I’ve watched most of this build series so can see why you chose this project. From a monetary perspective I hope you recover your costs and some. I classify this as a You Tube only project as for most of us it is not practical with these costs. Entertaining though and you now have a lot of IP for the next adventure which is building your channel nicely. Your honesty about your rational to this approach is refreshing. Nice to see you leave your ego at the front door and credit Burto for his valuable contribution. Great channel fellas keep it up.

Yeah it's hard to calculate exactly whether I end up in front financially with the investment but I think from an overall perspective it's definitely been worth it for the channel. It probably cost me/the business 110K-120Kish area but then that investment is a tax write off, spread out over 2 years etc there is a lot of things to factor in. Anyways cheers mate!

Well done guys on the build. I have done 2 Barra conversions and they are no easy task. Regardless of what you would have built, some people are always going to have an issue. Ask them for their channel link so you can watch them spend their own cash 😂. Your life, your build 👍

Kind of proves the old addage, sometimes the enjoyment is in the journey, not the destination. Great episode and great work Tyler, Burto and Demi (we didn't see a lot of Demi in the build episodes so it was interesting to see here in some of the clips in this video)! We look forward to seeing how it goes on a trip. You both went well and truly out of your comfort zones which is why the content is so interesting and worth the watch!

While I like to keep my 80 Series OE as much as possible (particularly it's engine, gearbox, drivetrain & running gear etc), I do like this build. And the end-result is fantastic. One of the best 80 in Oz, I reckon. And it's an 80 Series that I'd happily park in my garage next to my '96 factory OE 80.

What a great video Tyler. It was fabulous to listen to both of you guys go through the technical parts of this build and discuss the criticism from commentors. I really appreciated hearing Burto's serious side...a true gentleman and tradesman...it was refreshing to watch how well both of you guys compliment each other. Well done guys. i especially like the "mall crawler question" made my day that did ^_^ May i also add...my mouth was struggling to open wide enough as Burto began adding up the costs...oh wow!!!!

As you said you built the car for content, & you got great content, & views. I live in Cairns, & my kids live in Adelaide. I drive to Adelaide once a yr sometimes via Tennant Creek NT. Via NSW I do it in 3 days 3,200kms via NT 4,500kms in 4 days. I now drive a Barra Territory, & on the HWY I get 12lit per 100kms. It’s a fantastic motor with the 6 speed auto. That car has RTT, Fridge, Drawers etc etc. I know that if I breakdown I can get parts at any wreckers or Repco in Australia.

I have to disagree with the reliability side of things in view of FtE and this includes the fuel economy. A gearbox conversion to the later model Toyota gearboxes would prove to give much better fuel economy open rd. I absolutely get the content side of things and agree it made for a fantastic viewing of which I enjoined immensely. Well done on the build and it is now a very tidy 80 and conversion. Treated right I'm sure you get the reliability you expect. NOTE: A 4.5 Toyota V8 conversion would have been interesting 😊 Well done guys.

Nope. The German ZF 6 speed is a superb gearbox and has a lock up torque converter that locks up @ very low speeds, eg 50kmh. You will not improve on it. I own 2.

I enjoyed the show, well done folks. Fun cost‘s. For comparison: 2025 Toyota’s top model Land Cruiser LC300 Sahara ZX (4X4) 147.000 AUD… With full guarantee, spare parts and an acceptable fuel (diesel) consumption… Yes, it’s only for the show. Because who wants to ruin this investment in an off-rod environment?…

I put a 6.2 diesel into an old shorty MQ patrol. With the help of a mechanic. It was a weapon. Better on fuel than the old 3.3 diesel. Much lighter engine than the old straight six also. Car handled beautifully. The power output was amazing. Heaps or torque. But i broke two gearboxes. It was getting way too expensive. And the cost of conversion nearly made me faint. It was a very cool project, but I’ll never do a conversion again.

Looks good, everyone has thoughts, inrelation to diesel/petrol, you can always justify why we have, diesel has high torque at low rpm, which is an advantage off road and towing. Sort of explains why trucks and earth moving machinery are diesel. There are plug and play looms available, guys like Jim from side show performance wiring or Mick Wallin who trades as fte mick.

I think I would have had 10 beers before I added up the cost in order to be prepared for that final number. 💸💸💸💸😳 You are talking 2024 Toyota Landcruiser LC300 GR Sport with a few extras money which I know because I have one. In Saying that I get where you are coming from, its content and content pays the bills with hopefully something left over. You are also extremely fortunate to have that little genius by your side (and I don’t mean Demi). Not giving him any ideas but he could do this full time and I would certainly watch. The man is one in a million. Anyway, enjoy the new rig as I am sure you will. Wishing you every success in the future and Happy 2025 to you all….🎉🎉🎉🎊🥳🎈🍾🍾🥂🍹🍺🍻🍺

Hey Tyler, genuine question - the general consensus is that Landcruisers have great engines but the driveline has some weaknesses if getting abused in extreme 4x4 situations. Patrols are the opposite. So why engine swap a Landcruiser instead of a Patrol? Cheers mate
