I have really enjoyed watching the works that you and Burto have been doing on the 80 series landcruiser. Always interesting and informative as well and the relaxed presentation with no one screaming information at the viewer like other channels makes it a must watch, my wife even enjoys watching. Burto, is a very skilled mechanic and a funny guy. Have a great Christmas break and new year.

@taranis616Ай бұрын
Unless you have manual locking hubs an 80 is permanent 4wd. What you’re describing is the Centre diff lock not working. This does not engage 4wd, it simply locks the centre diff ensuring there is drive across diagonals front to rear.

Those axle flanges shouldn’t be hit with a hammer directly it flares them then they come loose and snap studs. Also went in a bit premature with locking down the pinion you may need to move the pinion up or down for the contact tooth patch

I'm sure you know those flange studs will fail. I usually up grade them to 105 series studs, drill and tape them in my milling machine.
@chrisbainrot5731Ай бұрын
Have you also considered the rear axle 10mm stud upgrade as well. This will be your next week point if you’re abusing the car or pushing hard off-road.

Get another oil cooler for the auto. Those radiator ones always leak and cause a milkshake and stuff the gearbox. I've had Fords for 30yrs so seen a few go. Lol

Tyler, for goodness sake get your mate a hoist. Poor bloke!
@brianwalker1933Ай бұрын
Yeah, tens of thousands of dollars spent on modifications to vehicles and still crouching underneath vehicles and crawling about on concrete. That's doing it tough for Burto. Tyler's got the easy job, filming it all.
@dpd6401Ай бұрын
Agree mate. I’m sure a company would like to see their hoist product there and its installation would make an interesting episode.
@colinfwaltersАй бұрын
Tyler has by far the more difficult job as creator, filmmaker, producer, director and financer of this channel. Burtos skills are indeed impressive but would be totally unknown and unacknowledged without Tyler’s efforts to bring this channel up to 100k subscribers over many years. Burto has the easy job.
@TylerThompson90Ай бұрын
A hoist would be great but it’s a rental property and the concrete is not thick enough, we are not allowed to add concrete and a hoist and would be a lot of money when we are moving hopefully soon anyway. I am trying to save up enough money to buy my own property and then build a proper shed. funds are not unlimited, I’ve spent 10’s of thousands of dollars building up tools and equipment we currently have and I have to prioritize where I spend money, a hoist is not an absolute necessity and people enjoy seeing what you can do without a hoist. i also do not ‘have the easy job filming’, Burto gets to come do a days work and go home of a night and weekends and do what he wants, I run a business 7 days a week, i film when Burto is there then I spend my nights and weekends editing, emails, sponsorships, organise builds and parts, trips, being a partner and father to 4 children. Try put out a KZbin video every single week of the year and tell me how much time you have. I work 50-70 hours a week and I never ever stop, constantly pushing myself. paying Burto a very good wage to do mechanical work that he is good at and I do not have the time to do it all does not make me lazy like people always seem to think. he also gets paid to come on trips and gets to take his time doing cool builds and work his own hours, he is much happier then he was in an 8-5 mechanic shop doing brakes and wheel alignments and oil changes, let me tell you that. I can not do every single thing myself. I think people need to get a little more information before they go judging. Burto does the mechanic work he gets paid to do, that is how life works. He's not a 'mate I am slaving away in my shed all day for free'.

that's not how crush sleeves work, all they do is give the pinion nut something to tighten against when setting preload. the pinion can't go forward and crush the sleeve as it can't push the rear pinion bearing forward, the pinion can't be pushed back by something hitting the flange either as the front pinion bearing stops that. the only advantages of a solid pinion spacer are you can tighten the pinion nut as solid as you like without changing bearing preload and you can change a pinion seal without needing to set the pinion bearing preload or replace the crush sleeve which should only be used once.
@Thesilverrat29 күн бұрын
Dam bro, my mate from Scotland makes more sense that this Aussie bloke.
@jasgapАй бұрын
80s have a bigger ring and pinion than GUs also they are full float, IMO stronger than Patrols, the front diff is a POS, specially in reverse, since the front diff is high pinion, you can only match a GU and an 80 diff 4.88 ratio, the next number up for 80s is 5.29 vs Patrol that has 5.38
@thebeerhunter817Ай бұрын
Full float? Oh you mean the axles. That's not really an advantage patrol axles are more than up to the task and no wheel bearing maintenance to do as a bonus.
@jasgapАй бұрын
@ Full-float axles bolt to a spindle, which l drives the wheels. They can also be removed with the wheel on the vehicle, they are stronger because they don’t carry the vehicle load.
@darcykeddell4930Ай бұрын
@@jasgap stronger except the axles are only as strong as the axle studs which are tiny
@thebeerhunter81729 күн бұрын
@jasgap nah not stronger at all. Studs snap all the time and look at a patrol axle its a lot bigger as it needs to carry the weight.
