Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro has been named the 2021-22 Kia NBA Sixth Man of the Year for his contributions in a reserve role. This is the first Sixth Man honor for Herro, who becomes the first player to win the annual award with the Heat.

Can't remember exactly when Herro got on my radar. He was in HS. Taking free throws while his opponents' fans would chant: "Over RATED!" over and over. He would just stand there and ice those freebies. Then blow kisses. lol Decided I liked him and followed his one and done at Kentucky. Was glad he went to Miami. Riley knows talent and Butler's a badazz. Love his game. He plays below the rim alot. He needs to bulk up a little, but then again he's not taking alot of contact. Definitely deserving the 6th man award. The Heat trust him to take big shots. He'll get a couple chips before he's done. All the best from New Zealand. 👍🏀 🇳🇿

A few salty Warriors fans but let's not act like Poole didn't start half the season 🤔. Poole was arguably robbed of top MIP consideration but no way was he the 6th man this year. Tyler has been the epitome of a true 6th man ALL year. It wasn't even close.

Poole wasn't robbed of MIP, he didn't make the best improvement of the season lmfao. Garland and Dejounte did. However I will say that ever since the playoffs started, Poole made major improvements once more. But that shouldn't be counted for regular season awards.

It might be because Herro as a ‘bench player’ played 3.6 minutes more per game than a guy who started half the season in Poole. Not saying they made a wrong choice, just interesting that a guy who plays starter minutes gets an award dedicated for the usual 20-25 minute bench contributors.

@@Haybud All 6MOTY Winners all played starter minutes. Look at Manu from the Spurs back being a core player. Louis Williams used to lead his team in scoring while coming off the bench. You think he'd be able to do that without playing starter minutes? Louis Williams literally won the award multiple times for it. Heck James Harden was also a core part of the Big 3 in OKC while coming off the bench. Jamal Crawford and Jordan Clarkson both played and is playing respectively a hella lot of minutes for their teams. That has always been the case for 6MOTY. Also that take is stupid as fuck, why should minutes matter anyway? If you come from the bench, then you're a bench. It's as simple as that. In the case for Tyler Herro, the starters are all getting their minutes. So if Herro is still getting a lot of minutes then it just means that Herro is way way better than the bench. Then it's just the other bench players who are missing minutes not the starters, and therefore still makes him a bench player.
