Glad to see someone else has problems with those pony trucks and extra weight needed! That extension is quite novel and works well for the lamp hut, the flag stones make for a nice feature too. Do like that long view down the whole station, very impressive; it’s become quite a building in its own right. Oh all those roof parts - looks great! All the best Stephen. Just had our first big fall of snow and a good work out clearing it, temp plummeted too and more on the way.
@TONYNORTHEASTERNАй бұрын
Good morning Stephen. We had a little flurry of snow but it soon went. snow down by us never seems to last. the temperature is at 1c at the moment. the squirrels have not been around for a couple of days. The extension dose look as if it was after thought during the building of this station. to be truthful it was. and that's what gives it its charm. thanks again for your kind words of support and take care in those snowy conditions. all the best Tony.

Morning Tony, that's been a busy few days good to see the 62059 running better, i think a few of us are not always on top of our servicing. Love the platform extension with the hut, when that end is finished it will look fantastic. But Tony the center canopy is fabulous, those glazing bars set it off a treat with the weathering it takes the newness off. What with one thing or another I've not been down my shed for weeks, but last night after school my mate Alfie say Paps can we go down to the trains and see. So down we went and had a good running session, a great distraction. Things with sister-in-law are settling a bit seems to be twice a week to hospital for treatment, so Anne is quite busy running around. Anyway hope your both well, looking forward to next time, take care Both Eddy and Anne xxx nor to forget Alfie.

Hi Tony, well, that was a really good solution for the oil lamp hut, the small extension really does look the part. As for the canopy you’re certainly right about a few strips of styrene making the difference! The station is coming along really well now, can’t be to far from finishing it. I’ve been back in the cabin this weekend with renewed enthusiasm and got a fair bit done, sadly Melanie had me in B&Q on Saturday looking at paint, wants the lounge re-decorated for Christmas! Ah well at least we’re getting a new telly for it too, lol! Cheers Tony, John

One small suggestion, the lamp over the stairs seems a little bright and modern white. I’d suggest a gentle orange gel covering just to get it looking in keeping with the era and the rest of the lighting. Other than that it’s all looking great.

Yes, yes, yes, that is exactly what the oil lamp hut needed. It really didn't look at home on the platform itself (even if that was what they did originally!). Scenically it looks a lot better visually balanced and tells a real story of it's own.

Hello Malcom, You know many of the comments are in total agreement in what i have done with the old oil lamp hut. which is great and that is what its all about. if it looks right then it is right. to be perfectly if there was more room on the ballast i think would the hut would have ended up there. but it at the moment it would looked ridiculous if i had kept on the ballast. like you have said its now become a story of its own. thank you for commenting and your support. stay safe for now Tony.

I do believe there is something missing from the outside of the Oil lamp hut, I thought in those days you could leave your front door unlocked without any problem, but some naughty lads have nicked the oil lamps that were filled up today ready to be hung in place tonight or has somebody forgot to unlock the shed. My Uncle Jack would have something to say to those lads. Martin. (Thailand)

Hi Tony, great stuff, I always love seeing how you create such great buildings from just card and simple bits and bobs. I was wondering about the building to go next to the lamp hut, the one you need to move the platform lamp for. Could you not just make the building slightly shorter so that it still fits between the lampost and the lamphut as they are? Just a thought, as I am guessing you don't have exact measurements for the building in which to compare your model against the real thing. Great videos Tony, always a pleasure to watch, all the very best Dave.
@TONYNORTHEASTERN2 ай бұрын
Good morning Dave. Thank you for your most interesting comment. I think looking at the photo it is double the size of the small hut that we have just made. so im looking at it to be around 60-65mm in length because i can just about see 2 windows down the side. its an interesting building. i have no idea why its there. as it does not seem to be part of the main station. so i am thinking it must have been a crews rest room for shift change over's or a small canteen. hence why i need to remove something as it will look overcrowded at that end of the station. its all ideas at the moment. as we are focusing on the surround canopy. until next time my friend. its cheerio from me. Tony.
@stretchedits2 ай бұрын
@@TONYNORTHEASTERN Assuming that building is indeed a canteen, which I agree with you makes sense, then it would look a bit odd if you shortened it as I had suggested. I guess your just going to have to move that lampost and put a manhole over the hole that is left..............Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to my comment...............I love the too and fro of comments on your channel...........and that all your comments seem to be from people who actually appreciate what your doing. All the very best, Dave.

Dear Tony, missed your vid from last week, gonna be a North Eastern binge watch! Interesting what you said on the amount of comments referring to the episode of the oil lamp hut. From the photos you showed of Tyne Dock station to this humble viewer it is obvious that both the hut and the adjacent building were not built on the platform. However, with the ample space for the island platform I was wondering how you were going to solve this footprint issue. When you placed the oil lamp hut on the ballast level it looked out of whack. Even though you built the hut to the proper scale measurements it looked too small in that particular location. Might be that the platform height of the original Tyne Dock was a little bit lower than the model. Nevertheless, I am of the humble opinion that the extension of the platform now does the placement of the hut justice and shall indeed look its part once the adjacent building is also put up. Btw love how you shared your considerations. Beautiful how you did the bitumen roof and its incorporated gutter. On the stairwell canopy; love the way you added the window struts. Definitely adds to the level of realism and detail. Don’t know if the patent rod roof window system was common in the UK, but having worked with this old system I would like to say that your representation comes very close to its true scale form. Of course this system was built with an upside down T rod with a high jamb, covered with a zinc W profile with a high point in the middle of the W, on the lower fingers of the W the glass was subsequently installed. Hence the two lower points of the W functioned as a small drip line. The glass was held in place by an upside down V profile, fixed in place with brass bolts and nuts drilled through both the zinc profiles and high end of the T jamb. With the regular placement of the glass rods and their height above the glass it most certainly represents this kind of roof window. Maybe the only point of criticism from my ‘occupational deformation’ is the fact that such rods were most often a zinc grey. But still, even with the occupational deformation the fact that it looks awesome is the most important point. Still am wondering about the lower canopy, don’t wanna convince you of anything, but if I take a good look at the sides of the station and imagine the canopies on their marks, it wouldn’t surprise me if in the end you will choose to extend the lower canopies over the entrance. Once more I suggest a glass canopy in this particular section. That may extend the lines of the station, lower the feel of the platform cover and will still allow plenty of viewing and filming opportunities whether from the trainspotter’s perspective, the cab view, from the sides and lastly from above. Cheerio
@TONYNORTHEASTERNАй бұрын
Good morning Vincent. i am glad that you have managed to catch up. you absolutely right about leaving the hut on the ballast. it would have looked a bit silly. but space has always been a problem with my layout. i wish i had thought about TT at the beginning. but hey mustn't grumble as i always seem to achieve what i set out to do. The lower surround canopy i will try and keep it simple just because of the time scale that this project seems to be taken. i agree the canopy will kind of hide all the lower details unless you see the platforms from a drivers perspective. many thanks again for commenting. stay safe kind regards Tony.

Just a question this week, Tony... Have you any suggestions for weathering card built buildings such as Metcalfe? My layout is set in the oldest industrial area in the world where everything was filthy and had been for about two hundred years - the card-built structures are just too clean!

Hello Ken, the best thing to do weathering card is to use powders, very lightly as i have done this with many of my builds. Paints seem to soak in too quickly for me. weathering powders are best. Search pigment sets. and not weathering powders as they are cheaper to buy. i hope this helps. Cheer's for now Tony.
