Went there yesterday with my friend to look for her great uncle. It's heartbreaking to see all this loss of life

Went here in 2000 .its awesome nearly 12 ,000 allied soldiers are buried .it certainly brings home the futility of war .i cried like a baby .and again for the last post ceremony in ypres at the menin gate .the memory of this will remain with me forever .

Visited Tyne Cot today on my motorbike. Very impressive place. So many 'unknown' soldiers there. It is tragic.

Intending to travel over to pay my respects. To all of them, but to a family member in particular. The sheer scale of that place is just incomprehensible. So many dead, so young, and for what?

I remember going there to see my great uncle but at the time I didn't know he was buried there. I walked straight past him and didn't know until I got back home two years later planing on going back so I can pay my respects to me properly after seven years of not being there.

No place can portray the horror of Passchendale more than a walk in this cemetery where lie the remains of 11,965 men, of whom a staggering 8,369 are unknown. 'They will not grow old, As we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them. Or the years condemn. At the going down of the sun. And in the morning. We will remember them.

Tyne Cot. Odd name? Yes and no. The German bunker now beneath the cemetery cross, was captured by the Northumberland Fusiliers, and the bunker they attacked looked like and reminded them of the little cottages found in the Tyne Valley, so its was knicknamed 'Tyne Cot'.

Around the walls of the cemetery are panels with the names of another 34000 who are still listed as missing, thats in addition to the 55000 on the menin gate, they discovered they didn't have enough space on the menin gate to record everyone.
