Good evening! Thank you so much for over 6,000 subscribers - it's wonderful to have so much support on these videos both in subscriptions and lovely comments - it means a lot to me! To celebrate, we've got a walk around one of Tyneside's loveliest villages on a gorgeous sunny afternoon: Tynemouth! As for some bonus info, we briefly mentioned that before the Norman era, Tynemouth was a bit of a Viking outpost. It's unclear as to whether Tynemouth was actually a colony of the Vikings', but some language experts have noted that the accent of locals in Tynemouth, North Shields and South Shields is notably different to that of Newcastle - suggested by some to be because of a greater Viking presence here around 1,000 years ago :)

This is bliss! Just the right length, the right information, no annoying music, no talking, just the real walking experience as if you were there yourself. Great to see a UK equivalent of Prowalk Tours. Keep up the good work!

Tynemouth so beloved by me.. My uncle was awarded the MBE for bravery . He was District coastguard. Mr perceivable Thomas. I spent many an idyllic summer at their house adjacent to the famous brigade house on the tynemouth point. Many thanks for posting this.

One of my childhood playgrounds in the 70s. Ships would sometimes get caught in the shallows, in the 80s the kids tv series supergran was filmed in this town. Beautiful place with history ,worth a visit.

3:19 if you walk roughly halfway down the N Pier, you'll reach a spot where James Bolam was fishing in 1975-76 in a scene from The Likely Lads feature film. He offers Rodney Bewes's Bob some coffee but is reluctant to offer him a beer because "I've only got 6 cans"

Which seaside town would you recommend for a family visit: Scarborough, Skegness, Saltburn-by-the-Sea or Tynemouth, Tyne & Wear? Thanks
@LetsWalkUK3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! It really depends on how long you'd like to stay in any of the given places! Scarborough is a massive seaside resort with rollercoasters, shows and everything in between - plus two amazing beaches to relax on if the sun's shining when you're there :) Skegness is also a big resort with lots of rides, arcades and shops, although not quite on the scale of Scarborough. Saltburn is a gorgeous Victorian town that's a lot smaller than the two above, but can be a very calming place to stay once many of the day-trippers have gone home. Tynemouth is the smallest of the lot, but as it's within easy reach of the centre of Newcastle, you could spend multiple days there exploring not only the seaside but the city as well! For me, I'd say Tynemouth and Saltburn are the loveliest of the destinations, although Scarborough is by far and away the place to go if you're looking for a longer getaway! I really hope that helps, and that you have a wonderful family holiday when the time comes :)
