🎤 To watch with subtitles, please click the 'CC' button on your KZbin video player :) Good evening! And welcome to this walk around one of my favourite places in the Tyneside region - the wonderful seaside village of Tynemouth, located (rather sensibly) at the mouth of the River Tyne! In our walk, we mention that before the Norman era, Tynemouth was a bit of a Viking outpost. It's unclear as to whether Tynemouth was actually a colony of the Vikings', but some language experts have noted that the accent of locals in Tynemouth, North Shields and South Shields is notably different to that of Newcastle - suggested by some to be because of a greater Viking presence here around 1,000 years ago :)

Not far from my hometown amazing coastline in the summer...even more amazing when you see it snowing on the beach in the winter the North sea gets very rough I love watching the huge waves smashing into the two piers.

What a lovely coastal town, very unspoiled unlike so many in England. Have to admit I’ve never visited. The station is great, the Victorians really knew how to design beautiful railway stations etc unlike most of the modern cheap looking junk.

Tynemouth on a sunny day. Beautiful. Grey and overcast the last time I visited over 20+ years ago. Looking forward to seeing it all again next year. Cheers for Oz! Keep up the great work!

I'd love to get a look behind that door underneath the big memorial at the start. I wonder what junk, or treasures, are hidden away in there.
