Love how GME run an 80 series and not 200/79 series like most other companies in the industry.

That would be a $30K+ engine now days. Imported half cuts with the FTE and 200,000km are now mid $20k

Great vid TT, usually Id be bitchin and carrying on about the Toyota being 💩, but this one was a nice one and set up, well done Tony. 👍 Tony just one last thing, great idea with the 2 x UHFs, although was hoping to see where the GME TX840 AM/SSB CB is hidden away for your long range coms, but is hidden way too well 😊 As being in the 'coms' industry, I'm guessing you are already (quietly) aware that many of the guys on TV (AFA, Roothie, GC-Graham Cahill, Mr 4x4 and all their camera crews) have and use a AM/SSB CB for Coms offscreen (due to sponsor requests) once the UHFs go out of range (5kms away) and there is no mobile phone signal, so that they can continue talking way past the UHF range..all the way up to 70+kms away.. FYI, both myself and another 4x4er (with a GME tx840) have actually chatted with GC (4WD 24/7) on his AM/SSB CB around 88kms away while he was co-ordinating a RFDS landing in middle of no where which because of him saved a woman's life from a snakebite. Due to heavy cloud from Cyclone Seroja, the satellite phone and Epirb (non GME unit) couldn't lock onto any Satellites...so a $70 second hand GME TX840 AM/SSB CB assisted in saving the day 👍 Those wondering, the UHF stays on SCAN while using the AM/SSB CB, and when using the UHF, then the AM/SSB CB stays on scanning incase of any emergencies...👍 Note: ALL the 4x4 users on the mobile AM/SSB CBs are alot more professional and family friendly in speaking therefore little swearing, no threats, etc as like all the Yobbo UHF channels. Hope to hear you and TT on the AM/SSB CB out there in the future..👍👍🍺🍻

A great build. It's funny how some would agonise over spending 40k on that age and model but realistically people are spending way more than those figures on new 4x4's . They then flip the car in a year or two. So wasteful.

Make sure you check big end bearings every 100k!
@barbraabsalom453110 ай бұрын
I have heard this before , does the the fte need new shells every 100000k to ensure that long term over many hundreds of thousands of Kim that they don’t spin a bearing ? . It would be good to know as I am seriously considering a 100 series with this engine with nearly 400000klm on it & don’t want to buy & then be up for a new donk ( gturbo WA has full Toyota manufactured long engines for $22000 ) in short term after purchase. Any considered fact based responses appreciated .
@DieselAddiction10 ай бұрын
@@barbraabsalom4531 Hi, I have built several of these engines for higher performance needs, If the engine is built properly with high quality parts and correct tolerances it will be good for at least 4-500k. Must use ACL race bearings and ARP head studs.
@barbraabsalom453110 ай бұрын
@@DieselAddictionHi , thanks for reply , I have just purchased a hdj100 with 378000klm it has no blowby & sounds right , I appreciate your response from someone who has actually built these , one question , if the motor shits itself in the next 100000klm , should I start saving & buy a brand new Toyota manufactured long block or should I get this one rebuilt with the parts you mention which I realise are upgrades from OEM ? . I have heard these engines can be tricky to rebuild properly , so which way would you go , I would want it done right , can’t afford to do it twice . By the way do you still do rebuilds ? & if so what is your business name & location ? , thanks for any reply.

@@barbraabsalom4531 I am retired now, if you’re not going stupid with tuning and boost, a factory engine is the way to go with warranty. Don’t trust your average mechanic to build an engine these days, it’s a specialists job.
