You can also add velocity and quantize as midi effects. This way you don't need to apply them every time your midi data changes. They also have randomize functionality. Worth a look at least.

I usually do things manually in piano roll, if at all, but this has piqued my interest for sure. haven't messed with any of these features

Right! The concept presented is to ensure that it’s just not to robotic.

@@neelmodi7158 Context matters. Great musical performance is always best option if it's possible. These midi effects (or editing) are great tools for writing because they might make it faster. In loop based music (as some may call it) might be good enough to use in final version too. If you save track template for drums for example, midi effects will be stored to that template as well. In groove quantize option it's possible to use midi data as source for quantize, which might give a little bit better results in some cases.

I love the video. Dang, I was gonna make a similar video to this but this is awesome. This took me a while to figure out but now more people would know about this. Thanks again

Another winner from HSS! Cakewalk, of course, began life as a purely MIDI device -- no audio! -- and it still has the best built-in MIDI tools of any DAW I know of. When editing your MIDI clips, it's also a good idea to try out some of the included CAL routines (in Process/Run CAL). They can often serve as a fast 'batch' processor instead of altering individual notes. Thanks again, guys!

I have recorded drums via my Yamaha DTX 900 for over 10 years now using SD, AD, SSD etc. Those end up on commercial releases, and sometimes on others. Agree fully that things need to be played. However, one thing that might have been overlooked (?) is that when playing/programming strings (or those programming drums for that matter) need to consider how a live player would physically execute their movement on their particular instrument. In other words: not hitting a snare, a tom, and a ride at the same time, or constructing a chord on a guitar VST that would make no sense on a fretted board. And so on ...

Just wanted to commend you on these shorter, tighter, "just the facts" (plus some well-phased, brief personal preferences) videos. Everyone has different needs in viewing tutorials, but personally I find this style of trimmed down video easy to watch and helpful to find tips I don't already know (or may have forgotten). Well balanced for new users and non-novices.

But how do you drap the midi notes you just played across the screen so you don't have to play it for 8mins??

Thank you for your tutorials. As a newbie I can do with anything relating to music production. Is there a reference to all the controllers in Cakewalk, describing what each of them do? For insance, the Expression controller - I have no idea what it’s supposed to do. I’ve tried it a few times on midi tracks, but it doesn’t seem to make a difference. Thanks
