have you ever tried using Acetate Floss for the bodies (dipped in Acetone, then 1 wrap of soft hackle). They work exceptional well down here on the San Juan (size 14-20). At the beginning of the monsoon season (early July), right after the first big gully washer storm, a lot of ants get flushed into the river, and the trout go braindead crazy for them. It sure beats size 22 or 24 midges... We tell the Texans it is the Ant Hatch.

I have been using your Ant-acid in Texas since the video awhile back, but only when I want to catch fish.🙂 Perch and small bass just can’t resist them! These look great..I’ll be tying some up today and trying them on some stocker trout🎣.👍👍 Thanks as always! Best wishes.

just found this video, I want you to know that when I have tried what I think should be working and it doesn't produce I tie on an ant and it has worked time and time again. Was stumped on my small creek/river in E Washington State two weeks ago and tied on an ant, bam 2 nice 12" Cutty's within 5 min. Ants are a secret weapon. Using a 3 Wt in calf deep water. Was fishing the seam when I caught the fish.

Hi, I just took a peek out of my "cave" and noticed this in my mail. Awesome tutorial Kelly! Ants have saved the day for me many times. The dubbed bodies eventually sink so I haven't tied them like you just did but I now will, plain jane and sexy too! Thanks, stay safe and healthy.

I don't get the excitement over epoxy flies, or the dis you just made. Once they are in the water, if the epoxy or the UV resin is clear, the coating disappears,

Thank you so much for doing this right now! They closed all fishing in WA, so tying is all I can do right now. I had a day during high water where every fish I caught was puking ants and earthworms. Was kind of a eye opener, like duh, put the raggedy Ann and Andy lure away and catch some fish.

Awesome and much overlooked pattern. Just wondering where I can pickup one of those St. Kelly pictures. I’d like one to keep in my fishing vest..... it might bring me some luck. I’m a respiratory therapist , and could use it.

I am enjoying the Corona series. I have a request, if you were to bug out, what would your fishing gear bag contain? Rod and weight, WF or other, top 20 flies in various sizes, best or pack, wet wade or waders, and apparel. Location is somewhere in US perhaps not by choice. Just an idea is all. Thanks again for all you folks do for us.

I fish ants (hopper-dropper) whenever there is no specific hatch happening with excellent results. They must taste good to the fish as they always seem to be on the menu. I like starling feathers for legs on the smaller (16 & 18) sizes. Cheers and stay safe!
@cjanderson664 жыл бұрын
Hey Kelly, Would Loose Plumage Pheasant CAthedral feathers work as an alternative for the legs on this one? I have a bag of these. I was in your shop in August and wanted to say hi but your were busy talking it up with a couple from the park. Super nice shop you got there can't wait till August to come back and say hi this time. Fished the Madison just below your shop and never even thought about tying one of these on... Thanks again for the great video during CVSIP

Had a ant hatch ( freakin' storm!) here last year that was so thick, even the seagulls got in on the feast. You don't realize just how many fish are in a river until something like that happens.

Thanks for these flies, 2025 is going to be all ants for me, nothing else. Well nothing else if it works. Part of the reason is that they are small, and I am experimenting with the idea of fishing only really small flies to reduce the damage to the trout. But the other reason I am going to fish them is their reputation. I went to the Letort, a long time ago, and the only trout I caught was on a 24 ant. I heard this story about a guy on the Banefish Flats, a legendary angler, who was after this hatch working trout. He fought the good fight, and a crowd gathered as he chased it off down river. Finally, our reporter, heard a cheer go up, and when the report came in, the only way he caught the fish was to switch to an ant...

MONEY!!!🤘🏻 Ok....just to clarify something, we are to send one pattern of each: terrestrial, streamer, and dry(each in two sizes)? Sorry but Daddy only left me his brawn😁 and fishing gear when he passed a couple years ago. **Nevermind...sending my flies today

Spent 2 days on central PA limetoners numphing inchworm/ant then Baby Chubby Chernobyl w/ ant dropper. Guess which worked massively better? I'd catch anther brown and say to myself, "Why fish anything else?"

This fly really works, cheap thread and a cheap hackle.....fish eat it real good. I tie the original as shown because I always give them away to people who ask what fly am I using.....even if it's something else. I doubt the fish takes the fly for what we think it represents half the time. Who knows.
