Living in a singlewide, my son (maybe 20, a musician himself) was in his b/r, l was on the pc playing this track. The middle part, singing 'out there so far away' etc., l was whistling along with the strings. Walls being very thin, he comes out of the bedroom, mouth open, said "How are you doing that?" l said "When you've been listening to this for 25 years, you pick up on stuff! We both laughed !

Can't wait to see your reaction on Mr Blue Sky, but then you have to listen to all 4 songs with headphones on and really pay attention to the lyrics to get the whole story Jeff's telling in the Concerto. It's quite moving.

You need to do yourselves a favor and react to the opening track of the "A New World Record" album: "Tightrope" this song totally blew me away and sold me on the ELO sound. It is absolutely criminal that it was never released as a single.

As a huge ELO fan I can absolutely say that Trans-Siberian Orchestra are AWESOME! As for ELO, they have always been at their core a mix of symphonic "Beatle-esqueness" & 50's Rock & Roll. Here there is a strong sense of that early rock, "Sha-la-la" vocal backing from that 50's country-rock vibe.

"Concerto for a rainy day" is like a velvet drawstring bag with one string being the orchestration at the beginning of " standing in the rain" and the other pull string is the grand finale orchestration of "Mr blue sky" and in said velvet bag are four beautiful but different gems, taken out individually "fantastic beautiful, delightful" but for different reasons, then listen to them all together they become greater than the some of their parts. Simply magic.

Do *NOT* use the music video for, *"Mr. Blue Sky",* as they cut the song short. Instead use the original studio version from the album, Out of The Blue. The full-length song is 5 minutes & 5 seconds. Normally I don't recommend doing videos on songs you've already heard, but in this case because, *"Mr. Blue Sky",* closes out the Concerto For A Rainy Day, I think you should do it. Especially because there's a distinct possibility that either one or both of you have never heard the entire song. So yes, bring on, *"Mr. Blue Sky"!*

Ye shalt heed the Words of the COSMO, as he speakes the TRuth. Furthermore, I'd suggest to listen to the three preceding songs again, off-camera, just before doing MBS, as you will understand that "cool sound effect" you heard at the end here, and hopefully also get why and how MBS fits into the Concerto For A Rainy Day. Also, MBS isn't really the happiest song in the world. It is the happiest song that most of the world knows of, but the happiest song actually is also from Out Of The Blue (where else could it come from?), just a little earlier. It's called _Jungle_ - and the odd rythms at one point on _Summer and Lightning_ are an echo or a little reprise of that. Next after _Jungle_ do _Midnight Blue_ (from 1979 Discovery). And move the camera!

Great choice, love this track - that end bit with the radio sound leads straight into 'Mr Blue Sky'... like I said... do 'Tightrope. Also... in a different band direction, check out 'Twilight' from their album 'Time'!

I would suggest listening to this whole Concerto in headphones. Your missing so much of the instrumentation Just amazing. Yes complete it with Mr Blue Sky you have to complete the concerto to get the whole feel of it. The long version is the version that is on this side to complete the concerto.

Mr. Blue Sky is the fourth and final part of the concerto. Jeff Lynne wrote all of if while in Germany where it rained for days. He was getting depressed until the rain finally and he wrote you guessed it Mr. Blue Sky 😁

ELO + TSO - Absolutely. They both weave classical elements (whole songs at times) into modern creations. Check out Wish Liszt and many others. PS - You can find the elements of that song in Tom and Jerry Cartoons (Franz Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsodies).

Oh, just rewatching this... FYI regarding _Strange Magic_ - if you _can't get it out of your head_ then you must listen to _Can't Get It Out Of My Head_ from the 1974 album Eldorado (A Symphony By The Electric Light Orchestra) (to give its full title. Then _Strange Magic_ will get out of your head, and instead you can't get _Can't Get It Out Of My Head_ out of your head... (Actually the only trick that really works with ELO songs is to get _all_ the songs into your head, at once, and let them stay. After 40+ years of listening, I now have a mental Wurlitzer UFO/Jukebox flying around in my head, ready to play any ELO song at any time. If I get another 40 years, I guess I'll be able to "play" them backwards as well, and listen to all the Secret Messages...)

This track is my personal favourite from the Out of the Blue Album, pure class and yet again Jeff Lynne at his very best. This man is a Rock Legend, would love to hear this track at a concert it would be unbelievable 👍😍!!!!!!
