Dennis's channel Beat Diabetes led me here. I am a law enforcement deputy living in Florida. Was diagnosed with Type 2 about 3 years ago. My endocrinologist as stated in your interview with Dennis did not have the time to educate me as you have. I began to be hopeless even though coming down to 6.7 from 9.8 on my A1C in a year with on and off Steglujan. Now Im getting off, going low carb, and hitting my workouts. Thankful for you channel Doctor. Im am subscribed and look forward to more education. I needed this so bad. God bless you and Dennis!

Thank you so much, I'll be making more videos. Yes, reducing carbs is a good way to start (especially those that we call fast carbs, that change to glucose quickly). And thanks for your service as well, I have a great respect for the law enforcement officials. God bless you

@@Type-2-Diabetes thank you so much. People want to know so we can take back our lives. I am reading lots on hypothyroidism. Doctor lowered my meds because my tsh is low which really is suppressed by the meds they prescribed to help us. Then she gets scared and talks about thyroid storm when its suppressed. Its hard for gp to work with special area as endocrinology. So yes im still hypo and been low carb for 4 years. No sweets no sugars just berries and good whole no processed goods. Well, i will grab a handful of potatoe chips a about 3 times a week but thats it. Lost 30 pounds first three years. Hypo again. I know there is a connection. And my muscles and joints have started hurting again. I havent had pains for 4 years until doc lowered NDT natural dessicated thyroid. Thanks i look forward to your video about the connection. Are you going to sell supplements?
@Type-2-Diabetes5 жыл бұрын
@@wheetypeedy Look4Good If you are taking thyroid hormones like levothyroxine or NDT your TSH will go down because your pituitary doesn't need to make a lot of them anymore (The only reason it was high was to force your thyroid to make more hormones in the first place. I'm not sure if this is your case though). Now the only challenge is to fine tune the dosage. If you complications are coming back, it's a sign that you can't lower it that much. Work closely with your doctor to find the right dosage for you. And always report your diet and supplements

Just watched your informative video on the “Beat Diabetes” channel. My husband is NOT overweight but has been a Type 2 Diabetic for about 6 years. He is 122 lbs and is 5 ft. 4 inches tall. Two years ago he had a heart attack at age 63. He is a soccer coach and tries to stay fit with exercise. He has been seeing an Endroconologist here in Canada for two years and she says his case is a mystery. She has him on 300mg of Canagliflozin, 0.5mg of Repaglinide, 500mg of Metformin, 0.05 mg of Levothyroxine (Thyroid) and also Vitamin D2. Because of his heart attack in 2018, he is also on Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and Blood Thinner medication. I would like to see him slowly get weaned off some of his meds as he is eating a lot of healthy vegetables and salads. Have you dealt with any similar patients who are not overweight, but whose blood sugar scores jump up after eating? What would your recommendations be? Thank you for your channel. I hope to find some help so my husband can live without medications once again! 🙏
@Type-2-Diabetes5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. From your description, I think any decision you take should be under the care of the doctor that prescribed those medications, not anyone on KZbin, including me. However there are some questions that will help you understand his situation. 1- How is his β-cell function? 2- Does he have thyroid hormone deficiency (it looks like, and that could also influence glucose metabolism.). 3- Was he heavier before the diagnosis? 4- What is his HOMA IR (Insulin resistance). These questions can help you on your next appointment. I don't think type 2 diabetes is the main issue with him.

Type 2 - Dr. Vladmir Carvalho Thank you very much for your reply. My husband will be seeing his Endocrinologist again on Feb. 25, 2020, so these questions are very timely. He will ask her about the questions you have written as he doesn’t know the answers. I can tell you he has never been an overweight person. His highest weight was about 10 years ago, when he was 138 lbs. On the day he had his heart attack in 2018, he was 119 lbs. We really appreciate your response! Thank you for giving him some concrete questions to ask. May God bless your channel so you can reach many people. Stay safe! 🙏😊

I came here after watched your interview video with Dennis. Your explanation is clear and very informative. I have question, how to know if the pancreas still have enough beta cell to produce insulin and is that possible to recover the damaged beta cells? What will be the required treatment to recover the beta cells? Thanks for your answer doctor. God bless!
@Type-2-Diabetes5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. The simplest way to know is to do a C-peptide test during your glucose tolerance test. That will measure the amount of insulin your pancreas is still releasing at every glucose levels. There are no way to recover the damage yet (there are a lot of promising studies, but it will take long before that happens). β-cells do have the ability to expand and proliferate but that happens mostly in the beginning or in pre-diabetes. However, if your diet is right, you won't need all the beta cells, even 40% is enough for your entire life.
@febry.kurniawan5 жыл бұрын
@@Type-2-Diabetes thanks doctor for the explanation. How long the beta cells will damage after entering the diabetes state? Let say 1 year will cause how many % damage.
@Type-2-Diabetes5 жыл бұрын
@@febry.kurniawanThanks. That might vary from studies to studies, but a reduction of about 50% is expected at the time of diagnosis( depending on how you were diagnosed, of course. Example: If you went to the hospital for a random checkup you'd find it earlier than if you already had symptoms and went to confirm). After that a decrease of 5% per year is expected. This is too generalized though, because diet, exercise, medication can all influence the outcome.
