Thank you for not waiting till the end of the video to show underwater footage. So many other creators fill their versions of this kind of video with random somewhat related footage to get to that 10 minute mark. All the non-underwater footage you showed was actually relevant and entertaining. Thank you my dude~

I use half a night crawler on a small bait holder hook to catch bluegill and redear. Recently i caught 14 of them and they were all 2 lb. average.
@awkwardme53755 жыл бұрын
The stubborn fish on the bed with the long black ear spot is a redbreast sunfish. The one you caught is a bluegill. You can differentiate the bluegill from redear sunfish by the black spot on the dorsal and anal fins, and the lack of the red ear spot. The longear sunfish has white trim around the black ear spot, while the redbreast, bluegill, and redear don't. Redbreast has the longest ear spot, and a brighter belly. At 7:48 the fish that enters from the left is a longear sunfish. You can also see the spawning aggression between the different species in the footage, and it's pretty neat to see several species of panfish all residing in the same small area. Cool video.

6:07 That's an odd looking one. Hybrid? Looks more bluegill, but could have redbreast mixed in. Redbreast usually have reddish eyes. Looks like some green sunfish in there, too. They are more elongated. ADDED: Going back and rewatching the underwater footage earlier in the video, I did notice some redbreast sunfish bedding and swimming around.

Tyler, The first fish you filmed was a Red Breasted sunfish (Lepomis Auritus), the one you caught was indeed a bluegill (Lepomis machrochyrus) and most of the small fish darting into the nest after eggs with the bright blue lines on their face look to be juvenile Dollar Sunfish (Lepomis marginatus). I have caught thousands of sunfish over the years with the Pumpkinseed being the only one I have yet to catch since I live in the South. By far the best bait is a simple piece of white grub just a tad longer than the hook on a 1/32 oz or smaller jig head. My father and I caught 42 this week and I caught all of mine on this simple white jig.
@ultragoldcoin87807 жыл бұрын
bravohuey wax worms and slim Jim's are the best bait in my opinion along with good bait like nightcrawlers, Berkeley glup alive and hotdog.
@bravohuey7 жыл бұрын
Maybe, but I beat dad 3 to1 with artificials last time he brought worms. Now he's hooked on the tiny plastics for bedding bream. My friend and I caught and released 600 sunfish of multiple species in a single day using nothing but tiny plastics just to see how many we could catch. Plus plastics are a lot less messy!

Thanks guys for all the replies. Another question, what is a good size Bluegill to do a catch and cook for my channel? I have never used night crawlers for Bluegill but it sounds like it would work. I mainly use a beetle spin and have caught some 6-8 inch Bluegills. Try a beetle spin they work and I might have to try the night crawler. Thanks ;)

You have to invest in an ultra light combo. It seems silly in texas, but often times big bass eat tiny forage like insects and 1-2 inch minnows. There is nothing like catching big bass an 4lb test. It is one way to really go finesse and fish something no one else is fishing.

Hey man! Been watching a lot of your videos lately and I got a request. Any chance you can do a fishing video regarding fishing scents/attractants for bass? I'm particularly curious about using trout-flavored scents on soft plastic Huddlestons. I see some guys not bothering with the scent, and other guys actually let their baits marinate in pro-cure trout scent for several days before an outing. Rather than rely on the old GOAT's around the docks, I'd love to see how the bass react to baits with scent, baits without scent, and baits treated with different scents available on the market (Pro-Cure, Trout Potion, etc.).

When they nest like that, they wont take artificials or bait that is further away from them. Just stick a big worm in his face and he'll suck it up. Same with any other bait but worms are the best. (Edit) at 11:17 when you stuck it in his face he took it because it was closer. They cannot move from the bed.

Green sunfish will eat it even if they’re bedding. Redbreast sunfish and green sunfish are the most aggressive. And the proper way is to lip them usually. If you can! 🤣 And that was a bluegill.

Try a salmon egg. If used with an egg hook, you're more likely to get some smaller ones but if you upsize just a tad and put on two eggs, you'll get some bigger ones. I catch them accidentally when fishing for Rainbow Trout all the time. If you find a submerged tree stump or other cover where, like rocks or next to a boat ramp, just put a salmon egg on and you will see a bunch of Bluegills come out to take a look and try to steal it. Works best when water has somewhat decent visibility as they are going based on sight.
@AnglerOutdoors7 жыл бұрын
Fly fishing nymphs always work good for me. Put one under a small bobber it should work. Also for picky bluegill smaller is better. Size 12-16 nymphs are the best.
