Allen has a peabrain when the pressure is on. This is the same decision making that leads to his terrible interceptions. They were smashing the KC defense all night with a methodical offensive attack. He gets on the edge of the red zone with 2:00 minutes and instead of grinding that wilting defense into the ground and pounding out the win or a field goal from the 10 yard line, the bills start taking end zone shots from 30 yards out. It was a horrible sequence and the color guy was making excuses for it. Allen made a terrible throw on one of the attempts and the commentator was saying he got hit when he didn’t. Just a cluster of a way to end the game.

Agreed, he wasn’t smart to milk the clock so the Bills score last with a FG or touchdown. He should’ve thrown the crossing route and that would’ve pretty guaranteed a FG that close for Bass. Josh Allen is a double edged sword

The big question is why would you call 2 passing plays in this situation? You run, ideally with plays designed for Allen. Burn time off the clock, force KC to use timeouts and hope you get a 1st down. If not, you kick an easier field goal after chewing the clock and leaving KC without timeouts. If you get a 1st down you just keep running and, if force to, you kick a field goal to end regulation time. This is at least the 2nd time McDermott has done this - other time was in the loss to the Eagles.

This is super simple to say in hindsight, but no coach who believes in his QB and team, especially in a playoff game, takes this approach. You play to win the game period. Playing conservative and running the ball to tie the game probably gives Mahomes the ball back with at least some time to work, which is a similar scenario to a couple years back when the Bills lost to the Cheifs while giving Mahomes the ball back with under a minute remaining.

I disagree about going to Diggs underneath (on 2nd down, you’re right about the 3rd down play)…he had that guy wide in the end zone. He and any other starting qb complete that pass 90% of the time. Chris Jones pushing the lineman into him at the exact moment of his release made all the difference, it seems.

The 1st pass here by Allen was a good one. First off no one knows here what the 1st read is. 2nd, the guy was open in the end zone n it was thrown well, but Jones bumped Allen just as he was releasing the ball. The 2nd bad throw is more questionable but Allen lost him because he was rolling right n looking right.

Yes, the Bills missed that FG but they also screwed up many things over. You left out that Fake Punt attempt that made the team look like buffoons, giving the Chiefs the ball deep into their own territory. If it wasn't for the refs bailing the Bills out calling that Chiefs player to fumble the ball at the goal line, the game should have been iced then and there. The play you showed at 0:28 was a big one. The underneath receivers were open to get a 1st down catch but Josh Allen wanted the big glory and threw for the deeper touchdown attempt. He *saw* the underneath receivers were wide open, but he wanted the deeper pass for a TD. Holds the ball longer and his own lineman gets knocked into him, disrupting the pass. Unfortunately the kicker is going to get all the blame, just like what happened to Scott Norwood in 1991.

Josh Allen spazzed at the end of the game and the OC cramped up mentally. KC was having a horrible time stopping the run. Buffalo completely abandoned it on the edge of the red zone with 2 minutes to play. Allen instead started taking shots at the end zone from 30 yards out, he missed throws and the rest is history.
