I love your photography, much better than my lazy “slap it on the helmet and go” approach. Also super stoked upper Siouxon is passable at all. Jerry D and I went in with tools and cleared out the lower part of Siouxon up to the Chinook junction on the 3rd, so the fresh cuts you saw were ours.

I used to run the siouxon three times a week when i worked in Amboy with the usfs. I'm glad to see that trees are still there after the fire, you can never tell from the news if places just get nuked or not. they must have done a lot of work on that road to siouxon from chelatchie. I also had no idea how cool the silver star area is. Great work! thanks for the video.

Glad to see the upper Siouxon is passable, if difficult. I heard they cleared the section below Chinook Falls. Where did you see the most blowdowns? Also happy to see the fires didn't destroy everything. Incidentally I was at the same spot @ Cougar Rock on Labor Day.

Jeremiah? Stoked I ran into you! Would love the gps track for the route you did. Also how was canyon creek campground? Most blowdowns were between miles 47 and 51 id say. Its tough but it goes!!!

Hey Chris, enjoyed discovering your channel yesterday thanks to Gear Junkie's shoutout. I hiked this trail (Ed's loop portion) over the summer and never thought of biking any of it, so kudos to you! As an adventure-based filmmaker and photographer, I'd love to have a behind the scenes look at what has worked well for you in terms of media gear you think works well, etc. I'm based in Portland and would be up for an adventure sometime too.

@@pnwbikepacking I only recently became aware of bikepacking and don't have any friends that I am aware of who do it. Perhaps through the adventure racing community I could ask around. Great video! I just moved to WA state and have been enjoying the MTB riding (Live up in Bellingham) I'd like to get more into this "adventure" type riding, with some camping elements. What type of bike do you use for this? Right now I have a RipmoAF but that might be a bit overkill, or could I slap some faster rolling tires on and be good to go?
@pnwbikepacking3 жыл бұрын
Thanks William! I really want to get up to Bellingham and do some MTB riding! I have two bikes, a Surly Karate Monkey with front Suspension and a RipmoAF! I agree that the RipmoAF is overkill, but I have taken it out on a few trips where I wanted a little more suspension than my Karate Monkey (Or the KM was out of commission) and it gets the job done just fine! I run an Aggressor in the rear and DHFII in the front. With the RIPMO I just have to be more cognizant of how I pack given I don't have all the frame triangle space. I'd say get out there and use what you've got for now! If you end up really liking bikepacking, I am an advocate for a hard tail with front suspension. It may be 'overbiked' for a lot of scenarios, but it also allows you to do gnarlier stuff if you want and I'd rather be overbiked than underbiked. Here are a few videos of trips I did with the RIPMOAF kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5fcZaRnfKt4aMk&ab_channel=chriswilson kzbin.info/www/bejne/iX_EqaShqM6FnNE&ab_channel=chriswilson
@williamkerr88363 жыл бұрын
@@pnwbikepacking Thank you! Sounds like I should use the Ripmo till I know I'm really into it. Right now I have an Assegai / Aggressor tire combo. Should I try to sub in something more fast rolling for big days?

I've been wondering the same thing! I don't see as many published routes up in the Olympics or in the North Cascades as there are down here, but I am sure there is plenty there, just need to spend time studying a map! One of these days I want to plan out something up north. Here are a few that I know of to help give you some inspiration. Because some of those are longer rides, I like to pick segments that look interesting, then try to come up with a loop. crosswashington.weebly.com/ bikepacking.com/routes/olympic-adventure-route/ bikepacking.com/event/gcor-2022/ Hope this helps!
